Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

I suspect it may happen the same way it did with Hulk, Marvel may end up having to use its own fund to finance the sequel and Fox will only distribute. And hopefully they`ll take the franchise in a new direction.

FF2 has made 115M as of now right? Thats good enough..Its so funny how this summer was proclaimed to become a record summer at the very beginning..So funny how things are turning out..People need to stop overhyping summer movies a lot..it ends up hurting the outcome in a very negative way..if things were left to unfold naturally instead of implemeting excessive advertising, coverage and excess hype ala Spiderman 3, Pirates 3 and all other major summer movies, things may have taken a different turn..I just want FF2 to make 130M domestically. I will be happy with that. Fox will make profit from its international numbers too so there is NOTHING to worry about. There is gonna be a FF3 for sure..its so obvious..Its gonna be a trilogy. Anyone who doesn't know that is quite naive..The reason FF2 is disappointing at the BO is because of the overcrowded summer and the symptom of "too much sequels"..FF2 is the last superhero sequel for the summer so obviously the public are quite tired of superheroes for now and are craving a new theme..This is all simple economics..Only ppl who understand the market place will get this situation..

There was indeed some overhyping of this summer, but don´t forget that FF2 opened a bit better than 1, so there was interest, the current numbers aren´t that great cuz of the major drops. It´s a similar situation to what happened to Hulk, and we know how long it took for a sequel to get in the works again.

Thats what I think will happen. I mean think about it, why would a 3rd FF film with story and company do any better than the 2nd film?? and the 2nd had the advantage of the surfer.

^Why would you think it won't? You have less evidence that FF3 will do less than FF2 than people who think FF3 will do better than the previous. This movie was loads better than FF1...everybody agrees with that. So FF3 more than likley will be better than FF2...I don't care if it doesn't make half a billion worldwide...as long as the movie is good. Story needs to heed some advice if he wants to continue to have the quality of these films rise. He reads these boards...maybe he will see some complaints.

well fox ain't given them 130 million again for a thrid film, the budget will be less IMO.

The problem is the international market. Transformers has changed the scenario: by now there is a sort of transformers mania all over the world, and nobody is interested in FF2 anymore....
I sincerely doubt that FF2 will do more than FF overseas.
A ww release date would have been the better solution :(

chaseter, a good movie is preferred over a large B.O. for me as well, but I doubt the studios look at it that way. Just look at S.R., the critics loved it, but it only made 400 mill W.W., so we still dont know for sure if there will be another with singer at the helm..(personally I care not if he stays or goes)

The bottom line is that the studios are in it to make money, and if they think they can have a better B.O. return with another director, then I bet they'll think about it, just like I would bet W.B. are thinking about it right now with singer.

Which might be the best thing that could happen. I don't think these movies have to cost so much. $130 million is whole season for a lot of sci-fi & action tv series.

Personally, I don't think there's any gnashing of teeth right now at Fox, at least not about the Fantastic Four franchise.

And the grand total for FF2 is going to be pretty healthy.

FF2 is realeasing overseas in August for many markets, after the HP threat. Transformers can't stand against HP, so I'm not sure what world-wide Transformer mania you're referring to? FF is tracking far better overseas thus far, and the movie is STILL on track to beat FF's intl tallies.

The budget isn't going to be $130...it's going to be more, and in less summer traffic, so your film doesn't get snuffed out. It's going to be VERY interesting to see what number Transformer post, because I HIGHLY doubt it holds up against Harry Potter very well, and Rat movie is going to chug chug chug to around $200 million. People are talking $300 million for Transformer and I find that to be hilarious...so it's going to smash past HP...when the final book is out....and the Sandler movie....then the Simpson....then Bourne...then Rush Hour...

The budget didn't help smooth out some of the effects, and dropping it lower will practically kill the chances of seeing a really cool threat or improved effects in a third film. It's either "make a better movie" or "focus on other movies like Wolverine or X4". I think FOX will do what comes naturally and shun what doesn't make cash.

While I do think T.F. numbers well be great (225/250 dom.), I seriously doubt its gonna beat H.P.

Thats very optimistic there Ita..

114 million for FF2,with all the competition right now, I think the most it will end doing is 130 - 135. 15 million away of the first one. Too bad, because this one is a much better movie.

yes, it is better than the first. I wonder why people arent seeing it?? It's very perplexing.

I think it has to do with a number of people not enjoying the first so it put them off of this one. It sucks because this film was a lot better, and I bet if people gave it a second chance a number of them would leave having enjoyed it.

well, I almost didnt see the second one because of the first, but I decided to give it a chance, so what you guys say, makes sense.

FF2 worst enemy, was not, Evan Allmighty, 1408, or Ratatouille. FF2 worst enemy was FF1. IMO.

Its a shame. this film shoulda made at least 170 mill dom. instead it looks like it will do 130 or so.
