Transformers is holding it's own. I'm impressed. I'm happy for Michael Bay most of all who get's too much flack for making fun movies.

I enjoyed the movie and I'm happy for Michael Bay too, but I still hope he doesn't direct the sequel. I'd rather Speilberg do it. Bay's constant cut-away action shots give me a headache in large doses, and tend to make things a little less "epic" - like the Prime vs. Megatron battle, which was 3 seconds here and there (very little continuous screen time).

You're dreaming if you think Spielberg would direct a sequel to a Bay film. It's like those people who want James Cameron to take over for Raimi in the Spider-Man series -- it will NEVER, EVER happen.

Raimi came back for 2 and 3 because the first was a universal smash hit AND critically acclaimed. He also stated over and over he'd only work with Toby and Kirsten. Transformers, on the other hand, is only a smash hit. Bay doesn't seem to develope the same friendship with his actors that Raimi does.

Since Spielberg was the executive producer for Transformers 1, I don't see why it's a complete stretch. Bay just might not want to do it or he may be tied up with something else. Believe me, the Paramount will not wait on Bay.

I'd put money on Transformers doing better in Japan than Harry Potter - and Potter made $150 million in Japan a few years ago. But as you said - we shall see!

That would be the freakin greatest move ever if Spielberg decided to direct the sequel! Bay did a good job on this first one.....but with Spielberg directing the sequel it would just give TF that extra storytelling that would push it to the next level.

I'm not trying to rain on anybodys parade but although I believe this movie has a good chance of outgrossing Potter in Japan, it doesn't have a chance in hell of beating it over all in international receipts and doesn't have a chance in hell at beating POTC3 internationally. Now personally I thinks it's going to have braging rights in the USA and thats a bit more important to the studios. So don't expect it to make over 600mil because it won't. Doesn't mean it's a disappointment or anything that just means the fanboys are getting to excited and always overestimate things even when they don't have to. The movie is a huge hit but it ain't beating Potter or Pirates overseas.

I think that, if you read over some of the past messages in this particular thread, you'll see that is general consensus of everyone. I've especially been saying over and over it'll be beat Potter domestically, but not internationally.

Dude. This is a non sequel movie. Nobody is expecting it to beat Potter and POTC3. They are both sequels. Now Transformers 2, yeah, I can see that out grossing POTC 3 and Potter as long as it is good. But aside from the last Potter book causing excitement to see the movie and the fact that it is a sequel, I have to agree TF will not beat it.
