The Messengers caught my interest.

A few post back about actors in high demand for pilots. House as Red in the Blacklist? :wow:
The number one criminal on that list would've been Lupus.

I could totally see Laurie in the role, despite how perfect Spader is in it. So at least they were making good choices in actors.

Knighton, repped by UTA, 3 Arts and James Adams, will play one of them, Stosh, a whip-smart and rakishly handsome sales rep with a cynical edge, an inveterate womanizer whose knee-jerk seductions always have him in hot water, like getting fired for sleeping with his boss’ fiancee. He and Eliza Coupe already have booked series (USA’s Benched for Coupe), Casey Wilson is starring in NBC comedy pilot Marry Me, with the rest, including Adam pally and Damon Wayans Jr. still heavily pursued.

FX has found its man for comedy pilot Man Seeking Woman, from Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. Undeclared alum Jay Baruchel has signed on for the lead role in the project based on Simon Rich’s book, The Last Girlfriend on Earth, Man Seeking Woman. Described as a sweet and absurd look at the life-and-death stakes of dating, Man Seeking Woman centers on Josh Greenberg (Baruchel), a naive romantic on a desperate quest for love. When his longtime girlfriend dumps him, Josh enters the dating scene, a nightmarish hellscape of untold horror. Despite the agony, Josh continues his search in the hopes of finding someone who will make all the misery worth it. Jonathan Krisel will direct the pilot from a script by Rich. FX Prods. is producing, with filming slated for spring in Toronto, a rare comedy pilot shoot north of the border. Sarah Snook Lands Lead In ABC Drama Pilot ‘Clementine’ From Mark Gordon Co.
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Here is the first major discovery of 2014 pilot season. Young Australian actress Sarah Snook has been cast in the title role of ABC‘s drama pilot Clementine, from the Mark Gordon Co. and ABC Studios. Written by feature scribe Dean Georgaris, Clementine centers on troubled 28-year-old psychic Clementine Ross (Snook) who sees her life begin to change in unexpected ways when she decides to stop running from her past. David Strathairn was recently cast as her father. Mark Gordon Co.’s Gordon and Nicholas Pepper exec produce with Ilene Staple.

This marks the first U.S. TV role for Snook, who had been on the radar of the Clementine producers for a while, since before the script was picked up to pilot. I hear she was suggested by the project’s casting director, Tricia Wood, who is a friend of Georgaris. Snook recently flew to Los Angeles for her first U.S. pilot season, and Clementine was her very first screen test. She was not the first or only young actress the Clementine producers saw — they had been pitched dozens of actresses and had literally scoured the earth, auditioning women from the U.S., England, South Africa, Israel, New York, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. But I hear Snook blew them away and won the role in the room.

A trained actress — she has earned awards for her film and TV work in Australia — Snook is being compared to Jennifer Lawrence and young Jodie Foster and Cate Blanchett, her persona described as tough but warm, modern and beautiful. This year, Snook also will make her Hollywood feature debut as another title character, the lead in Lionsgate/Blumhouse’s horror film Jessabelle. Snook, repped by UTA, Principato-Young and Australia by Shanahan Management, made her film debut in 2010’s Sleeping Beauty, followed by Not Suitable For Children with Ryan Kwanten and Predestination with Ethan Hawke.

It's only a matter of time. I remember looking at the finale numbers for 2011, 2012 and 2013 last year. By 2013, they were like less than half of what they were in 2011.

Odd Couple Comedy From David Caspe & Erik Sommers Gets CBS Pilot Order
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

CBS has given a pilot order to Cuz-Bros (form. Roommates), a multi-camera comedy from Happy Endings creator/exec producer David Caspe and former Happy Endings co-executive producer Erik Sommers. The project, from Happy Endings producer Sony TV and Jamie Tarses’ studio-based Fanfare, which co-produced the cult ABC comedy, was originally sold to CBS with penalty in a competitive situation. It will now become a co-production with CBS TV Studios. Written by Sommers and Caspe, Cuz-Bros centers on a successful, suave ladies man whose perfect life gets turned upside down when his mess of a cousin needs a place to stay. Sommers and Caspe exec produce with Tarses. This marks the second pilot order for Caspe this season; he also has romantic comedy pilot Marry Me for NBC/Sony TV starring Casey Wilson and Ken Marino. Sommers currently serves as co-executive producer on NBC/Sony TV’s Community.
I can't imagine that title sticks if anything happens with this.

But Happy Endings guys.

