Anyone know of any? I'm not talking Sherlock or some sort of FBI movie...I mean the classic stuff with guys in trench coats and fedoras...1930s/40s/50s type of thing.

what's the purpose? you just want to watch a good one, or are you doing some kind of study?

Just want to watch one. That sort of thing appeals to me.

Wrong forum, I think.

Anyway, off the top of my head, check out Laura and The Big Sleep.

Brick...it's a 1920/30's detective movie set in modern day LA high school

I'd say Who Framed Roger Rabbit as well. I know it's more of a send-up of the whole genre than a legit film noir detective story, but it manages to incorporate most of the essentials of the genre. Plus it's the greatest animated movie ever.

Probably not quite what you're looking for but...

"Clue" :up:

Ultraviolet is a good detective movie, trying to figure out the story is damn near impossible.

lol@different people. I was wondering who had recommended those. :o

I'm a little late, but I was gonna say Maltese Falcon too . . . anything with Bogart should be up your alley I'd recon

Go watch the Maltese Falcon. You'll love it, if you're looking for a vintage detective flick.

edit: didn't see what DV8 put until I posted, but I second it nonetheless. It's a great film.

Yeah. Bogart was briliant at Film-Noir detectives, even in non-Detective movies. You may even like Casablanca and To Have and Have Not just for the character.

Not really a movie and not really vintage, but Veronica Mars Season 1 on DVD is awesome

The film versions of 'The Hounds of Baskerville' [Christopher Lee is amazing in that film].

Also, if you like mystery, suspenseful thrillers aren't that much of a leap, so I'd suggest 'The French Connection' also.

I think he's looking for something noirish... "30s, 40s, 50s, fedoras"...

Another good one. The sequel's a good view also.
I thought The Two Jakes was a little convoluted but definitely watchable. Chinatown is probably my fave detective flick though, and I couldn't help but compare it to the original.

Another good modern genre offering: Devil in a Blue Dress w/Denzel.
