Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

Well, quite obviously, 50% Hispanic is not 100% Hispanic, so she can quite rightly claim she is not 'latina.' Just as 50% black is not black, and 50% white is not white.

How about we are all members of the human race. That works. :woot:

I hope it is, because I like her...but not that statement.

It was about her grandfather bringing up his family to be Americans first, she's a 3rd generation American....and thats what she feels she is....

I don't see it being able to hit 10 mil this weekend......

What the heck are we talking about ? What's wroung with her statement ? Me thinks someone has issues. I'm an American 1st, and dame proud of it.

I didn't say she should claim to be 100% Latina and shout it out windows even the 50%, just don't hide/deny/be a shamed of the 50% that is Latina. :cwink:

Senile old coot. :D

For the weekend, I don't either.

I'm a American with Mexican parents, so there you go.

I don't think she is 'ashamed' or hiding it, but it's obviously not how she defines herself. She probably doesn't want to be pigeonholed or typecast or boxed into certain perceptions/roles/cultural criteria - and good for her! You sound like you're expecting her to behave in a certain way because of her parentage or roots, but she doesn't have to do so.

As an observation, I know America is a little obsessed with cultural identity and roots. Perhaps, as it's such a young country, people need deeper spiritual connections. The Americans I've encountered never describe themselves as 'American', it's always something else like 'Ukrainian' or 'Romanian Jewish' or 'Italian'.

The British actress Helena Bonham Carter has a British father and a mother whose roots are Spanish, Jewish, American and French. Rather than describing herself as a British Spanish Jewish American French person, Bonham Carter is simply known by her nationality as a British (or English) actress. She acknowledges her background but doesn't carry it around like a designer label that needs to be flaunted.

Just for information purposes, FF had $ 122,931,780 domestic after 17 days. That means FF 2 needs $ 23,091,224 the next 6 days to keep pace. $ 3,848,537 average per day.

Well, we know that's not going to happen, but I just want to see it finish above Hulk. That would put it just below the first movie.

FF1 only had a 44% drop in week 3, where Hulk had a 56% drop in week3. It's gonna be tough with both Ratatouille and Die Hard, but I'm hoping it can stay above 10 million.

Thin ice man, thin ice.

I'm starting to think FF2 won't beat Hulk, It's still 30 million away. Plus, there's big competition.

I certainly hope so, because I think if it doesn't the only way we will get a sequel is if Marvel takes over, and they will probably throw the whole cast out and start over. I'm not sure anybody wants that.

Agree.

If this movie doesn't reach 140 million, at least. I think a reboot will be seriously considered by Marvel.

No it won't. Fox has the rights and if Fox doesn't continue to make them they'll lose the rights. They'll make part 3 and then go forward with Silver Surfer film and then Fox will probably renegotiate a new contract or recast.

I agree with AD.

Also, the movie should reach 140, if it doesn't there is still the global market and DVD's.

Nothing is dead, and no reboot is in sight right now.
