Birds of Prey Birds of Prey General Discussion and Speculation

Honestly right now it seems they:

A) are taking there time developing these hero movies and giving the director time to get the story right.
B) not announcing movies before there truly ready to go and end up looking like fools.

You not wanting to watch it is your right. You being happy it is undeperforming (not really flopping btw) at the box office is petty and comes off as you having a personal agenda in this.

And I don't there's anything more shady in Warner Bros. than any other major movie studio. At least they don't extort theaters into having to give up a certain amount of screens or else they'll be taking away the big money makers from them.........

I honestly don't understand Rooting for a movie to fail I never saw. Now granted if I saw the movie and it rightfully stunk then that changes the conversation but at-least see it and judge it fairly. I honestly had more fun with this movie then something like captain marvel where I felt connections to the women on screen. One of my friends bashed me for seeing this over the weekend and I responded “how can I see captain marvel and black widow opening weekend and not give this a fair shake?”

i highly doubt WB is trying to sell off one of there biggest IP’s just to make a quick buck.

It's not "rooting" for a movie to fail, as much as anticipating that it's not just me that felt the way I did about what WB presented as a Birds of Prey film. The visuals and lack of depicting the characters properly stood out like mad from the get go, and the the marketing seemed really off for what should be a DC female based Comic Book film. It's not my fault for seeing it as a mess.

And for those who don't understand about Vulture Capitalists and Warner Brothers being infested with them, they have Billions of multiple IP/ Film/ TV/ Music these folks want to sell off, not just DC characters. Failure is Success to these creeps.

Then you gotta chose your words better, because "happy it flopped" is rooting for something to fail and derives from the overly popular trend in web schadenfreude, even though no one admits to it and pretends/fakes to be analytical in his/her statements.

The blind love and hate when discussing these kinds of movies is obvious and has kind of ruined discussing comic book adaptations online because we're not even really looking at the content anymore, but playing at some kind of pretend-movie business insider game as an excuse to covertly but freely express schadenfreude.

The Dunning-Kruger effect-y entitlement and fake expertise (as if you could handle even one single day of being an exec or filmmaker) has reached mind-blowing levels.

We should relearn how to judge these movies as audience members and have interesting discussions about these movies and what effect they had on US ad AUDIENCE MEMBERS. Which can be positive or negative, but at least should come from a honest and sincere place and position.

The "they should do this, they should do that, because business POV, IP, IP, IP, it would make more sense" is grating coming from a bunch o' nerds on the Internet (and that goes for so called movie website "journalists" and bloggers, as well).

What most are is basically vulgar "comic book/fantasy/sci-fi movie hooligans." Nothing more, nothing less. And the levels of bullying people for having different opinions during the Snyder era (which I have varying opinions on based on each movie, but that's not really the point) was the epitome of that.

And I still come here because sometimes there is an interesting conversation to be had about the art of film and comics and TV and animation and storytelling. But I think I've kinda outgrown the surrounding ambience of fake nerd expertise on how to handle Hollywood and should probably be around much less.

I prefer that Harley earned her qualifications legitimately because it makes her a more impressive villain. Being an intelligent psychiatrist, able to analyse people and predict their patterns and target their psychological weaknesses makes her a greater threat.
Imagine if it turned out Scarecrow, Mr Freeze or Hugo Strange didn't earn their qualifications but just seduced their professors. Reducing their accomplishments reduces their power.

Most of the moves WB make are in partnership with other production houses like Village Roadshow, Legendary Entertainment, Tencent Pictures, Wanda Media, they don't do anything creative, they just provide the financing. I don't know if they qualify as "Vulture Capitalists".

Recent success "Joker" was partly financed by Village Roadshow Pictures (25%) and BRON Studios (25%) and WB (50%), even though the budget was only $62.5M.

These other "production studios" are really just movie financing companies, they are not stake holders in Intellectual property (which basically means, they don't possess the characters rights or the movie making rights to Joker or any other DC characters).

Edit: So, there's no question of selling off rights to these "Vulture Capitalists". (And I doubt they are Vulture Capitalists in first place.)

"Vulture Capitalists" sounds so '80s.
They were responsible for fall of Sears, Toys 'R' Us. Any company that is debt ridden and making losses and has taken bad loans can be sold off cheaply and acquired by VCs.

I doubt that WB is in such position, maybe some other studios who are pumping series of flop movies like Paramount.

Margot was doing Interviews and movie promotion for BoP then she was at Oscars as she was nominated (Actress in a Supporting Role for Bombshell) and just the next day she's shooting for James Gunn's TSS, where Harley has a major role in the movie, no break for Robbie.

She is going to be one of the top Hollywood actresses at this rate. She's got more range than I expected and not many weak spots I can think of.

The only downside I can see at the moment - and I don't know if anyone else feels this - is over-exposure. I'm starting to get that 'Her, again?' feeling when I hear her name - and I like her! Maybe it's just me. I get the same thing with Dwayne Johnson.

I hope people aren’t feeling that. I don’t know how many films she is appearing in per year but if it’s a couple of high profile ones every year hopefully that wouldn’t be too much.

Margot is already at the top, if you ask me. The girl just doesn't stop and always getting nominated.
I guess I mean more of a long term great, with a record over a couple of decades or more filled with top performances, awards and iconic roles. She’s on that path now and I hope she stays there for the long haul. I’m becoming a big fan and have so far loved her in every film I’ve seen her in.

Agreed on all points!

for sure and people questioning her comedy check out that movie she did with Tina Fey yes not that successful but she kept up comedy wise with Fey

I thought this movie was... alright. It's not a mindblowing movie and I wouldn't consider it to be a "must watch" movie. However its fun if you don't take it seriously even though you could argue that its a good Harley Quinn movie but a terrible Birds of Prey movie. Margot Robbie's performance as Harley was easily the highlight of this movie and I thought Huntress was cool.