Rita Moreno To Co-Star In Amy Poehler’s NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Old Soul’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Rita Moreno, fresh off winning a lifetime achievement award at the SAG Awards, has been tapped to co-star opposite Natasha Lyonne in NBC‘s single-camera comedy pilot Old Soul. Co-created/exec produced by Amy Poehler, Josh Bycel and Jonathan Fener and directed by David Wain, Old Soul centers on a reformed wild child Nadia (Lyonne) who has a business caring for the elderly and feels she has more in common with her colorful old clients than she does with people her age. Moreno will play one of the clients, a character that appears tailored for her down to the name, Rita. A sexy old gal and a ball of joy, Rita is a flamboyant, larger- than-life Broadway vet who has been happily married to her writing partner/husband for over 50 years. Moreno, repped by Innovative Artists, was the first and one of the very few performers to win an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, and a Grammy. She has earned two Emmys for her guest appearances on The Rockford Files and the Muppet Show and most recently co-starred on the TV Land comedy series Happily Divorced.
I have a good feeling about this one. Mostly because of Poehler and it being written by two Happy Endings writers, but still. :o:up:

MTV Picks Up Drama ‘Eye Candy’ To Series With 10-Episode Order, Pilot Will Be Reshot
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

UPDATED: MTV’s new regime has gone 4-for-4, picking up all four of its scripted pilots to series. The latest to get a series nod is thriller drama pilot Eye Candy, which has received an order for 10 episodes. The pilot, which will undergo extensive recasting and will be reshot, joins recently picked up coming of age drama Finding Carter, which has a 12-episode order, and new comedy series Faking It and Happyland, both with 8-episode pickups. Eye Candy, from top genre feature producer Jason Blum, stars Victoria Justice as tech genius Lindy who begins to suspect that one of her online suitors might be a deadly cyber stalker. When her friends at the cyber-police uncover a potential serial killer in Manhattan, she works with the hackers to solve the murders while unleashing her own style of justice. Co-starring with Justice in the Eye Candy pilot were Harvey Guillen, Nico Tortorella, Olesya Rulin, Justin Martin, and Lilan Bowden. Of them, only Guillen will stay on alongside Justice, with all other roles recast for a new pilot episode. Eye Candy, written by Emmy Grinwis and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, marks a departure for MTV. The network also has a pilot based on the Scream horror franchise, which is still being written.

HBO Gives Series Order To Comedy Pilot ‘The Brink’ Starring Jack Black & Tim Robbins, From Jay Roach & Jerry Weintraub
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: In a very quick turnaround, HBO has given a series order to The Brink, its comedy pilot starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins, directed by Jay Roach and executive produced by Jerry Weintraub. Written by former Weeds executive producer Roberto Benabib and his brother Kim Benabib, The Brink is an epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Robbins); Alex Coppins (Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Callahan (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. These three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War III. Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Geoff Pierson, Esai Morales and Eric Ladin co-star on the series, executive produced by Roberto Benabib, Weintraub and Roach. Kim Benabib and Susie Ekins co-executive produce.

This marks the first HBO series for Weintraub and Roach, who both have deals with the pay cable network and established relationships there. Weintraub executive produced HBO Films’ Emmy-winning movie Behind The Candelabra, while Roach directed and exec produced the Emmy-winning HBO movies Game Change and Recount.

The Brink’s road to HBO’s primetime started with an email Weintraub received while in Europe, which contained the Benabibs’ script. “I read it and I fell in love with it,” he said. When he came back to Los Angeles, Weintraub had lunch with Roach about a movie project where Roach mentioned that he had been looking to do a half-hour comedy. Weintraub ran to his office and brought Roach The Brink script. Joking that Roach “is famous for taking three years to make up his mind” on anything, Wentraub heard from the director the very next day. “He calls me and he says, ‘I’m in, the script is too good’.” The project quickly got a pilot green light at HBO with Weintraub and Roach’s wish-list actors, Black and Robbins, both coming on board. “We surrounded them with great actors, and it all came together,” Weintraub said. “We knew at the table read that we had the right thing.”

The pilot was recently completed and only shown to HBO brass yesterday, triggering an immediate seriues pickup. All in all, it took only 4-5 months from the moment Weintraub started working on The Brink to its series greenlight. “They don’t know how long I’m going to live, that’s why they picked it up so quickly,” the 76-year-old Weintraub quipped, praising HBO for being “very supportive and not intrusive in the creative processes.” It’s been a big day for Weintraub, who also today received a green light from Warner Bros. for the long-gestating 3D Tarzan movie.
