The purpose of the 4 year lifespan was to prevent the replicants from developing emotions and eventually get mad at the fact that they're are essentially slaves. I doubt Tyrell would see a need to put the 4 year life span in the animal replicants like the snakes and owls. So I wonder if those animals can die of old age.

Not sure if they age, very possible since it seems to be genetically created like the sanke. The earlier Replicants did not have incept dates. The incept date was created to like you said to stop that from happening when it became a problem. With Rachel (possibly Nexus 7) they had memories added to help pad it from the other side as well. To make them feel like they have lived a longer life then they actually did.

So is Gosling a replicant or a real human bean?

He is a real human being and a real hero.

Those gorgeous shots though! It's criminal Roger Deakins doesn't have an Oscar.

Please! Please! Please! Don't **** this one up!!!!!

Looks promising though!

If nothing else, this movie will be visually resplendent. Villenueve knows how to frame a shot and Deakins is, well, Deakins. I've never been jazzed about the prospect of this, but they've gotten about the best team to do it that I can imagine.

Spectre (which I thought was perfectly ok) was done by Hoyte van Hoytema, Nolan's new beau.

Perfectly okay is a horror show after how good Skyfall looked. Same situation with QoS following the very pretty Casino Royale.

He did not do the very ugly SPECTRE. He did do the absolutely gorgeous Skyfall.

That was really shocking given how awesome Van Hoyema usually is. Deakins on top form as usual here though.

This teaser killed me. Blade Runner is my favourite film of all time and I've been very wary of this project as a result. But God Damn did this hit all the right notes for me. And given how Villeneuve hit it out of the park with Arrival, there is a tiny chance this could be really special.

Same. So far absolutely brilliant.

Also, yellow smoke/fog reminded me of the original novel by P.K. Dick.

Ya, though only Deakins could top Deakins. They need to reacquire him at some point.

It's because Hoytema lensed a cerebral, psychological thriller, but Mendes shot a traditional Bond movie.

It should've looked more like You Only Live Twice, with all of its color, splendor and scope. Not Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Sorry freudian slip. I mean Skyfall. Probably one of the better shot movies of the last few years.
Figured.

And yeah, I agree it is one of the best in recent memory. Skyfall made me believe in digital filmmaking, it looks so good.

Considering what Deakins said, I doubt it would happen, but I would welcome his return so much.

I thought Deakins topped Skyfall with Sicario. The dusk and evening scenes.....are like nothing I've ever seen. Usually night scenes in Hollywood are very fake looking because you can always feel the artificial light source. Deakins shot the night scenes only with the headlights of cars. It was beautiful and realistic.

There is no doubt that Deakins is the best DP working today. Just look at his CV. He should have 5 Oscars by now.
