DC Films Black Canary film in development at HBO Max

I liked her in the role she just wasn’t giving much to do but I’m excited to see where she goes. Since Journee is biracial who do you guys think they should cast as the original Canary?

I would love to see how their story/relationship plays out. Also this would be a chance to final get an actual portrayal of Green Arrow!

Yes to Wildcat! Maybe he can be like a surrogate father that took her in, raised/trained her after mother died.

It could go either way, but judging from what Montoya was saying in BoP about the original Canary and her protecting the hood in Gotham, she might be black. But who knows.

I could see Regina King or Charlize Theron.

No way. Just make him Green Arrow. I don’t like the mindset of ‘save it for the sequel’? They have made that mistake too many damn times now. A sequel is never guaranteed, especially with DC.

Wildcat and Green Arrow should be in this 100%.

If he doesn't play a large role then no need for him to be GA in a scene.

In hindsight, it would’ve been cool if Jonathan Majors was in this as Ollie. The fanboys would slit their wrist, but alas.

Ehh. . . I would argue that Oliver Queen is one of those characters where "privileged white dude" is an important aspect. Not as much as Bruce Wayne, but still, "this ultra leftist radical superhero who imitates Robin Hood is also an ultra rich guy" contributes a lot, both in the "turning away from his upbringing to do what is right" sense and the "the guy is kind of obnoxious with implicit hypocrisy" sense. He should be both a redemption story *and* that privileged dude everyone knows who won't shut up about how virtuous he is, simultaneously.

Needless to say, this only applies to Oliver Queen; the various other Arrows are not so restrictive.

Logan Marshall-Green is forever my ideal Ollie.

I have to say that BoP really turned me off on this version of the character. She turned a blind eye and waited outside while Black Mask tortured and murdered a family. Having her drive off after hearing the screams of a teenage girl having her face cut off made this Dinah irredeemable.

It’s a shame because I absolutely love the character.

If this movie has Green Arrow, Richard Dragon, Lady Shiva, and Bronze Tiger then I am 10000% on board. Get Manganiello in the sequel for a Deathstroke vs GA and BC story maybe

Eh, whiteness doesn't really matter, like that. I've leaned to Oscar Isacc for it, for this version.

I've never bought into this idea that Bruce Wayne needs to be white for his character to make sense, and for Oliver Queen, it's even less neccessary.

In the 90s Kiefer Sutherland or Denis Leary would’ve been perfect for Green Arrow.

In the late 00s, Green Arrow: Escape From Supermax was in development, with Matt Damon rumored to star. I think this ended up being proven true, but obviously it never came to fruition. That would’ve been cool especially if he met Batfleck.

Charlie Hunnam (because he had a goatee on SOA) is brought up a lot for the role. He’d be fine, but I’m not sure he has the charisma to pull off Ollie Queen.

Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen was fantastic, but it was more of a Batman type performance, and not what I wanted to see necessarily. He didn’t have the swagger that the character has in something like JLU. I’m able to picture Bradley Cooper in the role pretty easily, he would be my top pick.

I’m also kinda feeling Dev Patel for this

Brad Pitt would have been amazing but he’s aged out.

IMO a Black Canary movie without GA shouldn’t be done.

I wouldn't trip about her portrayal in BOP. New age DC movies rarely if ever acknowledge or continue stuff from previous movies

Fairly certain Misha will put her own new spin on the character

BoP is really a fairly terrible *Birds of Prey* movie. Which makes sense, since its only maybe about 1/3rd of a BoP movie, as opposed to a Harley Quinn solo movie or a Gotham City Sirens movie.

( But then, they were never going to make a good Birds of Prey movie, given the efforts to erase Oracle from existence. . . )

I must have been one of the few people who wasn't blown away by Black Canary. Maybe because I thought BOP was mediocre and as BaBilly said, didn't like her characterization. I'm waiting on DC to not include Green Arrow in this because they are saving it for some other IP.

it's real shame. there are multiple Batgirls but there is only one Oracle. why erase her?

Because DC Comics hates Chuck Dixon in particular, and everything post-Crisis in general, I would say. When the execs who want to avoid paying royalties, and the creatives who want to revert everything to their bizarro grimdark version of the silver age, agree on something? It tends to happen.

The whole point was that she lost her way just like how Peter lost his in Spiderman 2
