This is how you honor the original while doing something new.

Nah. To be frank, the trailer follows to a t of the of beats from the original. Hopefully it's just how the trailer was cut.

Let's wait till we see the actual film. Even if it doesn't rehash the original, it's not a given this film will "honor" anything.

Yeah, this is a bizarre time to complain about JJ. They even brought in Mackenzie Davis to do her best Daryl Hannah. :funny:

Or the brunette with the bob. Or the building with the replicants. (not sure if it's the same Tyrell building or not).

Again, not complaining

Deakins + Villeneuve + Blade Runner = MAGIC.

I am definitely not complaining. It looks brilliant imo.

But it is hilarious to see a few people try to do a bit of mental gymnastics after they claimed this would be so different in comparison to TFA.

Yeah, there seems to be a genuine attempt to do something new. It isn't defined by how great and classic of how Blade Runner is or selling you on Blade Runner, it's telling a new story that happens to take place in the same world. By the looks of this, you don't even have to see the first film to get into it. It's doing its own thing. At least I hope it's not intrinsically linked to it. It's been so long since the last film, you have more freedom to put your own stamp on it. You kind of have to anyway. The original is a cult film. You can't expect a mainstream audience to all have seen the original film.

This doesn't look like another hunting down of replicants storyline or made by a filmmaker to pander to nostalgic adults by trying to recreate the "feeling of what it was like to see the original Blade Runner when you were a kid." *throws up in mouth*

Blade Runner is an R rated sci fi noir that's bizarre and not for everyone. It flopped for a reason. Don't try to make it into this nostalgia trip because there wasn't even nostalgia attached to it to begin with. You're not set with huge expectations or obligations like something like a SW movie.

So original, they found old Ha, I mean Deckard in the same place TFA left him. :cwink:

Are you seriously trying to say this? Because I know you love to troll, but this and the Farcai thing in the same day? That's a lot.

DJ lovessssss to get his Star Wars trolling in multiple times a day, like clockwork.

Man, I hope hope hope Johan Johansson is going full on 80's synth with the score like in the first part of the trailer.

Yes, one of my favorite things about this trailer was the Vangelis theme in the 1st half. I hope that remains the sound of the movie itself.

Seeing the trailer I can honestly say that the sequel is looking good...the CGI, the special effects and the visual futuristic setting that of which made the original a classic has the same visual vision

The tone and the mood is definitely there

But I really just hope that this long awaited sequel lives up to the original even though I feel like this sequel is unnecessary because the original was such a classic

Since, this is the Blade Runner thread, and not the “people like the new Star Wars movies and it makes me mad” thread, I’d dial this kind of talk back and keep this particular line of thinking to yourself. It’s off-topic, and as we’ve reminded you before, it’s really obnoxious.

So it makes me wonder if Deckard will die in this too similar to Han Solo dying in Episode 7

At least judging from the trailer Jared Leto his character is definitely a Replicant so it makes me wonder if Ryan's character is a Replicant too but that he doesn't know that he is one

I don't think he's a Replicant. But maybe he had certain body parts replaced with ones that are usually installed in Replicants.

I do agree with Doctor Jones' point about how they should take this opportunity to make this new BR more...accessible. And when I say accessible I do not mean turn it into a generic mainstream blockbuster film, I simply mean make it more tangible and accessible for people to get into. This could be a really cool, dark sci-fi noir, a melding of Arrival and Prisoners, if you will. That's why I think Villaneuve is perfect for this, he knows how to make deliberately paced films but you're never bored throughout his movies because he's so good at building tension and building characters.

And that’s fine. I agree with that too. But that point can be made without being disrespectful or obnoxious to fans of anything else. Doctor Jones has had some trouble making that distinction recently.
