Blade Runner Remake

Like what? Lost In Space? Independence Day? Men In Black?

gee you're clever! because, as we all know, a person is only allowed to like one kind of film around here. :whatever:

so what if i didn't like blade runner?

and for the record, i did like all three of the movies you posted up there.

To me if they wanted to explore that world that was created in Blade Runner then doing it with new stories or even from the perspective of Deckard starting out would be a better idea than remaking an already excellent film

Then a sequel would be much better in this case.

It certainly takes a few watches and when i was a kid i admit i couldn't get into it,it seemed so staid after Star Wars

It really seems to have went down well,i wonder if it could get oscar aknowledgement

You mean attendance for Children Of Men  .
Hmm..well it's not something that you would watch over and over like say Night Of The Museum. It's heavy stuff. Then again i'll be happy it it has staying power and keeps in the top 10 , like Illusionist did :yay:

Well i think there are a couple of questions that leave the audience pondering but it's a sort of 2 option deal and they tried to solve that with one of the cuts i thought
But it's not something definitive right. That's my point. Blade Runner is the type of movie where the audienc is asked to asnwer the question for themselves as there are many interpretations of the story and each person have a different view of the movie.

If they made it from the book i think it would be a whole other movie that would use the book title as it's name b/c from what i know all the Phillip K Dick adaptions bare little resemblance to their movie counterparts
True , although i do seem to remember that Dick was quite happy with the early treatment of Blade Runner. He did die before the movie was released ( i think)

As for the movies not resembling the books , well it's the stories are a "thinking man's SCI-FI ". not "spectacle SCI-FI".
Even Minority report which did keep some of the basic elements , still was more spectacle SCI-FI.
I haven't seen A Scanner Darkly but that does seem to be the only Philip K. Dick movie that's a faithful translation.

I always wondered what it would be like if they remade "Blade Runner", the 1980's sci-fi movie starring Harrison Ford. What you like to see a remake? Do you think it would be successful at the box office?
Do we really need a remake of "Blade Runner", itself an adaptation of the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

Heh, then...yeah, he WAS really clever, to throw those three out. Better edit out those rolly eyes, lol.

Blade runner can NOT be remade, and nobody can replace Harrison Ford EVER.

I was just meaning the the response to Children of men has been so strong i wonderi if as a sci fi movie it could get an Oscar nom:yay:

True it isn't definitive in the "is Deckard a android of not" foccs but other than it is to me,the only other difference in the two versions is one doesn't have them driving off into the sunset i believe

Yeah they seem to mainly keep the basic central idea and then build the spectacle sci fi around it,im yet to see A Scanner Darkly but i heard it was faithful and yet alienated casual movie fans

It could've gotten a nom. IMO. It's not SCi-Fi in the traditional sense , but more like V for Vendetta , only without a knife wielding hero :oldrazz: .
But i think ( although i'm not sure...) that it was too late to quality for the Oscars.
Oh wait , i was right :

Neither are any of the films that bowed in limited release last month to qualify for Oscars and which will be expanding this weekend and next. They include Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men, the critically acclaimed futuristic drama, which has performed impressively thus far; Perfume: The Story of a Murderer; The Painted Veil; and Miss Potter.

Too bad. It'll be forgotten by the time when the oscars for the '07 are handed out.

Ideally if it were getting nom. and/or wins for me it would be in the follwinf categories :
1 Best Film
2 Best director
3 best Adapted Screenplay
4 Best Actor ( Owen)
5 best Supporting actor ( Michael Caine, chiwitel)
6 Best Supporting Actress ( julianne moore , the black chick who's pregnant with the child)
7 Best Art Direction
8 Best Editing
9 Best Cinematography

Doesn't surprise me about A Scanner Darkly since it's more of a cult movie a la Fear And Loathing

i'm not editing anything... that guy assumes just because i didn't like blade runner, that i must love (what he considers to be) bad sci fi movies? that's stupid. i like all kinds of movies from every genre. i just simply didn't like blade runner. i acknowledge that is was a visually stunning film, well acted, etc, etc... but it was boring for me. get over it.

i totally agree...it's a good movie in the sense that it was masterfully done and at the time of it's release i'm sure it was awesome...but i didn't see it at the time of release. i saw it in 2002, after 20 years of movie evolution. Blade Runner might've been great for it's time, but compared to today's movies...it's ridiculously slow.

Teacher says that every time a classic movie is remade a kitty dies. (Or did she say brain cells?)

Does anyone think that in 2019, L.A. will actually look like it did in Blade Runner?

um...don't think so...have you seen Escape from New York? not exactly an accurate depiction of 1997 NYC is it? hehe

You are right. By the mid-1900's idea of the 21st century we should have flying cars by now, and living on mars.

Depends where you live in New York:oldrazz::cwink:

I definitely find that it's a movie that ppl either love or hate, there isn't much in between
The world that was created is a huge part of why i love it and i never found it slow to be honest

Yeah, I think 2100 won't look much different than it does now.

I didn't really care about the story as much as I just loved the meticulously created world.

I remember when I was a kid thinking it was so cool that a stripper would perform with a robotic snake.
And, I moved to Seattle based almost solely on the frequency of dark, foggy, rainy, overcast weather, so...
