Burned Out With Comic Movie Genre

Next year, if I could only see one movie in the theaters it's Star Wars. 2nd movie would be Avengers. After that it's a dropoff to Ant Man which I would be seeing just cause it's a MCU. The rest would be very dependent on the quality and if they were mediocre, would wait until Netflix.

The thing is. The studios have decided that people are only going to the cinema to see mega blockbusters, comedies (especially rom coms) or low risk budget indie films.

If you are going to make a mega block buster. You do it with something that you think will work. Or has worked in the past.

Same here, although I switch Avengers 2 and Star Wars.

Jurassic Park - Never saw the 3rd one.
Mission Impossible - Not a huge Tom Cruise fan
James Bond - I like the Daniel Craig movies, but I'm not going to be upset if I miss it.
Terminator - The last 2 ones were let downs. However, Salvation had me until the ridiculous ending.

That is a huge debate. Certainly one I can't answer.

Iron Man or Luke?
Hulk or Chewie?

I'll just watch both.

Definitely Luke and Hulk for me. If Star Wars was coming off a successful 1st film it could be different. No question of not watching both, they are the only absolutely must see films for me next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if WB launched The Lord of the Rings Expanded Universe.

Are they allowed?

They only have the rights to LotR, Hobbit and their appendices. So whatever they can get out of that. And Tolkien's heirs seem to hate what they've done with the last few movies (as do I, incidentally), so they probably won't sell any more.

EpVII is my most anticipated movie... ever. In my number two spot for next year is AoU, followed closely by JW.

Planet of the Apes 3?

Added, thanks. :yay:

I did remember Power Rangers today! And I knew there was another Fox/Marvel movie somewhere, but forgot where. As for the others... I don't care about them, so that explains that. :p

You'll only watch 2 movies in 2020? Planning on dating an Amish girl?

2016 - Bourne 5 (or 4 for those of us who want to forget about Legacy)

Damon + Greengrass + No Aaron Cross :applaud

In general, I'm not burned out. I'm pretty burned out on Marvel Studios though at this point.

Wow. Can you go into more detail?

There's not enough in that universe that I really like to make it interesting to me. I loved Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3, I really like Iron Man and I like The First Avenger and Guardians of the Galaxy decently enough though they're not great, imo. The rest though I feel range from bland and meh (both Thor movies, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk) to awful (The Avengers). And as such, I just don't have much interest going forward outside of Captain America 3 so far. When, for me, it's got at best a 50% success rate, it's hard to have much interest. On top of that, I can't put my finger on it, but something about just that universe in general feels stale to me. I'll probably be taken to Avengers 2 by someone and maybe Ant-Man, but if I wasn't I'd probably just skip them and watch them when they hit rental places like I was going to do with Guardians until someone brought me along. And I used to be really excited about this universe, so that's really disappointing to me.

Aaaand added. I don't see confirming that it will be the new Damon/Greengrass movie and not Renner's follow-up, but either way, it will indeed be the fifth instalment of the Bourne franchise.

With GoTG being the smash hit it was and AoU looking to be the awesome blockbuster we hope it will be, I'm not burned out.

I am burned out on bad CBM's being made. I think WB just contributed to the cynicism in a big way with announcing a huge slate of films at their stockholder meeting, and nothing at Comic Con. Fantastic Four again looks like it's just fishing for money and so is Sinister Six from Sony.

I'm not looking forward to BvS, but they may surprise me.

Hit the nail on the head.
With studios now flooding the market with superhero films in response to how much success Marvel has had, it will take a toll on the genre and drag everyone else down with it.
And I did not know about the shareholders thing, that is interesting.

Yeah, I think that WB is panicked right now, not because of superhero films, but that they've lost market share, and their successful relationship with Syncopy and Legendary have now partnered with Paramount and Universal respectively.

I think the announcement was more to show what they have coming up the pipe than to really suggest that they are going to be some kind of juggernaut in superhero movies. If BvS bombs, or even disappoints that's going to put a damper on future movie plans.
