For those wondering, my resignation letter. I CC'd it to everyone at my station, and the coprorate owner.
Carl,
I hate that you see my recent actions as justification to cut back my hours on Friday nights.
It's because of this that I'm quitting. I just can't do it any longer, and this final act was the straw that broke the camels back.
You often talk about respect that you give to all of us, but in the 14 months that I have worked with you, I have rarely seen you give back the respect that you feel that you have earned.
Knowing full well what kind of situation that I am in, you take the opportunity to threaten me with unemployment at least three times in the two months since I've had my hours cut.
These threats don't inspire me to work harder, they just show me that you have no loyalty to people when they make mistakes, as everyone does from time to time.
Now as I said last year, much to your chagrin, you're a boss. It's your job to be a dick. But your tactics did not earn my respect or loyalty.
You talked about how I was unwilling to do things for you, mostly because I know they would not get appreciated. In the 14 months I've worked with you, you've maybe given me a straight up compliment three times. You can never say anything without adding that "but you should do this" to me, that type of micro management doesn't work and I never saw you as anything but a man who would throw his employees under the bus just to save himself, and you wonder why you didn't earn my respect and loyalty.
In my two years, I loved working with Lori, Ron, David, Jennifer, Theresa, Jon, Opal, David Lovinggood, and Sean. Everyone except you. Best of luck running the station into the ground.
My key is in the drop box outside.
Love,
Matt Johnson
