Denis Villeneuve is keeping realistic about his expectations of success when it comes to tackling a sequel to Ridley Scotts famed 1982 thriller, Blade Runner.
While speaking at the 2016 Venice Film Festival, the Quebec-born filmmaker, who is currently promoting his upcoming sci-fi film Arrival, asserts that creating a follow-up to the original film has been an insane task.
Villeneuve says, The idea to make a sequel to the original Blade Runner, I thought was fantastic and a mad idea. When you have such a masterpiece to try to make [a sequel], its very difficult and an insane task. And we are in that insanity right now.
While the Sicario director may have slim hopes of success, he couldnt be happier working with his crew and cast. He says, We are embracing all the risk and the chance of success is very narrow, and that is so exciting. And we have a fantastic crew and Im very inspired specifically by my actors right now [who] are doing a great, great, great, great job.
