OK, so the same director/cinematographer pairing that gave us "Sicario" are doing this?

My anticipation level just went through the roof. :mrk::mrk:

Natalie Portman.

Don't hate messenger, just telling ya'll the goddamn truth.

I'd rather have Rooney Mara. :awesome:

Thanks for the heads up, so how does HF's character feature in this, i heard it was a bit part at the end? Gosling looks an obvious choice to carry on the torch.

Not sure, but Ford also signed up to another project with Anthony Hopkins and others to start shooting in March and BR2 start's in June/July. But it's obvious Gosling is the main guy for this one but from a marketing view it will be based around Ford. I mean HF is 70+ now he's not going to be runnig around like he was in his heyday.

I was always concerned about a Bladerunner sequal after all this time but that is giving me hope about this.

I wonder if Natalie Dormer is trying to nab a role in this yet.

I have a original 1982 vintage Japanese “Blade Runner” poster on my study wall so I went with my Blade Runner poster rolled up under my arm on my first day on set on The Councilor and was nervously trying to find an opportune moment to get Ridley to sign it for me. Look at me, fangirl! And bless him, he did. I put it back into its frame on my wall.

Dormer is Starring in film Official Secrets with Harrison Ford as well.

BladeRunner sequel gets release date http://thr.cm/hHSjaX

The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece Blade Runner has gotten a domestic release date from Warner Bros.

The film will hit theaters over Martin Luther King holiday weekend, on Jan 12, 2018. Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford will star in the film, which will be helmed by Sicario director Denis Villeneuve.

Wow. Deadpool really is effecting things. No way in hell this would be released in that date if Deadpool didn't succeed. Least we know it'll be R rated now.

Blade Runner was always going to be an R rating otherwise Denis and Ridley especially would've had those execs head on a plate.

Studios must be trying to colonize January and February. Cant really blame them. Marvel and Lucasfilm and DC have the rest of the year claimed. Well providing this doesnt look like a crappy film Ill go watch it so January or whenever I will support it.

It's a Denis Vileneuve being shot by Roger Deakins, last thing its' going to be is a crappy looking shot movie Marv and the story is by the pairing (Hampton Fancher/Ridley Scott) who originally wrote the first one as well.

I didnt mean visually crappy. Im sure the cinematography will be great. I meant crappy in general. As in Total Recall remake crappy.

This wouldnt be the first time 5 star talent had produced a crappy film. As of now Im optomistic, but there is always the chance this could be an unsatisfying film.

It certainly did help but studios have been releasing more films in January that people want to see over the last few years. And they've been R rated. A couple of days ago I suggested The Predator would do well that weekend since summer 2017 and 2018 are loaded with big budgeted films.

That weekend has become successful over 4-days in launching American Sniper ($107M), Ride Along 1/2 ($48M/$41M), The Book of Eli ($38M), Cloverfield ($46M and adjusting for inflation it is at $55M). http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime...MLKOPEN&p=.htm

Plus Blade Runner 2 will benefit from audiences going to the theatre to see Star Wars Episode VIII during the month leading up MLK Weekend. Like Harrison Ford revisiting an old role? Go see this film. By the time Blade Runner 2 is out, SW will have dwindled down to the point where it won't be a major competitor.

Some studio will counter program Blade Runner with a comedy but this is a smart move by WB. They now have 9 films spread out over 2018 that are all big budget event films.

American Sniper was fail proof. It was made and marketed for the "patriotic" " 'murica **** yeah!" crowd, and it was about a well known soldier who had recently been murdered. It was made by Clint Eastwood and stared a well known handsome actor. It could have been released any time of year and it would have done well in America.

It wasn't a 'fail proof' film -- you might say that now, but no one expected AS to do as well as it did prior to release. Movies with stories around Middle East conflict weren't that bankable or popular, outside of Lone Survivor. At best I expected AS to pull Lone Survivor numbers -- pretty good but not great.

Coupled with its Oscar nominations the day before and discussion over whether it was anti-war or not, it drew in lots of viewers from both political sides. No one expected it to shatter records left and right, and it held very well throughout its run. I never expected AS to have a summer blockbuster run in mid-January.

It's going to take more than nostalgia and a cult following for the BR sequel to do well, it has to be a genuinely good movie. It's not surprising WB dated this film after Deadpool came out, they realize people will come to see movies any time of the year. And if they're appealing R-rated sequels/spinoffs, that's even more of an incentive.

Robin Wright Joins "Blade Runner" sequel in key role (EXCLUSIVE) http://bit.ly/1nMuwNu

Robin Wright is in final negotiations to join Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in Alcon’s “Blade Runner” sequel.

The story, written by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green and based on a story by Fancher and Scott, continues several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original — which was set in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles. It is unknown who Wright will be playing and also unknown if she will be playing a human or droid.

Principal photography on the sequel is scheduled to begin in July, with cinematographer Roger Deakins reuniting with Villeneuve on the project. Alcon Entertainment acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights in 2011 from the late producer Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic science-fiction thriller. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will produce along with Alcon co-chiefs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Bud Yorkin will receive producer credit.
Scott will serve as executive producer. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEOs of Thunderbird Films, will also serve as executive producers along with Bill Carraro.

The studio had been after Wright for some time, but her complicated “House of Cards” schedule made it look unlikely that she would be available. Sources indicate Alcon was able to work out schedule issues and a deal is expected to close.

She has to be a replicant! She would nail it.

Yep I'd put money on her being a replicant of some kind.

Do you think Amy Adams's Justice League schedule would allow her join this movie? She did meet with Ryan Gosling for a dinner date last year. :woot:

Yes it would but not very likely. We still don't know why Gosling and Amy met up a few months back. Could be for the Neil Armstrong biopic that he's attached too.

So Dave Bautista tweeted this out a couple of hours ago.

How the frak is Olmos not signed to this yet?

I liked Bautista in SPECTRE. Not much screen time, but he had a commanding presence when he was there.

Replicant? :awesome:

So... this has probably already been discussed, but... what ending is going to be considered the canonical one? The "happy ending" or the Director's Cut's (my personal favorite)? Will Rachel still be alive?

The DC's cut open ending was perfect, I'm not sure I like the idea of knowing what happened next.
