Birds of Prey Birds of Prey General Discussion and Speculation

Trailer is looking fine on first glance.
I know how it is but i still cant get used to the fact that the Birds of prey are mainly Harleys sidekicks.
I said it before, but im not a huge fan of Harley quinn and especially that DC made her into Dcs version of Deadpool...so there is that.
(Oh but i loved the scenes with harley and the hyenas, so cute)

The rest is looking good...except Cassandra.
Its the only character i probably will hate with a passion because even characterwise she seems so far off.
I can deal with different look and stuff, but this cassandra already feels like the annoying kid from Deadpool 2...who i hated with a passion.
But we will see, maybe im wrong.

I love Dinahs look...because its something unique.
Outside of Otto Schmidts version, i find Black Canary honestly a bit boring to look at...yeah shes a beautiful blonde, but that is somehow it.
So im loving this take.

Im most excited about Black Mask, i have high hopes in that character.
Because above all else, i ****ing dont get the complain about his character...since he has no character in the comics and so.
When was the last time he was interesting? The only thing he has going is pretty much being a angry gangster who has a black mask...**** this is not having a character.
So this is the thing im most looking forward, seeing Mcgregor give this empty character something that maybe breathes new life into in the comics too.

I haven't read any recent comics featuring Black Mask, but he was pretty awesome (and eccentric) in the Doug Moench/Kelley Jones run from the 1990s, and I'm looking forward to McGregor's take.

I kind of find this a strange feeling... given that there are so many Batman characters in this film... but I am struggling to have any interest in it whatsoever.

This is by no means a criticism of the film as a project. It looks like it’s going to be a very good vehicle for Robbie, and they’ve done well to keep the budget low, and avoid that hideous CGI sheen SS had.

...but it just feels completely uninteresting to me as a Batman fan. It’s a Birds Of Prey film with no Babs, Huntress, Canary and Cassie altered massively, Black Mask completely changed, and an aesthetic and tone that has very little to do with the source material.

Never thought a movie called ‘Birds Of Prey’ would ever feel so totally removed from the Batman universe.

*shrugs*

...also, I know this is unavoidable, but hearing Harley mention The Joker and Gotham... but being a completely different Joker and Gotham from the Joker and Gotham that’s in the Joker movie that’s about to come out... is really weird.

This movie looks gorgeous. One of the most beautifully shot films in the genre but its pretty much more a "Harley Quinn And Friends" than a real Birds Of Prey film. Though having "The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harely Quinn" in the title pretty much gave it away, this trailer more than reinforced that.

Looks great to me and it will probably do the job for the GA, which the trailer was made for.

really should've just been called gotham city sirens or something because the other "birds" aren't even focused on at all

Margot said she wasn't allowed to use Ivy, so i'm assuming the same for Selina. Reeves probably has the characters on lock-down since Selina is one of the main characters in The Batman

Pretty much that Harley Quinn spin-off solo there was talk of all those years ago, but now with a supporting cast.

Not quite sure whether I’m in or out with this one. Has a Suicide Squad vibe to it, and not James Gunn SS either.

That music is not a great fit for this trailer, and and not liking Harley's accent either, and they should have included some more dialogue parts for other BoP cast too, whatever little they have shown of Black Mask is interesting though. I'm a bit disappointed but since this is just the first trailer, I'm willing to forgive some issues I have .I still think this movie will be better than Suicide Squad.

It's basically a Harley Quinn movie but for some reason they couldn't call it that.

The movie’s gonna have a tough uphill battle with the fans because 1) its a spinoff of Suicide Squad, a movie most people did not like and 2) its Called Birds of Prey but focusing on Harley from Suicide Squad Squad. And 3) the actual “Birds” look nothing like their comic counterparts. The fans are gonna s*** on this thing all the way til release so it just needs to focus on being a good movie to (hopefully) prove people wrong. But im not anticipating good buzz from the fanbase in the coming months.

The comic fans may not like it but with the low budget this film has it can lean on the general audience. I mean for as much as SS is "hated" it made bank and Harley became a favorite to many outside of fandom because of it.

Oh sure I agree and totally see why theyre focusing on Harley. My only point is i’m anticipating toxic feedback from the fanbase for this movie all the way up to release.

Yeah but they flip on a dime when it comes to this stuff. If people overall like it they will all of a sudden change their tune and be excited for it.

Hey the movie could be awful, but it looks fun as heck so I am good :)

Harley Quinn is a massive icon as of late in regards to cosplay and girls in general, her abusive relationship or recent lack thereof notwithstanding so it'll probably do somewhat decent.

McGregor seems to be having a blast.

Better name would have been: Harley Quinn : Origins of Birds of Prey.

Yeah I never got that...you would think people wouldnt idolize her because of that. It would seem that MargotHarley is specifically trying to make her more of a character that could be looked up to because she walks away and starts "anew".

I am not a big Harley fan, but something about the way Margot plays her makes me like her more.

Marketing will definitely favor HQ scenes compared to other members of BoP, as she's the one who will bring in the audience but in the movie itself, I expect others to get a reasonable amount of screen-time. The trailer may remain Harley focused though.

So, looking at the movie releases a week before and some weeks after BoP release week, how will the competition affect this movie ?

I hope this is rated R. When she said “Harley frickin’ Quinn!” That came off as a forced PG-13 line...

Looks pretty much what I expected this to look like.

Its a Harley Quinn movie featuring a bunch of other characters. Harley herself looks good (I liked Robbie in SS) and everybody else look completely uninteresting.

Seems a bit like this is called "Birds of Prey because David Ayer was devoloping "Gotham City Sirens " at the same time and they just needed another Comic Book name for this movie.

I like HQ, its just a shame that everybody else look lame.

David Ayer is getting Executive Producer credit for this movie.

According to the test screenings, it's super R rated mainly because of the violence & swearing. Wouldn't be surprised if she recorded the line for the trailer

There were a lot of incidents in the trailer where they substituted a lot of lines to fit a PG-13 trailer.

Will probably skip this based on that trailer. Trailer is fine, I guess but was never into the aesthetics of Suicide Squad and this seems to be the same.

This version of Harley just seems to be annoying.
