Of course potter will open its a well established franchise. The last potter to get 300 million was the first one and that was a winter release. Harry potter movies do better in the winter. there is a lot of competion this summer. it will be front-loaded. transformers will have better legs. WOM for transformers is great and better than potters. look for transformers to win domestic but potter to win worldwide.

The only reason this HP may have legs is due to the IMAX 3D. Other than that, its pretty standard HP fare.

Oh...well, the book coming out next weekend might give it an extra boost as well, but not til maybe Saturday or Sunday because fans will be too busy reading the book on Friday.

No it won't. Potter's 6 day total won't match Transformer's 6 day total, and it'll be downhill from there. Potter, being the fifth sequel in it's franchise, is heavily front loaded like other sequels of this summer.

How Potter holds up should be interesting. I really think HP should've been released in the Fall (where it has been very succesfull), I dont think it is a very good summer blockbuster.

That and you got the average movie goer going "Hmm, Harry Potter 5, or Transformers 1"?

That's a good point? I think Potter will be the kind of film that ppl once see once. Most of the money will be made from parents taking there kids, and parents don't usually take their kids to see the same movie, over and over again.

I've seen TF 3 times already, and will see it again for the 4th time within the next week or two before snagging it on bootleg; which should hold me over until the dvd comes out.

If Transformer's performs at least as well as box office predictions are expecting it to for this weekend, it'll make over $34 million, or a 52% drop from last week. That is actually a pretty good hold for a 2 1/2 hour action movie that had already grossed $186 million domestically.

what are you talking about? when i was saying "harry heading for 38-42 million" or "harrys heading to 46-48 million" those are not predictions. Predictions are just guesses based on marketing and what you think will happen. Just to clarify these were MY predictions;

"Wednesday: 42.5 million
Thursday: 21.25 million -50%
Friday: 26.5 million +25%
Saturday: 30.0 + 10%
Sunday:22.3 -25%

Opening weekend: 78.8
5 day: 142.5 million

You were off by $3 million on thursday. Friday estimates puts it at $26.2 million. That puts it at $88,807,000 after 3 days, $4 million more the Transformers. If your saturday and sunday numbers adds up then it will be at $141.1 million after 5 days. That is about $7,9 million more then Transformers first five days.

That is an amazing hold for an action flick, and especially against Potter's first weekend. After next weekend Potter's pace will noticeably fall behind Transformers.
