Bought/Thought Thread for 7/6/11 - SPOILERS!

^^^ Some of that post started reminding me of Ennis's "The Boys"^^^

I thought the premise of "THE BOYS" was "Garth Ennis hates superheroes so he wants to write an entire series killing some." :o

:yay: Books!

Hulk #36

Parker's Rulk continues to best Pak's Hulks. What makes this issue so great is the return of MODOK and Zzzax. (Although, seeing Rulk take a nap, I guess that previous storyline is now done. That's the complaint about Parker's book; he skips from storyline to storyline rather quickly.)

Thunderbolts #160

And, that's the thing with Parker's books. He never really blows you away with his writing; but, it's always solidly entertaining. Complaint about this issue? Too much Juggernaut appearing in too many comics. I think this week alone had, like, four appearances. Dude gets around!

Spider-Girl #8

Good ending to this series. Who knows if Tobin wanted to end this storyline so quickly and in this way; but, I'm glad to see he'll be back with a Spider Island mini. (I'm hoping Arana keeps some of her powers, too.) Loved this little book, especially since Tobin was able to play around with this character more than he'd be able to do with more established characters.

Fear Itself: Uncanny X-Force #1 & Fear Itself: Wolverine #1

Two issues very similiar in one regard; and, a trend I'm seeing with the Fear Itself tie-ins. Quite a few are not really tied into the main event, except for a brief mention of the chaos happening around the globe. Wolverine is my favorite of these two, as a STRIKE team has stolen a super-helicarrier that Norman Osborn pimped up to the max. Then, in Uncanny X-Force, while not as good as Remender's book, it's still a solid first issue, as the team goes after some Purifiers.

Flashpoint: Secret Seven #2 & Flashpoint: World Of Flashpoint #2

Not as good as the other two Flashpoint titles that came out this week; still, both entertained me. Secret Seven was more my favorite, especially with the return of Amethyst. (Too bad she's killed off in the end.) This issue jumps around a lot more than the first issue, as we meet quite a few members of the Secret Seven. Same thing happens with World Of Flashpoint, as Traci 13 tries to recruit people to assist her in stopping her father from killing millions of people in an attempt to destroy the Amazons and Atlanteans. This issue is more of a "see what other heroes are doing during Flashpoint;" as nobody wants to help her out, especially if it means helping either of those two groups. The only important points of the book is the beginning (with the death of Xanadu) and the end (with her discovering her own father is using magic).

DC Universe Online Legends #11

This title picks up again, as we see Lois (and others at the Daily Planet) gain superpowers; and, in the end, Lex Luthor discovers Superman is Clark Kent. The downside, of course, is this storyline has zero relevance to the real DCU. It's just a real, long What If? story.

X-Men #14

This storyline continues to impress me; but, not as much as the first couple chapters. I find myself drawn to the glimpses of what happened in the past, and more bored with what's happening in the current. Sure, it's some retcon; but, for some reason, I'm not minding it as much as other times. (Namely, Deadly Genesis.)

 comics!

Uncanny X-Men #540

HUGE step back for this title. Not only do we get Land's art, but I thought the plot was awful too, especially the scenes between Cyclops and the mayor.

Astonishing Thor #5

Yeah, not as bad as Fraction's Thor; but, still, stories involving Ego (and, now his brother, Alter Ego) just suck. Alter Ego now exists as a moon to Ego.

Claws II #1

Talk about a book coming out waaay too late. Does anyone remember what happened in the original, because I think must of the story deals with that original story. The whole issue felt mediocre at best, and this version of Black Cat and Wolverine have zero chemistry.

I vaguely recall it having something to do with Arcade and White Rabbit, but I didn't like Claws at all, from the story to the art. The characterizations also made it feel like an alternate universe book rather than a 616...which I'm STILL not sure was even the intention.
