Transformers Box Office Thread

Saw it twice yesterday [Now a tie of 7x, with The Phantom Menace].

I know I'm "crazy" :hyper:

Both showings here in Washington were still quite full.

What I enjoy, is the audience's reactions [they're always different].

Hope it makes 300 mill, by the end of this weekend. :cwink:

Any word on how it did in Japan over the weekend?

Terrible numbers in Japan.

5.3 million

No. 2 was DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures International's "Transformers," which drew an estimated $30 million from 6,118 screens in 53 territories. Overseas gross total to date for the action title is just shy of the $300-million mark ($296 million). " Transformers" opened in five territories, including Japan, where it finished No. 1 with an estimated $5.3 million from 616 locations.

Yeah i posted that on BOM ...i really dont understand why are they so low...i mean it's a all time smash in Korea,China and Malaysia and it almost bombs in Japan..go figure...i think the release date was bad...a month after the US release ,that was the case with X-Men last year they released it in september there and it did terribly.Anyway i hope it will pick up but we will see.

I did read there was a weather problem in the country.

I'm not worried. It's already done way more than anyone expected so I am happy with it.

Wow... I wish there was tracking for foreign countries because I'd like to know what the tracking WAS for Japan. That doesn't make sense but who knows...

Piracy most likely...by now most have seen it that way. I doubt those giant robot movie fans were going to wait 1 month to see the movie at the theaters when they had it at their fingertips. Don't forget, bootlegging is very popular over there (selling DVD on black market).

yeah but no bootleg copy can match the cinematic experince of transformers

Oh well, hopefully this teaches Dreamworks to do a near-simultaneous global release for Transformers 2! Usually that's a very effective way to deter piracy.

I definitely don't see a real, distinct advantage to doing a tiered release.

Example...SP3,released everywhere overseas at the same time. The result?140 more then SP2 135 more then SP1.

2 reasons for that:

1)It's fresh,it's not yesterday's news...lets say TF is in the cinemas in Japan in August but everywhere else in June and at the same time HP opens in August everywhere. What will the Japanese people watch? The movie that makes all the headlines.

2)Right now the movies come out on torrent after 1-2 days and in a month almost everyone that has or hasnt seen the movie has a pirated version and if you're not a fan(99% of the people aren't) you wont pay a ticket for a movie that you have already seen and the simultaneous global release helps avoid that.

In theory it's supposed to build hype and garner word of mouth across territories, but in reality, it only feeds piracy and makes people in later territories impatient enough to resort to it.

There was a Typhoon in Japan this weekend guys......

Looks like it, shame though. One of the better quality movies of the summer.

:woot: Erzengel, your avvy is hilarious!

Yeah, this summer has been a huge letdown for me as far as movies go. Spiderman 3 was terrible, HP5 was just flat out boring (I enjoyed the third anf fourth films much more), Shrek 3 was just plain awful. Rescue Dawn was so-so. Transformers, The Bourne Ultimatum, Pirates 3, and The Simpsons Movie were really the only good things all summer. And things arent looking so bright for the remaining summer movies, as The Invasion is already getting raped by critics, as well as are the other big future releases. 2007 has not been a very strong movie year, unfortunately. MY one remaining hope for good movies this year is Sweeney Todd in December. :ninja:

Personally, I think the July Movies (Transformers, Harry Potter, & Simpsons) outshined the May Movies (Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, At World's End).

You have to remember that Harry Potter, the 5th and from what I'm told 6th book, are more story driven and less actiony movies. Still I found 5 entertaining, mainly because I'm into the series.

that's fine with me... then we can all wait for the DVD :D

this movie was enough to move into strong consideration to go ahead and buy a next-gen DVD player! :)

I registered for both Blueray & HDDVD at Wal-Mart....Maybe I'll luck out. :o

Not very conducive to movie-going...ya think? (Not a response to F91, but to those disappointed in the current Japan numbers.)

It's awesome to see Transformers doing so amazing. Sequel!!!!!! =)
