Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

There was never a doubt in my mind. I said it as soon as it came out. $ 288 to $ 290 on a $ 130 budget, plus DVD, plus cable, plus toys, and product tie ins. There's no way it's not profitable. And like you pointed out, Fox would not throw their rights away. Writers strike is on. Get ready for reruns. :csad:

What toys, I didn't anything, anywhere....

There were toys but they didn't sell well so close to Transformers and other big films...as expected.

Honestly, I shop weekly at Target, and I never say one thing, whereas last time, they were all over the place. I have 7 books from the first movie, one from this movie.

Oh wait, yes I did see a toy, I saw a Thing costume, but it was actually simply from the first movie, left over.

I wouldn't vote for HR if my life depended on it. :cwink: So me thinks I will send in a protest vote, and not vote.

Yeah, Carp....ya got me....

I'm sure Hunter will cry himself to sleep tonight....

I seen Plenty of FF2 stuff at walmart. I got a few action figs there. I got the Invisible Woman Which you know are hard as hell to get plus a Doom one cause i didn't get one from the first one.

Thats weird JAL, because I remember you constantly saying how you couldn't find anything at Wal-mart....you've never mentioned that you found those things until now.

Yeah they were a little late getting stuff in. they got the stuff in the week of the FF extended Dvd for the first film. I bought the figures and the dvd in the same day. I think they just put out the figures thats how i got the IW one.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Don't say there won't bw a FF3!!!!!!!!

Why would you say such a thing!?

They are thinking realistically. The film was bad,and it might hurt to say it.But it's true,i've been saying it all along.Blame the movie makers for not making the FF the franchise it could have been.

No they're not using their brains.

Fox got the rights to the Fantastic Four extremely cheap. No matter how much you think Fantastic Four is a failure...it's one of Fox's most lucrative franchises behind only X-Men. Now it did not make as much as the first one probably because the first one was mediocre and left a bad taste for many people. The second one was quite an improvement however it also faced massive competition on all sides.

In either case FOX will NEVER give up the rights. The only way to hold onto them is to make more Fantastic Four or Spin-Off films every 3.5-4 years. There's no way around it. You'd have to be a complete moron to believe they'll just hand the rights back to Marvel when they can make a fortune off it...even in it's current state. I imagine they could go to spin-off's and then reboot the franchise in 8-10 years.

Also YOU say the film was bad. Others liked it. It's a matter of taste.

That's what I think they will do with the X-men movies too....After the spin-offs, they'll do a reboot in 10 years from now.

But if what you say is true, about them having to make one every 3-4 years, dont you think we should have heard more by now? The strike is now active, so that will set any movie back by almost a year, they are cutting it extremely close IMO.

We have. They hired a scribe for the Silver Surfer film. No word on FF3 yet but we have been hearing the same chatter from Alba after part 2 as we did after part 1. This film doesn't take long to make once it starts. The strike is slowing everything down.

Yeah, the chatter from Alba right now is.....she doesn't plan on making anymore blockbusters....what does that tell you.

Well she also said she can't wait for part 3 and she wants to have a baby in it. Franklin.

Just because an actor chats about a movie being made doesnt mean it will happen, hell Eric Bana talked for years about what he would like to see in Hulk, and now he isnt even involved in a new Hulk movie.

Actors arent the ones who greenlight sequels, the studio are, and they have said nothing, its virtually the same with SS.

Your quote is from the week of promotion for the 2nd film, and only repeated in other venues from those interviews.

Mine is from last week.

I have a feeling she has enjoyed the smaller movies because she bears the brunt of most of the promotion from the bigger movies. That has to get tiring, along with having the money people breathing down your neck, fanboys *****ing about every detail, and promoting non-stop for almost a month....probably gets extremely annoying. So honestly, I don't blame her for not wanting to do this type of movie anymore.

^ What she says doesn't matter. If Fox does an FF3 and wants here in it...she's bound by a contract. She'll be there. If Fox doesn't want to bother with FF3 and just go the SS route (which will be cool but probably not as profitable) then so be it. Jess has no choice in the matter.

That wasn't Eric's choice. Marvel didn't want him back after they got the rights. They never even called him. That's a different scenerio. If he was under contract and Marvel wanted him...he'd have no choice.

Fox got the rights?Well i can guess they will keep it,until time forces them to give it up or something like that.I say a SS movie would be made,i think people are tired of the FF.Did Marvel give Fox the rights to the film if the first movie was not that good?If so,i think Fox as the rights then as a result.

I said the movie was bad,who else?A few million others?Who liked it?A few thousand others.Numbers don't lie.:woot:

There were not a few million others who said the movie was bad but even if there was...so what. There's 5+ billion people on the planet. There's enough room for studios to make movies for all of us. You're not expected to like everything.

That's not what I'm saying....and why is it when you quote her, it does matter, and when I quote her you say "it doesn't matter"....lmao.

So when she says "I want to be a mom with Franklin in the movie" it matters....but when I quote..."She doesn't want to do any more blockbusters"....it doesn't? hmmmm....

What I meant by stating that quote is....

1. It is more recent...
2. I don't think she would be even mentioning her desires in that regard, IF she was indeed DOING another blockbuster.....

As in, she is free to speak in those terms, because she is not doing an FF3.

Exactly, Alba hasnt said anything until just after 2nd movie came out, and in any case, she isnt the authority on what Fox does with their projects.
