Action-Adventure Bourne 6

I’m down for a new Bourne. I havent seen the fifth film since theaters but i remember enjoying it and thinking it provided a pretty solid ending for the character. But im down to see Damon throw down one last time.

They need to call it Still Bourne. Please. I’ll buy my ticket right now.

I don't see why Damon can't continue to play Bourne, for another 15 to 20 years. The character in the books was active into his 60s or later, so there's no reason the films can't do the same...especially with great stunt performers and CGI these days.

I have such a love-hate relationship with these films. I loved the first one, but really didn't care for the sequels and hated how Hollywood copied the shaky cam for every action movie ever made after this. :argh:

I didn't hate 5, but it's been a while since I watched any of them. The first movie is still the best IMO.

Supremacy and Ultimatum is where the real value of the franchise is imo.

Yeah Identity is great but Greengrass did a phenomenal job in the sequels, especially Ultimatum (frankly I even enjoy Jason Bourne with all its issues). It's no more his fault that everyone copied the shaky cam technique in a much ****tier way ever since, than it is the Wachowskis' fault that The Matrix was the birthplace of mainstream slomo that has been done to death*. He really did know how to utilize it in an effective way without taking away from the action.

*For that we can all blame Snyder. :o

I always found Ultimatum vastly over rated myself. I found the ending wholly unsatisfying with the big revelation being he volunteered for the program. This was pretty evident in the previous movies IMO.

Identity is still the best for me, but Supremecy has grown on me over the years.

The only real bad one was Legacy. It's supposed to be a spin-off but the box set counts it as movie #4 for some reason. And even then, it fails as a spin-off. Nothing much happens for most of the movie, the action we do get is sadly weaksause, and it spends most of the time set during the end of Ultimatum before suddenly undoing all the results of that movie's ending just to write Joan Allen's chracter out from future sequels.

Utterly pathetic.

I didn't like what they did with Parsons in the last film. kinda ruined the whole series for me tbh.

Supremacy and Ultimatum are prime examples of how you should use shaky cam, if you absolutely have to. Those movies work because the character is in constant movement, in constant urgency. The camera operates in a way that is a reflection of that. It's a wonderful tool to keep you energetic like the character. I think Jason Bourne didn't work because it lost some of the momentum from those sequels.

As much as I like the original trilogy, I’ve always found the “twists and revelations” to be kinda weak and obvious. Like in the first one, the big “surprise” is that Bourne didn’t kill the one dude because his kid was sitting in his lap. Great, but like, that’s it? And yeah; Bourne volunteering in Ultimatum was kind of like, “Well, yeah, duh.” I think probably the most shocking part of Bourne’s story was the revelation at the end of Supremacy that he killed that one woman’s parents. That was actually a gutsy move for the movie to take because it makes you truly see how depraved he had become when he was doing his thing and it makes you question whether you can still root for him.

Still though, I feel like this series has been a bit too light on intrigue for spy films. I respect that they aren’t trying to be James Bond and he’s not fighting madmen who are trying to take over the world but it just seems like every movie, he’s just fighting more guys trying to cover up the Treadstone project again. Give us some more compelling antagonists with some different motivations.

See I didn't mind the 'twist' in the first movie as it gave Bourne some humanity. It helped us believe he is a sympathetic character.

The Ultimatum 'twist' was 3 movies worth of build up to find out something we already knew and that's why it was such a let down.

I agree on Supremacy though, it took me a while to come around on the movie but that ending is definitely ballsy and it has the best car chase in the franchise.

Well, this is what happens when they don’t really bother to wrap up the story.

What will this mean for that awesome stunt show in Universal Orlando?
