This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]479593[/split]
I'm not a fan of Elgin either, but I do feel bad for the guy - going to Japan is a huge goal for him so I can at least sympathize.
However, my problems with Elgin extend to a large portion of the indy scene. When the indy scene lost guys like Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness & Austin Aries in short succession, there was a huge hole created that hasn't been filled. And by that, I don't just mean "stars" or talented guys. When those guys left the indies, they were some of the few still around on the indies who broke into the business in the early 2000s when ex-WWE/WCW/ECW performers were still working indy promotions regularly. Why is that important?
Because they were some of the last to work shows regularly with veterans of the 80s & 90s - guys who had been involved in the business during peak years, who knew how to work crowds & how to work 'smart.' Guys like Danielson, McGuinness & Aries had figured out how to do more with less - in stark contrast to the guys that followed them at the top of the card in ROH, like Roderick Strong, Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards.
If anything, I was hoping that Elgin would get a chance to travel to Japan so he'd be exposed to long-time veterans who could help reign him in some. Guys like Nagata, Suzuki, Makabe, Kojima, etc. Hopefully he'll get his chance someday though.
Yahoo had an article on the WWE's financial woes:

The 750M loss is news to me.
The thing is there are still guys like Corino and Nigel heavily involved with the promotion so that should help, and you can see in someone like Adam Cole that this style of never ending strike exchanges and high impact move sequence kick-outs that Richards in particular fostered is just an excuse for the less talented workers to basically con workrate marks, hell I'd even say Steen has shown how to work a more varied style than Elgin knows how to.
The problem in my view is simply down to the individuals, guys who think the 90's AJPW style is the be all and end all of pro wrestling, yet they lack any of the psychological aspects of selling and build up that Kobashi, Misawa, Kawada and co would implement as they structured those matches to the big, crazy spot finishing sequences.
I honestly don't think Elgin has anything to make him a star, he's poor on the mic, he has no charisma, he's a one note worker and he's too small to be a true powerhouse but too big to be the underdog. However all the guys working his style could learn a lot from guys like Cole and Hero on how to have much smarter and more varied matches within ROH.
Tyson Kidd is good in the ring but lacks charisma.
Are you concerned that people might work on NXT but fail to transition onto the main roster?
"always a concern, we give them the tools but Success or failure depends on the talent. If it was easy, anyone could do it."
He was also in season one of Total Divas, totally oblivious to Natalya wearing lingerie.
I have an idea of how Vince can make his money back.
Lifesized Diva Brawlin' Buddies. From what I can tell, the Paige model can generate $750 million just from the posters on this thread.
