How do you know if you broke your tailbone or just bruised it? I took a tumble down our steps the other day and bounced on my butt a few times. I can still sit, and depending on how I sit my tailbone hurts a little. It's not excruciating by any means....but I'm not sure if I should go in and get it checked out or wait a few days first. And I did check out WebMD and a couple other medial sites, but they only talk about what can be done for a broken tailbone...not what the symptoms are.

Anyone have any advice?

Go to the doctor if it huts a few days from now or if you can't take the pain any longer.

It's not that hard to tell if something is broken. You wouldn't be sitting if it were.

If you're able to sit down, I doubt it's broken. Even a hairline fracture would have you jumping out of your skin and choking newborn infants to death with your bare hands.

Tail bone injuries suck. I messed mine up and it nagged me for 6 months. My mom broke her tailbone clean off and now she dosen't have one. Trust me, if you broke your tailbone you would know, it hurts SO much.

My aunt broke her tail bone and has had to use an inflatable donut to sit ever since. I think you're okay.

Not true. My sister was thrown off her horse and fractured her tailbone, and she could sit.

That's an awful lot of pain!! I'm not anywhere close to that. I'll give it a few days. If it gets worse or continues to hurt I'll go in. My Health Insurance sucks so I don't want to go in if I don't have to. Thanks for all the responses.

might be bruised. i injured mine before when a boy who was trying to start sumthing pushed me against a car. i had to sit and stand up really slowly cos it hurt tht bad

I fell off a horse a few years back, and my tailbone hurt for over 2 weeks.

You have my sympathy. :csad:

But you'll be just fine. :)
