Body Trackers

I think everyone on Earth has something to hide, whether it's illegal or not. There is that one thing you don't want anyone else to EVER know.

My secret shame...

This is a highly interesting subject, I will not let this thread die!

I don't like the line of logic presented by most hypesters here. The "if you've got nothing to hide it shouldn't be a big deal".

Seems like people are missing the point of their individual liberties and the many who have died to uphold them.

There are people who deserve to be monitored 24 hours a day, they're called convicts.

What if one day the government doesn't have the interest of the people at heart?
We've relinquished a lot of power to the governing bodies, and inch by inch they take over our lives.

First it'll be only a tracking chip, then maybe the next step is our tracking chip also doubles up as our credit card, our transit pass, our whole lives can easily be put into a chip.

The countries we grew up to love start having a nastier face then we remember. The promises have been broken. Things get rough.
What are you going to do now that the government knows your every move, has records of every place you've been, knows everyone of your mundane patterns and directly controls your purchasing power and can cut you off from the world at the push of a button?

You can't blindly trust any ruling body. Please refer to history.

p.s. I'm disappointed in you Ultra Lantern, shouldn't of let something this good die so easily.

Yeah, for sure it is an interesting theoretical scenario, and there are of course insidious people in power who wish to implement such ideas, but, c;mon, take it easy, don't worry, this sh** will never go down, I know i may sound like I am being over confident, but no, i am just confident in my own abilities to save us all from such draconian measures, even if I have to go out there with a biscuit tin lid and a wooden spoon, i will superhero this sh** out, I know folk must be worried, angry and scared, but I am doing my best, and will do my best.
btw, I need some donations for that wooden spoon and biscuit tin lin. and i need a catchier name than wooden spoon man.

Maybe not tracking devices but why don't we have some kind of federal DNA database of all US residents? That would speed things up in criminal cases and wouldn't do us any harm. Would it?

I really don't think I am being overly imaginative.

Not so long ago people would of had the same reaction if I told them that maybe one day people would start getting microchip implants.

Some people just don't want that kind of thing to become the de facto norm, it should be voluntary, it is not a nice notion, the government forcing people to line up and give over their genetic identities, it has a somewhat sinister feel to it. Why?
Well, apart from any kind of moral and philosophical objections, these kind of things can always be ****ed with if the authorities feel you are a problem too, it can make it much easier for cops, the government etc etc to frame and screw with anyone they want, to get them out of the way.

Yeah, I know, there are folk out there in the shady parst of the government trying to implement god knows what in these departments, to control all aspects of life, scary.
But, in my way, i was just saying that there will always be peopel out there fighting against such measures, and would not bow down to such laws, lots of folk would go off the grid, myself included.

It feels like there are less and less people fighting.
More and more we let politicians scare us into decisions.

The likely scenario isn't that big brother will kick down our doors and stab a tracking chip into the bases of our spines and all a sudden we'll go from democracy to totalitarianism.

No, of course not. What is more likely to happen is that we will get convinced that it is for our own good.

Just look at this thread, you've got as many people who are for it as those who are against it, a handful who aren't taking it seriously, a handful that figure we'd be able to override it, and a handful that are on the fence.

This is why I'd like to see more people put their 2 cents in, get more of a consensus, because there is some importance in this.

Only for Criminals with major offenses. Like sex offenders, robbers, etc.

I'd refuse. Besides holding some belief in the religious concept that this could very well be the "mark of the beast" talked about in REvelations, I don't like the idea of having to have anything like that inside me. Any number of things could go wrong, and who knows that they won't implement some instant kill switch to my brain or something. One malfunction and BAM, and it is not something they could say "oops, sorry" either.

How are tracking chips the calling card of the devil?
Oh well, if that's what it takes to keep a big chunk of conservatives from letting this pass then I'm all for it!
