WB might have to share some of that pie.

A select group of international indie distributors might still get a crack at bidding on Blade Runner, the biggest, and most hotly-anticipated of what has become a tsunami of reboots and sequels to 1980s action franchises.
Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) is helming Alcon Entertainment's sequel to Ridley Scott's groundbreaking sci-fi film, with Ryan Gosling to star and Harrison Ford returning in a reprise of his role as replicant-hunting cop Rick Deckard from the 1982 original. The film is set to begin shooting next year.
Most thought Warner Bros., which is releasing the film stateside and has a first on international rights, would take Blade Runner off the market and do the the film's entire global day-and-date release in house.

But Alcon co-CEO Andrew Kosove told THR he is still open to other models, including going with a different studio for international release (he said he has offers from two, unnamed majors) or a “hybrid” model in which a studio takes the bulk of the world but “two or three territories are carved out for some of our loyal international partners.”

Kosove said a decision on Blade Runner will be made “after AFM but before Berlin

That offers some hope for buyers hungry for a tentpole action film – of the kind that traditionally have driven business at AFM but that have been particularly scarce this year. If the opportunity on Blade Runner presents itself, expect regional mini-majors like Germany's Concorde, China's DMG Entertainment or France's SND Films – all of whom partnered with Alcon for its upcoming Point Break reboot – to be first in line.

Alcon's approach with Blade Runner – combining sexy young thing Gosling with grizzled global draw Ford - seems designed for maximum international impact, whether it eventually lands worldwide with a studio or with (grateful) independent distributors.
In other news Amy Adams and Ryan Gosling were pictured having a meal together. Now I maybe putting 2+2 and getting 5 but it might be for Blade Runner. I did say previously Denis Villeneuve likes to recycle cast/crew and he and Amy did work together over the summer.:sly:http://yeahceleb.com/ryan-gosling-amy-adams-seen-on-friend-date-at-mastros-steakhouse/

Do Amydroids dream of Blade Runner sequels?

I wonder if they will bring back Edward James Olmos's Gaff

Only thing that matters is wether or not Edward James Olmos will be in it.

Eddie Olmos freakin better be in it.

The sharpest dressed man in a dystopian future.

Also dude let him run, knowing what he is. He's actually their unsung hero.
He also piloted his own Spinner, they better squeeze his fat ass back into that role.

I really hope Edward James Olmos gets in on this! Hell I would even hope they have him as the protagonist :D
Agreed, I would have watched the spin-off movie of him alone.

I have to admit that EJO has aged pretty well.

His Gaff doesn't get enough credit. He's barely in the movie but was able to create this mysterious and weird character.

It's details like Gaff that makes the original so special. He's not a big part but he makes an impression just as everything else does. Every single element of the movie is interesting, every visual thing is apart of this fully realized tapestry. It's an absolute masterpiece of world building.

that performance is to subtle for a modern big budget movie. i hope for the best with the new movie.

Regarding Gaff the expression "they don't make em like they used to" fits perfectly. Subtle character, little screen time but with great touches and plenty of charisma to make an impression.

I think Gaff should be the Blade Runner chief in the new movie.

I kinda don't want Gaff in a larger role because I'd be worried about him losing his mystique. But I'd definitely love it if he was brought back in some capacity.

The secret to looking good when you're old is to have always looked old.

When does this film? Because this still seems to good to be true. I'm just waiting for something to go wrong where they aren't involved anymore. Because if one goes, this is probably a situation where everyone walks.

Filming start's next summer. June I believe but don't quote me on that. But definitely next summer is what Denis and Ridley have said.

Denis Villeneuve said he's already begun a bit of pre production while he's on post for SOYL.

Next summer? That's a long time for a lot of stuff to go wrong in this business. And it's entirely possible. I'm just bracing myself for the bad news. I hope I'm wrong, but this just doesn't seem to be the thing where this is gonna work out how we imagine. I think Denis will leave, followed by Deakins, then they either frantically search for a new lesser director on short notice or Scott comes back but until after this next Alien film, pushing this film back even more.

Why would Denis leave? He's spoken about Blade Runner being the movie that lit the flame for him to become a director so it's his passion project so to speak. He's not attached to any project and this is his next movie. The guy is doing post production work now and then by next spring he's fully into Blade Runner sequel mode.

There's no script issues either, the screenplay is done and Ford called this the best script hes' ever read. Don't think he's said that about Star Wars.

Dude, it's Hollywood. And it's a year from now. Anything could happen. I really hope I'm wrong. I really want to be, but this just too good to be true. It'll be real to me when I see set photos.

It would have been better to make an original sci fi film with this crew of people instead of Blade Runner 2. These people have the ability to inspire the next big things.

I do have that fear too. I mean, who knew that Edgar Wright would leave Ant-Man like that?

So basically you're being a pessimist because you have nothing to basis any of your fears on. :funny:

No anything's possible though.

You can say that about any movie not in active development.

But unless you find me quotes or an article saying Blade Runner 2 is having trouble and the director might leave, I'll just call you a pessimistic so and so.

It's easy. An in demand director, DP and actors attached to a big budget studio sequel to a pre-existing property. Things aren't always smooth.

And Octoberist is right. It was the exact situation with Wright on Ant Man. It happened with Fukunaga with IT as well. That had the same exact things going for it as this does and I get the same feeling. Does it mean it will happen? No. But the ingredients are all there for it to. I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic about how in Hollywood, things change all the ****ing time. That's a fact. Villueneve's next movie could flop for all we know and the studio will get scared and doing things behind the scenes that can effect him. Maybe not, but outcome and the future in Hollywood is so damn unpredictable.

And in demand director who's not attached to anything. THIS is his next project. He's already in Pre Prep. Nah I'll stick to pessimism because for the examples you gave its' two out of hundreds of directors it didn't happen to. What you're worried about applies to all movies not in active production.

And Denis next movie aint a big budget movie either. I think its' got a 50m budget which is about a 10 million increase on Sicario's budget. BR2 will be his first big budget movie.
