Bought/Thought July 22nd, 2009

Wasn't that an online comic that was put out there before his turn, but only put in print after it? Either way, maybe part of the purpose of writing that was to put more weight in his turn on Vulcan, since he was so devoted to the throne previously as shown in that comic.

I don't know, I guess Warriors might have come out online first. I only read it when it was published.

WAR OF KINGS: WARRIORS was indeed released first as part of Marvel's half arsed digital wing before eventually being reprinted. To date virtually all of their online exclusive comics have eventually been printed and sold on the direct market, albeit 3-5 months later usually.

Gladiator needed the power boost; he was supposed to basically be akin to an evil version of Superman after all. I don't think he needed to hog the story, but it hasn't been as bad as some other stories were he was the star, like, say, GLADIATOR VS. SUPREME in the 90's.

As for his motivation, I saw his race's society as more akin to something out of Feudal Japan, which was why I was able to buy the origin story. In such societies, "honor" trumps everything; family, friends, even morality. If someone you are honor bound to obey orders you to rape and kill your entire family, you do it or you lose honor and are thus shamed or exiled by said society, which is all you know. It's something that for us opportunistic, individualistic Westerners, seems insane. But for more collective Eastern societies is accepted more. At least by prior generations. The Strontians were honor bound to the Shi'ar ruler out of paying a debt (the Shi'ar saved them from a plague), and that was that. Not all of them were as dedicated to the honor system, which is why Kallark is basically the only one left. And eventually he did turn against that honor-duty, at least to Lilandra, who he preferred to Vulcan. Now that she's dead and he's turned against Vulcan, it will be interesting to see how he goes. I do think it is a little more involved than, "he's an idiot", but then again I watch anime so I understand some of the "honor duty vs. morality/family/etc." thing that exists in some fiction. Such dilemmas have been fodder for many a samurai story. Does the samurai honor his station and emperor even when he/she orders something that is morally wrong, or does he shirk all that and become a "ronin", exiled from the only society he knows? Hell, it even comes up in American society in different ways, such as in the military or in some corporations.

Besides, it seems that the Strontian "will is power" system sometimes is mixed into that honor-duty; the trainees who doubted their mission soon lost their power.

That said, even by those standards, Kallark's cousin is a sadist like Vulcan, and needs a beat down the same. I am curious about whether Robbie is dead or not.

Dread I stopped picking up Herc at about the Secret Invasion tie in point but from your review it sounds like i have been missing out. I need to get the back trades soon.

Yes, yes you do.

So no one is talking about these books

Ms. Marvel 42 cause no one else is reading em I guess. this is a great kick off the the War of the Marvels arc. Brian Reed is keeping Marvel's one female title alive. Oh and if you haven't been reading this title Carol returned at the end of issue 41. I really though this title was gonna be stupid after he killed her in issue 37, but damn I was wrong. Lots of Ms. Marvel on Ms. Marvel action.

Dark Wolverine 75 & 76
I picked these both up having no interest in Daken at all I just heard that 75 was good. so I grabbed 75 and 76 just to check it out. I never thought I'd say it, but Daken is a cool character. If they gave him a solo title after Dark Reign I might pick it up. Daken is either a sociopath, a man with a plan, or just really bored and seeing how many buttons he can push.

Also here are some mini reviews
Final Crisis Aftermath: Dance #3- is surprisingly fun
Green Lantern #44- Was written well but didn't feel like a full issue. the main focus is the Blackest Night series right now I guess.
Incredible Hulk #600- This stupid fun book was just stupid this week. thank god we have the old team back next issue. I'm really enjoying the stories about Lyra, but I'd love to see Jennifer Walters.
Amazing Spider-Man #600 Great comic all across the board There is nothing bad to say about this book. I can't wait to see where things go from here.
Gotham City Sirens I love Dini on this book and Streets of Gotham. it gives you the same feeling you get when you're reading GL and GLC they're two separate books in the same world. hopefully it keeps going strong.

Well, I for one, love Ms Marvel and love issue 41... havent picked up 42 yet tho...

I've been loving Ms Marvel. Didn't know 42 was out yet though. 41 only came out a couple of weeks ago didn't it?

I'm glad to see others are reading Ms. Marvel I almost never see anyone discuss the book on here.
