Bought Thought June 16, 2010

I never played the video game; so, I had nothing to compare it to. I did see A-Team this weekend, which totally surprised me. I went in expecting bad things, but liked it very much. The movie just sounded bad on paper; but, the humor was decent and the action scenes constant throughout. Of course, Toy Story 3 blows both A-Team and Prince Of Persia out of the water. Can Pixar make a bad movie??!!?? Great film, especially the last 30 minutes.

Four Eyes #4

LOOOONNNNGGGG time in coming, the final issue of the first chapter comes to a satisfying conclusion. It just takes me a while to get back into these characters; as, I have to rack my brain about what happened before. To Joe Kelly's credit, even with the big delays (and, the feeling like we've seen this a bit of this before since How To Train Your Dragon has now come and gone from the theaters), I want more. :yay:

The Boys #43

One of my favorite story arcs, this issue concludes Billy Butcher's suspicions of Wee Hughie. I love that Mother's Milk takes matters into his own hands and sets Billy right. And, I'll really miss Superduper...I hope they appear in this magazine again, or at least get their own mini. (They're very much like The Boys version of GLA.) Great ending, and if Ennis sticks to his original plan, this comic only has about 20 issues left in it's run. :yay::yay:

Deadpool Team-Up #893

This is a good couple weeks old; but, as I'm finally putting away my comics, I had to read all the ones I haven't gotten to that start with A-D; otherwise, it would be another year before I'd get to putting them in correct order again. I'm reviewing it quickly here, because it's finally a decent issue of this comic. (I haven't been able to say that since the first issue, which guest-starred Hercules.) We get to see a team-up with Captain Britain (and a brief appearance by Pete Wisdom), and the writing is very humorous. MI-13 fans might not still want to buy it; but, it's definitely worth reading in your LCS. :yay:

Deadpool Corps #2-3

For that matter, I've been enjoying this book too, even though it can be very, very wordy. (But, what do you expect from FIVE Mercs With A Mouth??!!??) I love that The Champion has joined (???) the ranks of the Deadpool Corps...and, while I don't laugh out loud when reading the book, the humor is pretty spot on. I don't even mind Liefeld's art. (We all know some of his more infamous drawings of the past; but, I think his art has improved over the years. Sure, we still get some darn skinny waists on Female Deadpool...but, I'm not that distracted from the story. :yay:

Amazing Spider-Man Presents The Black Cat #1

Now, this comic I really enjoyed. It kind of ties into The Gauntlet, as the Kravinoffs seem to be trying to get back their stolen treasures, and Black Cat is being framed as the person stealing them. Of course, if you take out the Kravinoffs and Spider-Man, this story reads very much like a Catwoman tale. That's ok...I love Catwoman. Oh, and as an extra, the final pages have a Grim Hunt prologue that's worth reading. :yay::yay:

Some would argue that Cars was Pixar's bad movie, but I still liked it. It wasn't quite as good as their usual fare, though.

Four Eyes was awesome. Enrico's quickly becoming one of my favorite comic characters. It avoided comparisons to How to Train Your Dragon for me because it's a very different take on the dragon/kid bond. I have a feeling Four Eyes is gonna be a hell of a lot more ferocious and scary than Toothless. :)

yea, I hated Cars, but i also thought Up was pretty overrated....

(**prepares to be flamed to all hell**) lol

Entertainment Weekly rated the Pixar movies in this week's edition, leaving out Toy Story 3. Here is their take:

1. Toy Story
2. The Incredibles
3. Wall-E
4. Finding Nemo
5. Up
6. Cars
7. Toy Story 2
8. Ratatouile
9. Monsters, Inc.
10. A Bug's Life

For me, Wall-E is #1....and, I think I might agree that A Bug's Life is the worst of the bunch. But, still, any Pixar movie is better than most animated film, especially Ice Age. I loved Cars...thought Up was decent, too. BUT, Coraline was much better and should have won the Oscar.

I think Wall-E is my favorite of their films, too. Not even sure if I've seen A Bug's Life. I would probably agree on the better than most animated films too, at least most modern CGI animated films.

Is it really fair or even nice to call someone a "moron" because they happen to enjoy post OMD Spider-Man?

:csad:

Absolutely!!!!!

Nah, I was just messing around with Phaed... we do that. Honestly, I'd never call someone a moron for their tastes in comics. God knows I like stuff that most other people dispise... such as The Draco, The Other, and Sins Past.

Dark Wolverine #87

A one-shot story before the crossover with FrankenCastle happens. We get a feeling to Daken's feelings concerning the events in Wolverine: Origins' character-altering ending while he examines the more seedy side of Rome at night. It's kind of a creepy tale; but, I do find Daken's character facinating. :yay:
Finally got around to reading this and I really enjoyed it as well. I like these dark forays into Daken's twisted little mind. I can only hope his ongoing will be just as good. I liked how he compared and contrasted himself with the two different kinds of thieves he ran across and how he related them to his experiences with Romulus and the world. Just a lovely read. :D

Did anyone see Jonah Hex this weekend? My son wants to go, just because of Megan Fox...but, I hear it's pretty bad.

It looked like it could go that way. :( That's why I chose to NetFlix it instead of actually paying real money to go.

I saw it, and I liked it. Not a perfect movie by any stretch, but it was enjoyable.

I've never read Jonah Hex, but I'll usually check out any comic that was made into a movie, so if I like it, it may persuade me to start reading the book. The trailer changed that real fast.

I wish Ghost Rider had a sh***y trailer so I would've never wasted 2hrs of my life on that turd of a movie.

I hear Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti's recent (or possibly current, if it's still going) run on Jonah Hex is really good, actually. I've never read it, but hopefully the film will entice people to try it.

I don't think enough people saw it for that to happen unfortunately.

Oh, is it not doing well? I figured I'd rent it eventually. It seems way too overproduced. Lacks the western soul that the comic supposedly embodies, probably because western films haven't done well in, like, 40 years. :o

It only made about 5 million for its opening weekend

There's also a lot of negative press for Megan Fox right now, that may have hurt the movie too.

Well, trying to act for one. And I use "trying" quite liberally.

Really? What did she do?

She got passed over for Transformers 3 because of her piss poor attitude. She said the movies were brainless or something like that so Bay dumped her.

We live in a world when the general populace just starts hating you because everyone else does/it's the cool thing to do. I think most have just got sick of hearing about her.

It gets worse when you realize that "JONAH HEX" 's budget was anywhere between $47-$65 million, especially after rather extensive last minute re-writes and re-shoots. The official trailer was barely completed in time for the end of April. WB estimated/hoped for a debut of $10 million, and this was below even that. "PRINCE OF PERSIA" beat it out. It's so bad that executives within WB are making an effort to state that "JONAH HEX" was approved BEFORE Diane Nelson became CEO of DC Entertainment; basically, the "it was like that when she got here" explanation.

I didn't see it, for it looked dumb. I mocked it plenty in my Examiner News Columns in text and sprite comics. It merely serves as an example of the sorts of DC franchises WB evidently thinks are a "safer" financial risk than, say, Wonder Woman or the Flash. It is "CATWOMAN" for the new decade.

Yes, they have a really good series. I've been reading it since issue #1, and it's pretty rare when they have an off story. Also, most issues are one-off tales; so, you'd have no problem jumping on board any time.

Dang, I never thought I'd feel bad for Megan Fox because she told the truth. Then again, she doesn't have to work on those brainless Transformers movies anymore. Silver lining! :awesome:

Didn't think the first one was all that. Still haven't seen the second.
