BOF Opinion about Batman's involvment in the Justice League movie

They should just do a movie based off of JLA: Year One, replace black canary with Wonder Woman. Nobody complained about the lack of Batman and Superman in that story and it was an excellent story.

As long as they keep it dark and badass.

this statement alone is why comics were so ridiculously bad at times during the 90's and why so many movies lack substance. It's why so many side characters were forced to the front lines because they had cigars in their mouths and it's why everybody became a roided up beast in the comics. Dark and bad ass are important to Batman... but be careful when you ask for them. They might lure the younger males but ultimately they guarantee nothing in terms of quality. They are only two of about fifty different things needed to do a JLU movie respectully. Dark and bad ass explains the Ghost Rider movie. However, words like good, intelligent, original, or creative DONT fit the Ghost Rider movie at all. I agree that darkness and toughness are important to keeping Batman's aura... but I think that emphasizing them too much is just plain insulting to fans of the material and characters.

My take on Batman's involvment.
I see him as the loner, not a team player. I like the idea of him never being an "official" member. But he does show up to help out, sometimes uninvited. I also see him keeping tabs on them behind their back.
But I also see him believing in the JLA with all his heart, thinking they could do some real good and even change the world.
Maybe he could even fund it.

They could recast Bale in the second Justice League. Like he shows up in the first one, and they recast for the second movie.

I'm thinking it'll be more in line with the X-Men films rather than a superhero Seinfeld episode. I also think that Routh and Bale will be the leads, but Batman will be killed off only to appear at the end and save the day. Also remember this isn't the whole DCU, don't expect three Green Lantern's and the JSA. There will be 7 Leaguers maximum.

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Flash
Green Lantern
Green Arrow
J'onn J'onzz

Becuase this will be an origin film, there will be distrust and the like, Batman is sure to ruffle a few feathers. It doesn't have to be that expensive either, I'm sure $175 million would be enough (That's $50 mil more than X-Men 2 had).

I honestly feel given that Batman Begins and Superman Returns cost each around 150 million and 200 million respectively that those sorts of budgets will NOT be sufficient for an epic scale JL film.

Criticalcasting, I totally agree with what you referenced in terms of needing to get Bale and Routh in this... it would be absolutely stupid to recast them as it would almost CHEAT viewers, as in they spent their money accepting a different actor for a particular hero but now to be given just another actor right after presumbably established and successful franchises would really be annoying. There'd be no slight continuity (one major thing the Batman movies suffered from)

What would the budget be for the film? Any idea for a potential storyline? There is no way this could involve Darkseid or some massive space invasion type of thing cuz that sort of stuff would cost more then 300 million, especially with all the powers needed to exhibit on display and interplanetary travel and war type scenarios and designing of ships and technology for the film.

Look at X-3, it had a budget of over 200 million yet although it had the most massive epic scale action sequence featured in an X-men film (which should've been featured in the first two films but those two films had **** action choreography courtesy of Singer, that sad, X-3 is awful), the action itself in the film wasn't so great with Wolverine hacking and slashing randomers, and Telekinetic cars being flipped over on fire over and over... i mean it was a great epic battle but if that's all they can do right now with 200 million dollars.... it's going to take a **** load more money to tackle Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter each using his/her own powers and getting to a massive scale defence style battle against some alien invasion...

Presumably if they get a script, I've seen loads of casting posts but screw that... PICK YOUR CREW! if anything Crew is equally as important, who would you get to DIRECT, to Score the music, to be DOP (you need an abs fantastic DOP here), who would you get for Visual effects, make up, Costume designing... I'd like to hear it all from you folks

I think 7 leaguers would work, but I'd like to see Aquaman in there as well. The original roster was I believe: Supes, Bats, WW, Flash, GA,MM and Aquaman. Maybe a roster of 8 then.

Batman HAS to be involved. I say he should be an unofficial member. Never a full member (and not a team player). I also say he should be seen by the rest of the team (not superman) as not as powerfull as the rest of the team and have to prove himself (not that he cares just that his actions automatically proves himself)
He should be the most dangerous human alive like he is in the comics, the best member of the team,
BUT
I don't think he should be a major focus of the film. He has already been in several movies and TV shows including several cartoons.
I think this film should focus on the team as a whole and on its members who don't have their own films yet, like Wonder Woman, Flash, and GL.

But batman definatly has to be in there, and not just a background character.
