Days of Future Past Bryan Singer Directing X-Men: Days of Future Past - Part 5

Was anyone confused when in IronMan 2 Tony Stark already knew Nick Fury and was chatting with him like it was no big deal at all going "huh? where'd he come from?"

No.....because people saw the IronMan after credits scene, just like everyone saw the Last Stand after credit scene. Even now when X3 comes on regular network television, the credits are forwarded to the scene so everyone and their mother has seen it my now.

But post-credit sequence still counts and its still part of the movie.

Yes, but my point is that they put a crucial detail into a sequence that most people would not have seen. Which means that Xavier's return from the dead requires an explanation in DoFP. So somehow they'll have to casually mention that a few years ago Xavier used his never-mentioned-before twin brother's body to come back. If they can make this sound not lame, all power to them.

I can't even fathom that people think it's a good idea. Just because Singer acknowledges X3 doesn't mean he has to be limited by its poor decisions. There are a million other ways to bring Xavier back in a movie about alternate timelines and futures.

It's not a good idea Mad Ones. However, a precedent has been set. It'd be foolish not to follow it at this point because the "comatose" man woke up and spoke to Moira and clearly it was Xavier's conciousness articulating itself. You can't just ignore that.

Audiences are not that dumb. Short memories? Yes. But not dumb. And many will rewatch X3 and First Class in advance again to get ready and caught up for DoFP.

What's the explanation scene going to look like in DoFP?

Xavier: Yeah, that guy Moira was taking care of was actually my identical twin brother and I took over his body. I don't care about his family or the ethics. I can walk now!
Storm: I thought Moira was in the CIA
Xavier: ...

I understand the conundrum. I guess I would rather fudge continuity in this case than live with the explanation haha.

Why not just introduce the "twin brother" backstory using McAvoy? He could be opening up to someone about his early life and his brother, the beginnings of his theory to transfer one mind to the other IN THE PAST, then in the next future scene reveal an alive and walking Xavier.

Mad Ones,

The only other alternative I can think of is keeping Xavier in the Astral Plane and calling it a day. Is that what you want?

I would be content. Obviously it's not perfect, but no matter what happens continuity is going to be fudged a little. Even if they follow the X3 after credits scene, Moira doesn't match up with First Class at all.

Actually the more I think about it, the more I like Xavier in the Astral Plane. Heck, throw in Jean while you're at it! #fanboydreams.

I'll agree that the execution may not have been great, but I find the idea of sending one's own consciousness to another person's body, and the ethical implications that come along with it fascinating. If they had done a proper X4 after X3, they could have dealt with this with a bit more depth than they might do in DOPF.

Eh, I still like my idea of him being a present form of subconscious, and that doesn't go against The Last Stand.

If Singer is really a good director, he should find a way to make it work. They shouldn't ditch it just because it sounds ridiculous. Its already part of the series, so they should just deal with it.

How many people will actually keep watching past the end credits though? I'd say the probability is even lower than when they watched it at the cinema.

Even if the casual viewers don't remember that scene, its still part of the movie. Just because its "not memorable" to casual viewers, it doesn't mean they should just ignore it and retcon it. Its lazy.

Either way, it's considered cannon for the films. Even if they don't watch the concluding credits, millions saw him evaporated at the hands of the Dark Phoneix. So having him just pop up in DoFP is going to require explanation anyway. If they ignore X3's after credits scene, then that will annoy and confuse the millions who DID see that scene. It's a "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" type situation.

They might as well start with the precedent they've already set as an existing standard.

Personally, Patrick Stewart's re-appearance to me felt like the strongest indication that the future was going to be set in an alternate universe unconnected to the OT. Until Singer confirmed that it is in fact set after X3. So now I've no idea how they're going to deal with it. To me it feels pretty certain that going with the twin scenario is going to make movie just that little bit more stupid, but maybe they're ok with that if it means that they can have Stewart back.

I am usually not very optimistic about superhero movies anymore and Fox and Sony have manged to ruin two of the greatest superhero franchises imo but dammit Singer directing and everyone coming back has got me really excited. I loved First Class but this movie just seems to have all the stars aligned and what could be the biggest and best superhero movie ever. I am very excited. I was excited for the Avengers but I love the X-Men more so I am setting my personal bar very high for this movie. COME ON SINGER!

I have a feeling this film has the potential of being the greatest superhero film ever! The concept of DOFP is much more ambiguous than the concept of the Avengers (alien invasion, lol) and I feel like there's gonna be more emotional attachment and depth to this one. So I hope Bryan Singer doesn't drop the ball again. He already dropped the ball when he decided to direct Superman over X3.

Agreed on all accounts!

Really looking forward to set pics leaking, now that filming commences tomorrow...

Ashmore, Stewart, McKellen, Lawrence, Paquin and Berry that I know of. Jackman is in NYC still but heading there soon. Cudmore is in LA and heading there in the next few days.
Doesn't True Blood usually film into the summer and wrap around the beginning of the season (in June)?

With Hugh, Halle, and (probably) Anna not in Montreal yet, I guess they're not going to start with the whole OT team right away.

Anna was back in LA as of this weekend, I believe.

He'll be fine. If not, we can administer CPR and bring him back.

Oh you. :awesome:

Also RE: the twin. It's not necessarily that fact that the twin exists that I dislike, but the following:

A) Epic ass-pull with no twin mentioned before.
B) A really cheap way of them allowing them to put in the unnecessary Xavier kill but getting out of it at the same time.
C) "Oh I'm dead lol jk I'm not. I'm in my comatose twin's body. He sounds identical to me too and shares every single wrinkle. You're looking great for a woman in her 60's, Moira!"

It's like a really bad Days of our Lives storyline!

Days of Our Future Past Lives.

Loving the new Charles costume, so different from previous movies, and so sci-fi, with a diry/futuristic vibe. I love it.

So, this Charles is presumably the one we see in the post-credit scene of X3? And he looks like he's not in his wheelchair. But then again, we saw the two wheelchairs for both versions of Xavier, so that's kinda weird.

One could be Magneto in the future as it was in the comic. And my god that outfit looks epic. So different and really our first taste of what the future scenes will look like
