Bought Thought October 3rd

GLC was all kinds of amazing, as was the Cyborg Superman one shot.

Uncanny X-Men was pretty sweet. Nice reveal at the end, even though we all knew it.

As to who the guy in the purple robe in Detective Comic is - it's Desaad, Darkseid's right hand man.

I read so many books yesterday that were better then Uncanny X-Men, that I completely forgot about the last panel reveal. Not bad.

Green Lantern Corps #16

The battle between Mogo and Ranx comes to a close this week. Pretty much what you would expect from a space comic in the middle of a war arc. Lots of power beams followed by dismembered limbs and torn up corpses. My favorite bit was the different reactions from various Lanterns after receiving their authorization to kill. On one side you have new-comers and soldiers like Vath and Isamot going all "Its about time!" and on the other side of the fence you can just see Kilowog's heart sinking with the announcement.

In any case, the battle ends but the war just steps into high-gear with the last page revealing what we learned in the last Green Lantern: the Sinestro Corps is going after Earth.

Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Cyborg Superman

A good portion of the issue (more than I would have liked actually) is devoted to retelling Hank Henshaw's origin. Maybe its just me, but I felt impatient getting through these pages. I know this story. Whatever. Once we were done with all that the story picked up.

The good guys take their knocks here, that's for sure. The Justice League is overwhelmed by all of the Manhunter/Sinestro Corps forces, the Watch Tower didn't look like it was in good shape, what with parts of it being blown apart and all and Henshaw manages to put Superman down personally, destroying a national monument along the way (and literally setting the stage for that Evil Shall Inherit the Earth promo shot that we've all seen).

Ms. Marvel #20

The arc comes to a close with last month's cliffhanger resolved by Carol's new Deus Ex Machina power. Puppet Master ends up killing himself (for however long he decides to stay dead), blowing his mansion up in an attempt to take Ms. Marvel with him. For her part, Carol willingly does nothing to prevent him knowing she'll survive the blast. Afterwards she lies in her report saying that there was nothing she could do and that as they say is that. Beast goes over Carol's case again just before the alien baddie all the way back from the first arc comes back at the close of the issue, likely pissed off about getting blown up and looking for some payback.

I'm sure somebody could make a post here about the sliding scale of morality and heroes killing. Ms. Marvel decides that because of her inaction she may as well have killed him, but argues on the other hand that he won't be able to hurt anyone again and pretty much concludes that it was worth it.

She comes off pretty cold-hearted in the last few pages and its definitely a dark turn but I'm not so sure that she came to this decision of her own free will, not with dirty aliens running around inside her body.

The art especially shined during Carol's fight with Stature, what with cars and homes being used as projectiles and all. Poor girl needs to learn how to take one on the chin. :cwink:

Hmm...I don't recall. If it was in the preview, then yeah, I saw it.

You read Detective yet? Does Harley get into costume? I'm not going to be able to read it until later.

I haven't read it yet. I think I'm only up to #830 right now.

GLC - Loved it, not much to say that hasn't already been said. The War is the best thing happening in DC right now.

Tales of SC - Always loved cyborg supes, I've been liking these one shots better than GLC and considering I've been loving GLC that's saying alot.

Metal Men - I @ucking love this series so far. Rouleau has been freaking people out with the erratic writing and story but I really think it makes so much sense. The Metal Men are in themselves varying in degrees of insanity and character and the writing just seems to fit them perfectly. (am I the only one that feels like this is purposeful and because of the characters?) I've always been a Metal Men fan, and I've been waiting for a proper story on them for a while. This, so far, seems to be it.

I'm trying to avoid all things countdown so no dective for me this month.

OtU - So far I'm a fan, but it's just the first issue and a reimagining of that, so I'll hold off too much judgement. People are saying he's going to be a sentry type figure. So far I like him vastly more.

Not too much else going on at Marvel, I'll wait for the MODOK trade. Beyond OtU nothing really got my interest.

Hmm...that's another good review for OtU. It seems to be split down the middle pretty good.

So far, it's a retelling, so I'm being cautious but I like it to this point. Now it could very easily take a nose dive and make him very much like the sentry in which case I boycott.

I don't know if I'd go that far, on the other side of the aisle are Capt., Iron Fist, and the Iniative (all very radical/progressive stories). But it's vastly better than Countdown (and most things to do with countdown), WWH (also called moronfest 2007!), and the winner for crappiest story this year: Amazons Attack.

I've been reading the Iniative and Iron Fist, but I still like Sinestro Corps War over the two of them. Then again, I'm a sucker for cosmic war stuff, like the original Annihilation. Conquest is kinda meh though, gonna have to see the actual main mini for it before I can say.

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of Conquest so far but maybe it'll be better in trade form. The cosmic wars stuff is cool, but that can also get a bit much and while great fantasy much more difficult to relate to. Not taking anything away from the war which has been awesome, but it's hard to compare those types of stories with something like Iron Fist for example since they're just so completely different and both excellent in they're own ways.
