Budget...Rising?!

well marvel sold the rights to the toyline for spider-man 3 for 70 million. If this movie is better than the last two and Venom looks extremely awesome, I predict the movie will make at least 800 million.

The truth is, a movie´s official budget is never the real budget, and you know what, the BO income is only a fraction of the money a movie makes...

You guys need to stop believing every piece of news about the budget. Theres still ppl who think Superman Returns has a 250 mil budget even after Singer said it was 185. Considering this article got both X3 (150) and Pirates 2 (180) wrong, I wouldnt put much stock in the 300 number.

True. Only the director and studio knows the real BUDGET of a film, and if they don't tell, people usually make up there own. Like Box Office Mojo.

Actually, only the director, producers, executive producers, and any other producer, AND the studio execs would know the budget.

And Sony's accountants. ;)

But either way, they don't usually give this info out, and that's where the guessing begins.

Well, supposedly the Wall Street Journal got this new info from the studio itself....whatever the heck that actually means, though.

I doubt that, studios don't give exact budgets to the public. It makes it too easy to compare production/marketing cost against the box office cume. They sometimes do it after the movie's success, when they know they've made a huge chunk of change, but Sony never did it for either Spidey movie, as I remember. Box Office Mojo pretty much made up both Spidey's movies production cost, and they now have Superman Returns at 250M, when it was said to be lower from Singer himself--so somebody's lying.:o

That's a nice breakdown, but it doesn't come from Sony, Marvel or Sam Raimi, which means it's not legit. I can do a breakdown on any given movie, just give me the cume, and I'm sure you can too...but it doesn't make it legit.

Um...it's pretty legit. I don't think they pulled those numbers out of thin air. Is it 100% accurate? Probably not. But that doesn't mean it's "not legit".

That's just it, only Sony can give you numbers that's legit, some are off by a 1M and some are off by 50M. Singer said Superman cost under 200M, Box Office Mojo has the budget at 250M. I'm sure Box Office Mojo didn't pull those numbers out of thin air, but I'm also sure it's not legit, because they have no way of actually knowing, unless the studio/director tells them--and even they could be lying making it lower. The best they can do is listen to rumored reports, and guess their asses off. Like the breakdown that you posted above.

Aw, but just about EVERYONE has the SM2 budget at $200 million (just like the breakdown). Maguire's salary has been posted as $17 million by nearly every source, and so on.

We won't know anything "official" about the SM3 budget until after the film is completed, because the number is going to keep changing until then.

With worldwide cume, DVDs and merchandising...they've already made billions. Sony/Marvel get upfront fees (see HASBRO deal) from licensees before the film is even completed, and the Spider-Man franchise has 100s of licensees, SM3 is already paid for. Sony probably pays very little to nothing of the production budget, the licensees are basically paying the bulk of it. This is what happens when you have a franchise that everyone wants to be apart of.

With that in mind, the studio could at least give us a movie that actually looks as though they broke the bank to make these movies. I dont understand why people regard returns on such a high level for these movies, imo there's major cause for concern for the amount of money put in which in turn should reflect the quality of these movies and imo there is nothing to suggest that more than $150milion was put into either movie because the quality does very little to support it.

Everyone...isn't Sony.

Yes, the numbers will keep changing, and in the end, we still won't know what they are...unless Sony says so, which they won't. Few studios, if any, gives the public the budget for their big/event movies.

There is no major concerns, if YOU feel the movie(s) or any movie is not up to your standards, you have a choice not to see or continue to see them, not to talk about them, ignore them altogether. Your problem is easy to solve, I guess the next move would be yours.' ;)

Just because I feel the movies aren't upto scratch doesn't mean I should abandon the hope of better sequels or stop myself from discussing the state that their in. If anything, I have a lot more to say about these movies than another who thinks these movies are the best thing since chuck freakin' norris:o  ;)
Its like reading the comics. So many current spidey stories released within say, the last 7 years and the majority of them have been pure over-hyped bs but that doesn't deter me from reading spidey comics or discussing them.
In a sad way I suppose, I have great pleasufre in not having high expectations for sm3 and it'll go either 2 ways, 1. I'm impressed and Raimi's done a brilliant job (which probably wont happen) or 2. Raimi delivers his same old crappy formula and my low expectations come true to form.

So, basically, if the comic books are not up to your standards...you still buy them. If the movies are not up to your standards...you still go see them. Can you say...CONSUMER ****E? ;)

Raimi said it's north of 250 mill.

Well, lets be honest. If none of us went to any movie or read any comic book that didn't conform to our veiw of the characters, none of us would ever read a comic book or watch a movie, and that would just suck.

I for one will not be paying to see any more comic book films with maybe only 1 exception.

what is that one exception?

There's always a glimmer of hope that things will get better and regarding the comics this is sometimes the case. I'm a fan of the character of spider-man but I'm no consumer ****e. I've never bought the spidey movies on dvd and I sure as hell dont buy all that merchandising crap. The games and comics are the only things I'll buy.
