Thought:

New Warriors - So I guess no one but me caught who the Alpha Clan were. Those old characters from Hanna-Barbara cartoons. Space Ghost, BirdMan, Tor (or whatever that caveman superhero's name was) etc. Heh. Grevioux used to watch the same crap I did.

Legion of Superheroes 39 - Started reading this again when Shooter came on board. Decent story so far and I like the artist. But since I missed a year or more of the book there are some questions I don't have the answer to. Like it says Collosal Boy is from Earth but in the beginning of the latest series he claimed to be from a planet of Giants. V:csad:V

The Order 8 - This series has only just been okay to me so the fact that it is ending just means a few more bucks in my pocket. It will be interesting to see if the team shows up anywhere else. Avengers:Initiative, maybe or probably in the new Iron Man series...

The Order is Marvel's best team book, and the best new book with new characters since Runaways.

I'll also add that I'm enjoying The Order more now than I was when Runaways was at #8.

Have to disagree, that would be Young Avengers.
love that book...and although im enjoying these one shots i cant wait till the whole team is together in a book officially.

Yeah, the current mini is cool, but the art in this last one was pretty wonky in parts. I'm not looking forward to Alan Davis' issue either.

I always look forward to Alan Davis issues. :)

Hulkling's issue was kind of bland overall to me. I don't know if it's because I'm not a fan of Mar-Vell being back in the first place or because I'm jealous that Hulkling got this issue while Phyla and Genis never will, but I went in with some strong biases. It was still okay, but I figured I would probably enjoy this less than the others and, hey, I was right.

Oh well, bring on the Vision already. That's the issue I'm really looking forward to.

I'm a classier crackhead than that. :oldrazz:

I love me some Captain Marvel, but damn it if Marvel's not gung ho on making him one of the worst deadbeat dads in history.

Also, Alan Davis is going to bomb. He can't draw convincing kids.

Kick-Ass #1 - Really surprised me.Didn't know what to expect here. The main character is a sad piece of **** and Millar really makes you feel sorry for this guy.Comics are this guy's only outlet with his life in shambles. The monologue was natural and the dialog among the teens wasn't force as many writers tend to do.Wasn't really interested in this at first, but this was a great first issue which really got the job done.

Yet to read...

Superpowers #1
DD #105
Cap #35

I didn't feel sorry for the main character at all. He's pretty unlikeable, actually.

His mom died of natural causes at a young age and he barely sees his pops who works the night shift. He hangs around a group of nerds and has no idea how to properly socialize. He puts on a costume and gets his ass kicked.

We play the hands we're dealt and sometimes in very stupid ways.

Captain America #35 - That shot of Cap leaving the alley felt very Kirbyish to me.Anyways,I love the new outfit and seeing 'Cap" busting heads is always good, especially when it's an evil security force.I love the idea of America on fire and Bru is really capturing that state of panic here.

DD #105 - Hmmm,it was a great issue but this arc has been very stretched out.The "twist" of Fear revealing that he killed the chemist to stop the discovery of a cure was pretty obvious since it happened so it didn't resonate with me.

Superpowers #1
- Some awkward lines in Yank's monologue, his reaction to Black Terror's resurrection was such lazy writing. The closing panel was very hollow as well.Other than that, this was a small step down from #0 but there was still enough there to keep me onboard for #2.

FYI, BrianWilly, I actually DO read BLUE BEETLE, and enjoy it too. Been on it since issue #1.

As for YOUNG AVENGERS PRESENTS #2, it is odd that SHIELD, or, because Iron Man has seemed more forgiving about unregistered heroes since CW ended (and specifically, Cap's death), the CSA & the Thunderbolts, haven't tried arresting the YA. In the first issue, Brubaker had Billy seem to imply that so long as the YA aren't "caught" acting as superheroes in public, they are considered "retired" after getting amnesty for siding with Cap during CW. That was why Billy didn't want to accompany Patriot and Hawkeye in #1. Granted, THIS issue the entire team was battling robots in broad daylight with police officers within full visual range and shooting at them, so one could claim that if they WERE off the hook by being considered "retired", that charade is over now.

Of course, there was some confusion whether they were part of The Initiative or not, and in SHE-HULK it was noted that the YA who joined the feds were alternate-reality versions. So one supposes if anyone tried to arrest the YA, they could lawyer up and go, "it was Alternate Reality Hulkling, and if you think it wasn't, go prove it." I mean, Danny Rand got out of being arrested by Iron Man via that "reasonable doubt" excuse. Granted, after watching Iron Man & SHIELD bend the Constitution like putty during CW and seeing the Thunderbolts eager to brutalize anyone who even THINKS about "misplacing their papers" (as in DAMAGE CONTROL #2 this week), it does seem awkward...part of the problem of having a mini written by a new writer every month.

One other comic...

FEARLESS #4 This little superhero mini from Image comes to a close. Adam Rygert's identity as the vigilante Fear has been exposed by Victor and his "fear-reducing" gas stolen from him. His mentor is dead, and he has a horde of fearless goons coming after him. Adam manages to escape with the help of his reporter girlfriend and manages to turn the tables on Victor even after his mob seems to overrun the city by controlling and dispensing the supply of "anti-fear" drug, to which he is addicted to. Adam manages to overcome his own paranoia just long enough to cut Victor from his supply, which the young gangster sacrifices his life trying to save. The series ends with Adam's girlfriend unsure of whether the man she loved was just a by-product of the gas, and Adam managing to re-produce it after all. The creators promise this isn't the end for Fear as more mini's may be coming. This is hardly classic material and I've read far better superhero comics from Image, but this wasn't bad. Fear had a cool design. I wonder if this fella will make a cameo via the Kirkman/Faerber Image-verse.

ugh, every fear villain uses fear gas or fearless gas. and i think they are realizing that, as Scarecrow recently went psychological in Detective, and Mr. Fear now secretes it through sweat glands or whatever as of DD #105.

It's unfortunate, but that's kind of a standard story. Except for his mom dying; that part's pretty sad. The rest, though? Broken home leading to social awkwardness? That's about half of America and probably like 70% of the people posting on message boards like this. There's relatable and then there's run-of-the-mill.

Ok, so it's not a comic book, but I watched JLA: The New Frontier this week. What a pile of crap. For as much money and talent as DC threw at this thing, it somehow managed to come off as worse--yes, WORSE--than one of Marvel's new DTV's. The voice acting was easily the worst aspect of the whole thing. Not only were the actors terrible for the roles they were chosen for, but everyone seemed like they were trying to deliver their lines as fast as possible. That pretty much went along with the actual story and how rushed that was, too. It was just an awful mess. The only parts I enjoyed were the scenes with J'onn as a detective. I'd buy a Martian Manhunter comic book if that were the premise.

There already is one. It shapeshifted into Superman. That's why it sucks so much more than Action right now.

If it were a comic about the Martian Manhunter, it'd instantly be better than a Superman comic.
