Can someone explain why Will Smith has lost a lot of his popularity?

In the mid-nineties Will Smith became THE summer action move guy. He had Bad Boys, then Men in Black, then Independence Day (and you could throw in Enemy of the State although I don't think that was a summer flick). Then Wild Wild West happened. Sort of killed his momentum.

But personally I've always liked him; he's had hits and misses over the years since, but that's normal for most actors. So I think it's more of a perception thing -- he was at the top so there was nowhere to go but down, but it doesn't mean he's fallen to the C-list.

I don't understand this thread at all, he's looking like he might make a run at an Oscar nomination with Concussion.

Hollywood was built on nepotism :o

Nepotism isn't just in Hollywood. Plenty of people use family connections to secure them a job, internship and so on. Ideally no one should just be handed stuff on a silver planter but using connections to get their foot in the door is pretty common.

If you're in the industry and have another relative in it people automatically assume one of you helped the other.

The thread is about the public perception of him that has dwindled and his loss of popularity with growing negativity, towards him on a broader scale with general public.

he's a homophobic Xenu-worshipper who spawned awful children that he pushes down our throats and I don't think he made a good movie since Ali.

Not really. He supports gay marriage. The public may be tired of the kids now, but they are the ones who were wanting to see more of them in the first place. As for after Ali: Hitch, IROBOT, I Am Legend, and TPOH, were all at least pretty good to me. Still trying to figure out a good reason for the sharp decline in popularity. It's rather staggering

Dear Will Smith just do a Wild Wild West sequel already .... might as well.... should up the price of all those old 1999 burger king toys I still have stashed away... :o

What's wrong with his kids?

From what I have seen....most articles about them talk about them being flaky....as in acting weird.

I wanna see how you react to some random person trying to slip you the tongue.

That's the breaks.

In Europe, a kiss on the cheeks is a normal greeting. While the guy was a prankster, Smith didn't need to hit him. That's what bodyguards for. While people in general feel Smith acted accordingly, it wasn't a smart move as evidenced by the PR backlash for it.

The same guy also put his head in America Ferrera's dress on the red carpet. So I guess he swings both ways.

I don't know about whole EU but in France, men only kiss on cheeks if they know each other very well or are related. It is not a normal greetings.

He is Ukranian and I don't know if the kissing people as a greeting is done there or not.

They aren't committing crimes or something. So what if they aren't fitting the mold and figuring out who they are  Yeah it is a different situation for them with a well known famous father and money, who knows how people would grow up in that. Opportunities to get what you want that early in life, and the way teens think they know everything already?????? Of course it make take some added developmental time. Come on people

This is a crime on my eyes and ears.

Like I said, he's full of himself and has said some dumb teen things. Only difference is he has a super famous Dad, making him well known in the process. Dumb teens everyday making tweets that hardly get read by anyone and thus ignored for their stupidity. Jaden says something and it gets traction. What's the big deal?

I liked Hitch and I Robot.
:csad:
What's wrong with that?

Btw, they may not be a typical personality but I enjoyed this interview with them and didn't find them super "weird"

Thought they came off well there. meh - guess I got to learn to hate or something :o

Seems like when After Earth came he just sort of crashed and burned. Will has been going strong in cinema for twenty years now. It don't last forever. People used to go see his films no matter what it was now people are a lot more hesitant. Just heavily depends on the film. We will see how people respond to his Deadshot.

You don't have to commit a crime to be a flake, an idiot, an ahole.....
So what if they aren't fitting the mold and figuring out who they are
If you are going to continuously make stupid posts or comments to the press....then the adults in charge need to take the bull by the horns and shut them up. It's called being a responsible parent.
Yeah it is a different situation for them with a well known famous father and money, who knows how people would grow up in that.
It depends upon the parents....some famous parents teach their kids to not be stupid in their actions.
Opportunities to get what you want that early in life,
Famous story about Ron Howard's brother Clint Howard. He was appearing in the original STAR TREK series episode The Corbomite Maneuver.....he was supposed to drink some funny colored stuff in a scene...he complained to his father that it tasted funny, and he wanted it changed to something else. His father Rance Howard, who was on set with him, told him....if you want to be an actor, act like it tastes good.

There are no bad reports of Clint or Ron acting like jerks as kids.
and the way teens think they know everything already??????
That's why they need to be repeatedly told that they don't.
Of course it make take some added developmental time.
Or a parent starting when they are young instead of waiting to they get a big head.
Come on people
I say that all the time.

The problem is that the things coming out of Jaden's mouth are not your normal "stupid teenager BS". The stuff he's saying is cray cray.

wow, Smith's kid has some seriously major mental malfunctions...

Will Smith's has an oldest son Trey stays out of the limelight and lives a normal life these days. Perhaps Will's younger kids may do the same when they are older. I don't blame them for wanting to act or sing if the opportunity is given to them.
I don't know about whole EU but in France, men only kiss on cheeks if they know each other very well or are related. It is not a normal greetings.

Kissing guys on the cheek is not a normal greeting in the UK. A handshake, fist bump or that one handed bro half hug thing is how guys greet each other.
