they won't bring wolverine in and not do something with him, but to make him the time traveler just unnecessary

if FOX want to branch out on new characters for an avengers style universe then they can't make wolverine the be all and end all, but at same time he had a role in the comic so it makes sense to have him in this

Exactly. The plan is to expand the X-Men Universe. Can't do that if Wolverine does everything. And he wont, as this is still a FIRST CLASS sequel. I hope people can realize this.

Wolverine has his own movie to worry about, I'm pretty sure he's not gonna take over the FC sequel as someone might imagine.

    an offtopic question:

if this is the second topic about Bryan Singer, why is it called Part 1?

Ive always wondered that with superherohype topics, lol

Because Thread Manager is an evil being who can't count.

The first 'continued' thread is labelled 'Part 1' for some reason. It's just what it does.

seems like a nice reason. I'd preffer it as part 2, less confusing, but its not a big deal :cwink:

The most reasonable thing to do with the plot of this movie is to have an original trilogy character go back in time to the FC era, trying to fix the future, but instead just ends up creating a different timeline. The timeline that will be the future of the X-Men films. It's like a reboot but still not and would be a swan song for the original cast. That way they have way more freedom with the shared universe thing. It would be very much in line with the original story and follow ups.

The problem is The Wolverine though, as it seems to be the original timeline and yet Millar says it's the first step towards a new and bigger universe. Hmm...

Pretty much agreed. I think theres a couple different ways they can go about the time traveler or sending a warning to the past but yeah. Def the best way to pave the path for future films.

I'm just as confused trying to figure out where they are heading. I wonder if they'll erase the events of X-men 3 or tie back into it.

chances are it will tie into it, i mean if X3 gets erased then that means what ever continuity the wolverine has with X3 wont matter either as the events will have never accured in the new timeline thats created

This is exactly what I'm thinking and why it makes the decision to do DOFP so brilliant. The fact that this very important story was just sitting there for this purpose is amazing.

And the new FC universe really does need something to breathe life into it, in terms of commercial and mainstream success. I know that that kind of success is not what is important to fans, but it is ultimately what matters for the longevity of the franchise.

Haha true, but by then the movie will have come and gone and it won't be an issue. Actually, the whole first trilogy will be retconned... it's like an in-continuity reboot!

And really, after DOFP, Hugh can't possibly be planning on making any more, right??

Hugh has said before (and it's on the Wolverine blu-ray) that if it's clear the audience is tired of him doing the character, he has no problems hanging the claws up.

But...if it's also clear they continue to enjoy watching him and keep coming out for the movies, he'll continue to play the character.

And remember people, he's only 44-years-old. It's not like the man is 55 and embarassingly out of shape. :D

I wonder if we could go back to the 10,000 post limit. Or at least 5,000 post limit.

It's nice to see an actor who is enthused and excited about being in a comic book film.

I still wonder if they are gonna move DOFP's release date because if they don't, both of Ian McKellen's movies are opening in the same day/weekend and I don't know if Ian McKellen would have time to promote DOFP or at least attend the premiere night/s of the movie.
