I always thought of him as a very unbalanced, sarcastic twerp. To him it all boils down to sticking it to Mummy and Daddy.
It's all some childish rebellion, they made him be friends with Bruce so he wants to destroy him.
But psychobabble aside, he is truly nuts. I want to see his manequin wife. That could be incredibly twisted, seeing him talk to the dummy like it was actually alive.

That's more how I would see the Riddler if he were in the movie, sans the mannequin wife. A twerpy Riddler would be a nice contrast to a brutish BM. Like I said in another thread, it seems like Nolan's Batman always has at least one villain who can match him physically, like Ras in BB and the Joker (at the end anyway) in TDK. I would like BM to be the villain to take Batman on one-on-one.

Deathstroke would be a nice alternative. Riddler challenges Batman's mental side (so we really see Batman kick up the detective work in the next film), and either Black Mask, Deathstroke, or Bane can take Batman on physically.

Your post reminds me of Deadshot. Surely he could take on Batman physically too.

Deadshot would definitely work too, although I think too many fanboys would argue, "He was already in a film," as he was in Gotham Knight I believe. As far as I'm concerned, Gotham Knight isn't canon.

I don't think so either, and it's not like the public would even notice the difference.

Black Mask is the balls.

I like some of Mrs.JimGordon's ideas for the fan fic. I think a lot of those elements would work well in the next Bat-film, but sound like an incredible storyline for a graphic novel.

Awwww, thanks so so much - I appreciate it, and I'm so glad you liked!!! :woot:

Ah, but there's a lot of differences. Namely, that Black Mask gets his rocks off to torture, he's actually taken seriously and he has a pre-existing relationship with Batman.
But yes, Riddler is very twerpy (Is that even a word?) and I want him to be like that too. At least, be like that when he's being himself. He's a conman and an actor, to the people of Gotham he should appear different to his usual, super-smarmy self.

Hmmm, I think I'd like to see Hugo Weaving in this role...

What's that guy's name from Memento? He should be Black Mask.

Guy Pearce? I hope he'd be able to bulk up a bit. My ideal BM is more on the big side and Pearce is very thin.

Na Guy Pearce would be PERFECT for Riddler.

For Black Mask? Josh Brolin or Viggo Mortenson. I like Viggo cause I could just imagine those piercing eyes of his staring out from under that mask and being really creepy.

I always felt Costas Mandylor would've been a great Black Mask, he's very good at playing cold and unemotive villains, but he would probably be too old for Roman. I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt (if he isn't the new Joker in the current series) would also be good, and if Garrett Hedlund isn't casted as Captain America, he'd make a good Black Mask too, he played a nasty villain in Death Sentence.

When I imagine Back Mask, he's someone older, tall, physically imposing, and deep-voiced. I was kind of thinking I wanted Brolin for the role but I'm not positive. Has he ever played a villain before?

W. :cwink:

There have been countless threads saying Black Mask should be in Batman 3.
I'm not the director of the film, but I have a pretty good feeling that Black Mask will not be in Batman 3.

First of all, Batman Begins covered Bruce's childhood. If Nolan ever had any intention of including Black Mask as a villain, we would've seen him as a kid in Begins, since Roman Sionis (Black Mask) is a childhood friend of Bruce.

To go back to Bruce's childhood again and say "oh yeah, we forgot to tell you in the first movie, Bruce had a rich childhood friend that we never showed you before." would feel like Spider-Man 3 when they revisited Uncle Ben's death and said "Oh yeah, we forgot to tell you, Sandman was there too!"

Also, the sequel to TDK is going to need to focus on the events of TDK. Way too much chaos occurred becuase of the Joker, and Batman is now on the run. I don't see Black Mask fitting into a story which should focus on TDK's aftermath.

IMHO, Harley Quinn or (I hate to say it) The Riddler, are the only logical choices for villains in the next Bat-film, since Harley was a psychatrist that has broken Joker out of jail in the comics, and the Riddler could try to solve the mystery of who is Batman after Batman became wanted for murder.

So? We got a Joker with no backstory, no chemical bath, etc. etc. etc. and people are hailing it as the best thing ever.

You my friend are thinking in terms of limitations - Black Mask is a childhood friend, since we saw Wayne's childhood in BB it precludes the introduction of Black Mask now. Chris Nolan doesn't think like that, the Batpod is a perfect example of his out of the box thinking.

The more relevant question to ask is can you construct an engaging story that includes Black Mask as a villain. Maybe, maybe not. But its not a "never" type answer.

Because they couldnt possibly just not make Black Mask a child hood friend. Dont you have any imagination cjmcray?

While I agree Black Mask probably won't be in the next film, I think there are plausible workarounds for all of the issues you raised.

I think (once again, usually ends in me getting flamed) that Rachel's funeral might be in the next film. Old childhood friends like Roman Sionis or even Tommy Elliot could be introduced there.

Then again, Sionis might not even be interpreted as a childhood friend of Bruce. Nolan's used a lot of creative license behind his characters. He could just simply be another mob boss, one that hides behind a mask due to some kind of scar or to instill fear or whatnot.

Nolan didn"t show all Bruce"s childhood so I don"t think that is the main reason for not include Black Mask, I just think Nolan will stay with the most classic villains.

Nolan has said he's interested in doing villains that haven't been done on the silver screen before. Then again, we don't know if he's just pulling our leg or not.

That's true. But if Nolan DID want to include Black Mask, we would've seen Roman in Begins. even if it was just a small scene of Roman at the funeral for Bruce's parents.

The fact that he wasn't there, proves Nolan doesn't want to use him, and by revisting Bruce's childhood in Batman 3, a story that's done and over with, will just make him feel shoe-horned into the movie.

I suppose they could use creative license to not have Roman a childhood friend, but, correct me if i'm wrong, isn't that a big part of his character? (I've never read a Batman comic, my knowledge of Black Mask comes from his Wikipedia page.) The Joker skin-bleaching wasn't really essential to Joker's character. all Joker needs to be is crazy, homocidal, have a white face and green hair. How his face became that way isn't important.

Kinda. But then again, Falcone and Maroni weren't exactly developed characters. Sionis could more or less be one of those stock mafia dons that end up just being pawns in the bag bad's plan.
