Christian Bale's Batman riches
Mar 2, 2007, 13:30 GMT

Christian Bale loves playing Batman because it made him rich.

The 'Batman Begins' star, who will reprise his role as the caped crusader in 'The Dark Knight', confesses he was struggling to pay the bills before he landed the role.

Bale told America's GQ magazine: "I've found myself getting paid, and getting paid well—it's unbelievable. I never thought that was going to happen. Not long before I did Batman, I didn't work for a year-and-a-half. I was looking for things, just nothing was coming my way."

The 33-year-old actor even had his mortgage paid for by his agents when he was filming 'American Psycho' because he was so broke.

However, the actor wouldn't swap his unstable career for any other.

He said: "Nothing stays really constant and calm. Maybe I bring it on myself. I'm not sure. I have to admit I'm a little bit of a turbulence addict, because of growing up with it so much."

Bale struggles to understand people who plan out every detail of their lives.

He explained: "What makes me more nervous than anything is knowing exactly what's going to happen. Being with people who are all very polite and have planned lives and do things on schedule and life is going just perfectly for them - I can't deal with that."

As highly as Keaton speaks of playing Batman and it just being about playing the character, I liked that he wasn't afraid to say, "you know what? I got PAID!" He seems to live rather modestly for a celebrity, so he's probably still livin' off Batman money. He works when he feels like it, not because he needs to.

I can't fault Bale for being honest. It's not like he does nothing but talk about how rich playing Batman has made him. But let's face, he's makin' more coin now than he ever did. Those Newsies residual checks ain't what they used to be!

This has nothing to do with nothing about the article but I always thought it would be a good story line in BATMAN comics that Wayne Tech would have A hostlie take over by a reveal company and Bruce Wayne would be broke, at least for a while, and we see how he deals with being poor and how that would affect his function as being Batman.

Probably means he won't be in a fourth installment unless they pay him a gazillion

This is why I like Bale so much, he's an old school actor. Broke, takes chances, and doesnt stay in one place too long.:oldrazz:

this is ironic . . . it's like Bale's real life journey mimiced that of Bruce Wayne when he left Gotham . . . and returned to his riches which mirrors Bale's payday . . . but he remains true to the craft . . . paid well, but bringing justice to the craft of acting in the corrupt world of Hollywood . . .

^And I wasn't even stoned when I thought of that . . .

^well . . . maybe a lil :O

i had a wtf moment when i read the titel of the thread.. i feard that they wher going to make Bruce broke in the comics (basicly copying Green Arrow)
but thank GOD! this was about Bale :P

Great idea. His superheroism (cave, gadgets, cars) is so dependent on his wealth, how WOULD he cope without it?

He's not only getting paid for Batman though. B/c he did Batman, other roles have opened up for him....so, he's working regularly now.

I think that's what he really meant.

Hopefully, someday soon, we'll see actual TDK spoilers in the spoiler forum.

Wasn´t Bruce supposed to be poor in the Aronofsky/Miller Year One Script?

Y'know, years from now are gonna be talking about the TDK news drought and say,'Yeeeeeeep, dose were sum tough time i tell ya! Onetime it got so bad we had to talk about how Bale was gettin paid more! Yessir, that was the great news drought of 2007, but we hung on tight.'

Well this threw me out of my chair, thank you very much. My lawyer will contact you.

I'm glad he's getting paid good bucks. Good knows playing Batman is not his heart but at least he can afford to make other more interesting roles to him while still having money.
