i think htey are hyping the CGI to much.
he said that we see now level 1 and in 2009 we will get level 20.
And that is a problem because.....
I don't think it's hype if it isn't that far from the truth. Cameron himself has said in interviews ( click back a few pages) that right now the image quality is comparable to the grahics of 80's game.
WHen the movie is released he's confident enough to claim photorealism.
Of course we are the ones the judge to realism but the fact that both Spielberg and Pete Jackson are interested in his technology supports his claim.
My guess is that one of the main reasons why Spielberg and Jackson are interested in this technology is because of their Tin Tin movie(s).
They have said that they will make the Tin Tin Movies animated but the level of realism is photoreal. And WETA is gonna be responsible for the animation.
With Avatar WETA was the VFX studio that collaborates with James Cameron . It's Cameron's technology that they're using. Cameron says that he can achieve photorealism and said that SPielberg and Jackson were interested and have visited the set to get a hands on impression.
Fast forward a couple of months later and they make an announcement of the animated Tin Tin Movies with photoreal characters.
Coicidence.....
I think not
