Even if you hate a concept or writer on an event you pretty much have to read it if it "changes everything" just so you know where the current state of affairs is at. Now you could just get caught up on the internet, but that's not always enough as someone else's thoughts will never mirror your own take on something.
Finally, some people buy stuff just on the small chance they get suprised and like the story they end up getting. Personally I don't really like bendis on most of his stories and dispise his "events" with every fiber of my being, but I've also enjoyed his run on Daredevil, Alias and I do like USM. So I do think it's possible this event could surprise and turn out pretty good, I just wouldn't bet on it.
End of the day, anyone that buys the book has as much right to tear it to shreds as someone else does to praise it's brilliance. Different opinions are the point of these boards and anyone saying people who read an issue, think about it a good deal, then articulate some very good points based on their personal opinions and preferences, should just shut up, is not just stupid but missing the point entirely. If you want to hear nothing but your own opinions, don't go on the internet.
No? Yeah, I'm gonna go with no.![]()
Buying something you don't like to "stay current" is idiotic.
Sorry it is.
This is fair enough, I'm all for taking a chance on something.
I'm not sure of the concept of "right" so i'll leave that the hell alone.
I don't want to hear my own opinions but I would like some well written ones to contrary (spelling). Dread (the current and popular example) is an excellent writer, the best that regularly reviews on the hype. Except when Bendis (and lately millar) is involved. He suddenly goes onto auto pilot and types the same bile filled paragraphs each time. When something makes you produce hate filled rants with such regularity it's bloody common sense to suggest dropping the book. It completely effects his critical reasoning too, dread has given reasonably positive reviews to a significant portion of bendis's recent output, but so in the habit of these spite filled paragraphs is he that i'm not sure he can see it.
I bought the first couple issues of Tomasi's run. It wasn't bad. I'm actually not buying it because I've got a ton of debt at the moment and I need to cut back on as many comics as possible. But hey, don't let paltry things like facts or real life stop you from most likely turning people away from Nightwing with your acerbic demands.OH HAY GUYZ LOOK AT ME IM NOT GONNA PICK UP THIS BOOK BECAUSE 5 AUTHORS AGO AND 100 ISSUES AGO IT STARTED TO SLIP IM SUPER COOL AND EVERYONE ON THE HYPE KNOWS ME
seriously, go ****ing buy it.

I do it with ASM.
So you have never bought a newspaper with news about something you didn't like just to know about the subject. You've never read, watched, or listened to something you didn't necessarily like just so you're not lost later on? You're lying if you say you've never done such a thing. It's an ill thought out argument without any level of introspection or thought. Sorry it is.
You can't understand the concept that your opinion is just as valid as mine whether you agree or not and that it's your right as a human to have your own thoughts and beliefs on anything you choose?
You're assuming you're this objective knight on a mountian looking down at the prejudiced villagers and showing them true objective thought. If you really think you're not completely subjective like everyone else on this earth then you're just in deep deep denial. Everyone's personal opinions influence what they think, write and do.
Don't suppose you understand someone else so completely that you can comprehend their reasoning or mindset. That's idiotic and reaching.
Dread probably goes the most in depth of any reviewer here and doesn't just spew, "bendis sucks".
He writes pages that explain why he thinks the way he does, you might not agree, but the man's not on autopilot.
People boil down some very good points to him just being of one mindset. Group anyone into just one category and see how fast you look like an @sshole.
