Are they ever going to hire an Asian in the cast. I keep banging this drum, and only because even in the first film, LA was overtaken by the Japanese. You'd think you'll see someone significant (soon) of Asian descent due to that.

Leto's casting has rounded out the main cast and he was last to be offered a role. So my guess is maybe as side role?

Fanboyism and its one strike and you're out mentality.....boy.

Perhaps asians became economically dominant and left for the space colonies. They said the climate on earth has got even worst since the first film. Even in the first film most people that could leave got the hell off earth.

They are filming in Budapest so I don't expect a big Asian contingent on the movie. A lot less minorities in Hungary than los Angeles.

I think they're also shooting in Beijing. Not sure on that but that was an early report that they would be going there for a few weeks.

Now you're thinking of 'in world'; i'm talking about the Hollywood industry. It's still LA which has always been diverse, so even if the Asians left, you would still have the ones who are 1st and 2nd generation Americans.

You'd think that at one least one Asian actor will play a huge role. The cast itself is already diverse, but it would help. The closest Asian actor the film has is Dave Bautista (he's half Fillipino).

yup sam raimi made 1 bad comic book film and the first 2 didn't happen apparently :cwink:

To be fair, he also made Oz: The Lame and Pitiful.

But still, I agree... the first two Spider-Man films are classics and I think he might have been able to fix the series if they had let him do Spidey 4.

Told you guy's. This was always happening.

Jóhann Jóhannsson Reteams With Denis Villeneuve, Will Score ‘Blade Runner 2’ http://dlvr.it/M6538n

Jóhann Jóhannsson revealed on Icelandic radio station RUV that he’ll be scoring “Blade Runner 2.” The composer previously provided great, chilling scores for Villeneuve’s “Prisoners” and “Sicario,” and is tuning up the director’s intriguing sci-fi “Arrival” which is coming this fall. Jóhannsson is a two-time Oscar nominee (getting nods for “The Theory Of Everything” and “Sicario”), and is one of the best in the game right now, so we’re glad to see his fruitful relationship with Villeneuve continue.

I'm somehow relieved Vangelis isn't doing the score.

Vangelis's score is one of my favorite things about the first film. Gives the film a nice futuristic noir feel. A more generic average score just wont be the same.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Vangelis's score on the original. I want the sequel to be great. But I want it to be it's own thing.

Don't worry, the score for this film is in VERY good hands. The last thing it will be is generic. The thing that has the most excited about this project is that it IS trying to be its own thing. Vangelis's score for the original film is one of my all time favorites. Having said that, I think bringing on someone new was the right call.

Check out some of Johannsson's solo albums on YouTube. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what the guy is capable of. One of my best friends, who is the biggest Blade Runner fanatic I know, was pretty angry about this news this morning. He was damn near threatening to boycott the movie over Vangelis not returning. I sent him to YouTube to listen to what Johannsson can do(both in his film work and solo projects) and even he now thinks this was the right call. His exact quote was, "This guy is perfect for the film!"

Vangelis' Bladerunner score is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. I know it sounds like hyperbole but thats imo. I'm actually not a fan of the original BR, I watched it twice (with and without the Harrison Ford narration) and I just found it too slow and ponderous and Ford's acting just too wooden for my tastes. But I can see why its a cult classic, the visuals are amazing and Vangelis' score is incredibly atmospheric. Even though I don't like the movie, i listen to the soundtrack almost obsessively.

That said, I'm very excited at this new project. Villeneuve has an great track record so far (although I haven't seen Enemy, I hear its polarizing) and Johannsson is an incredible composer. His score for Sicario was so dark, moody and atmospheric. It added volumes to the tension in the movie. I think he will absolutely nail Bladerunner. I'm just gonna go ahead and say it, I think Villeneuve and Johannsson could possibly make this better than the original.

How about a decade of increasingly lame output, a crappy band and a penchance for sexual harassment?

http://etcanada.com/news/164357/dir...ls-making-blade-runner-sequel-an-insane-task/

Denis Villeneuve is keeping realistic about his expectations of success when it comes to tackling a sequel to Ridley Scott’s famed 1982 thriller, “Blade Runner”.
While speaking at the 2016 Venice Film Festival, the Quebec-born filmmaker, who is currently promoting his upcoming sci-fi film “Arrival”, asserts that creating a follow-up to the original film has been “an insane task”.

Villeneuve says, “The idea to make a sequel to the original ‘Blade Runner’, I thought was fantastic and a mad idea. When you have such a masterpiece to try to make [a sequel], it’s very difficult and an insane task. And we are in that insanity right now.”

While the “Sicario” director may have slim hopes of success, he couldn’t be happier working with his crew and cast. He says, “We are embracing all the risk and the chance of success is very narrow, and that is so exciting. And we have a fantastic crew and I’m very inspired specifically by my actors right now [who] are doing a great, great, great, great job.”

At least we all can agree the chance of success is very narrow. Movies like Blade Runner don't become what they are entirely by design. But we all can hope for a decent movie, at least.
