Bono Excited About Spider-man Musical....

U2 rocker Bono is confident the Spider-Man musical he is currently working on will dazzle audiences, because it will be "something the likes of which no-one has seen or heard".

The singer is creating the Spider-Man production with his bandmate The Edge and director Julie Taymor, whose new film Across The Universe he has a cameo in.

The U2 stars and Taymor are currently hunting for a New York theatre big enough to house their project, and Bono is already warning audiences to expect the unexpected.

He says, "If we pull off what we're trying, it will be something the likes of which no-one has seen or heard.

"It should be a hallucinogenic experience for theatregoers. You have the visual energy she (Taymor) brings. The myth of the arachnid and the elasticity of these characters - you can turn theatre upside down."

And Bono and The Edge plan to bring a wide range of music to the production.

Bono adds, "We've got some punk rock in there and some beautiful opera".

awesome.. if only Bono can pull himself away from the charity work for a while to complete work on this..

I will definitely fly to New York just to see this. She's an awesome director, and Bono is usually pretty awesome. Also, I love music. What's not to like?

Care less about what ANYONE says about this ....

when it comes out, ill be there opening day with some decent seats. :-D

I was also wondering why so many people seem so dead-set against it...

I'd definitely be interested in checking it out.

I wanted U2 to do a song for a Spidey soundtrack, but this will be, like, 100x better :woot:  .

Whatever, guys. This sounds absolutely ******ed. A trippy Spiderman stage musical developed by old, dying hippies? I'd rather listen to Meat Loaf Batman jams.

YES i wanted a song too, but this wont totally be better, because Bono wont actually be singing i assume, instead the actors will

I thought the same thing when i first heard that someone had made a musical out of the story of Jesus, but i watched it, and Jesus Christ Superstar remains one of my favorite movies of all time...

Im willing to give Bono a chance. That "old dying hippie" still has more talent in his little pinky that most of todays "artists" have in their entire bodies, regardless.

Old, dying, hippies? Who? Julie Taymor? Have you seen the Lion King broadway production? Have you seen Titus? Both are incredible. And Bono didn't even become big until the late 70's, the hippie era was the 60's, chief. Do you know anything about the people you're calling old, dying hippies? How about you don't judge a book by it's cover, and give it a chance. It is Spider-Man, after all. Are you afraid of it being cheesy and happy? Take a look at Taymor's track record. While I haven't seen her new movie, Titus has a great visual aesthetic quality, and the storyline involves a girl getting violated and having bodyparts cut off, and a guy serving a woman her two sons cooked in a pie. So don't just make assumptions about what these people can do. This woman could probably direct a great Spider-Man movie. She wouldn't let the studios interfere, she would make it amazing.

And while it would be awesome to hear Bono perform a song about Spider-Man, he'll probably have a hand in deciding who sings the music he wrote, so It'll still have his style all over it.

I know the term "musical" has a connotation of being cheesy, but there are some fantastic musicals out there, and I don't just mean things like "Singin' in the Rain". I mean you can be really dark with a musical, like "Jekyll and Hyde", or the new Tim Burton movie based on an old musical, "Sweeny Todd", which looks great. You can get away with darker subject material on broadway much easier than in Hollywood. This has the potential to be a really great event for Spidey, I'm surprised at the amount of backlash it's getting here.

I dont mind Taymor so much as Bono and "The Edge", who has a stupid name. INXS was a better band than U2, Bono should have died instead of Johnny INXS.

That's not cool, dude. Both men have brought a lot to the musical industry....:csad:

most nicknames are stupid to people who arent on the inside. its not like Dave "the Edge" Evans, one day was like "hey all you guys will now refer to me as 'The Edge'"

and you might be pushing even Bono's pacifest ways with that statement, he might pimp slap you for it, Johnny was his friend

I know. U2 covered the sweet never finished INXS song as a tribute and I jammed it regularly, squinting my ears and pretending it wasnt U2.

wait a sec, okay i don't know really anything about INXS, but why are we calling him Johnny, i thought Michael Hutchence was the one who died?

I love it! Both Jim and Evan were fantastic in Across the Universe. Heres a pic...

I've been hoping Jim would get a role in a comic book property.

i'd love to see them in it.. hell personally i think they'd be better then tobey and kirsten :-P

Can't wait for this. And he's absolutely right. If they get this to be the way I think it will- an amazing broadway spectacle. It's definitely going to revolutionize broadway. Hell, might even get an Aladdin broadway someday even due to the rise in stage technology... who knows what we can do?

The Lion King, Wicked & LOTR all had AMAZING special effects... so, it's very possible that they can get this to work with a couple of new additions to the tehnological advancements.

Well he is just a kid.

I can't wait to find out more and how things are coming along.

I would have more faith in this if Taymor wasn't the one involved.

AKA, Across the Universe was an embarrassment to the world of the movie-musical. I could have made a better film with my eyes closed, mouth sewn shut, limbs cut off and a man raping me.

It was as well put together as whales raping coral reef in the middle of London, Africa. Yes, it made as much sense as that sentence, maybe even less in a far more vapid way.

The Edge is cool though.
