Brett Ratner Directing Incredible Shrinking Man

Source: The Hollywood Reporter
April 18, 2008

Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment's remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man. Brian Grazer is producing the project, which has Eddie Murphy attached to star, says The Hollywood Reporter.

An updated version of the best-selling novel and 1957 sci-fi classic starring Grant Williams, "Man" is taking the comedic approach to the fantastical material, telling the story of a famous Las Vegas magician who is put under a spell that causes him to shrink. He must find a way to reverse the spell before he gets so small that he "disappears."

Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay for the project, which had previously seen Pete Segal and Keenen Ivory Wayans in the director's chair.

:oldrazz: Brett Ratner!? and Eddie Murphy!? this has got to be an award winner! :whatever: :hehe:

With Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant writing it could be pretty funny, Reno 911 is a great show so they can do comedy.

yea i'm glad they got good writers

^ hehe, like eddie murphy and brett ratner really need another comedy that will most like be pretty bad.

Why a spell? At least make it like the original and have it be a scientific thing. Damn.

Isn't Big Dave a tad bit similar with the size plot?

Anyway, Brett's been attached to a whole lot over the years. I don't think this will be one to make it to the screen. I'm more interested in the bank heist film Ratner is planning.

As soon as I read the title I rubbed my eyes, shook my head in denial and went: "Another Eddie Murphy film... If it is, this is the end of Ratner's career." And after reading the first post, low and behold Eddie Murphy is in fact the "Star" of the film.

They should just take the budget of the movie and just throw it in the streets. They're gonna lose it all anyways. FLOP.

I'm perfectly ok with this. If Ratner is attached to s***ty films, it keeps him away from films I actually care about.

What, is Ratner like the go to guy when other directors back out?

Hopefully this'll kill their careers.

You know there's a book right?

Guess who's the author.

You guys don't know who wrote the BOOK?

OMFG! the same author who wrote I AM LEGEND.

eddie murphy should stay away from anything sci fi at this point.

I love the original.

Not really excited about this bit of news. Wouldnt be surprised the film turns out to be on par with The Incredible Shrinking Woman. :o
