I assume that's just a very rough draft and what they want them to look like aesthetically. I hope Cameron adds some features that make them look not like guys in Tron suits.

thanx matrix_ghost. i'm gonna need to see a better picture before i make my decision if i like it or not....i feel indifferent about that pic. the idea could be interesting but the execution looks crappy (probably because the picture quality).

I think so too.
It's a very low quality image. Who knows maybe this is a screencap from the early shots.
This is something that Cameron said in one of his interviews :

On Avatar, we're working on-stage at a reality level equal to an '80s video game. At the end of the day, after a year and a half of post production, the images seen by audiences will be 100% photo-real, i.e. indistinguishable from photography. But for our day-to-day shooting, the image can be improved a lot.

Besides there are certain images in this workbooth that do look more realistic. I'm not talking about the pics of Weaver

titanic.....my dear lord did this look good. the scope was amazing.

cameron will do this. he & co. will again make something groundbreaking.

My guess:

Live action+CGI+3D=The Aviator.

The humans will be played by actors. The Aliens will be played by actors but similar technology that made Gollum and Davvy Jones, but much more advanced.

WETA are working on it. They are creating a whole planet with its own ecosystem. There are mountains in the sky, plants, trees etc.

Its going to be amazing.

human characters and some earth related stuff = live action (judging from what previous reports say, it sounds like maybe 10 percent of the movie)

aliens, alien planet, futuristic earth related stuff = cgi




most of the movie will be cgi, ala 300 and Sin City except not as stylized (more realistic).

I tihnk this film has the ability to revolution movies the way Star Wars did in 77. Before the release of Star Wars film was going through a drout. There was very little creativity and not many original ideas (very similare to today) Then Star Wars was released and it lead to a whole new generatino of creative film-makers with original ideas.

Not saying this film will do that, just saying it has the ability.
