Jennifer Lopez To Topline FBI Drama Series For NBC That She Will Produce With Ryan Seacrest

In one of the highest-profile packages this year, NBC has given a 13-episode straight-to-series order to Shades Of Blue, a drama toplined by Jennifer Lopez, which she will executive produce with her American Idol co-star Ryan Seacrest. Written by Adi Hasak (From Paris with Love), the project is eying a June start but will be for the 2015-16 season, not the one that starts in September. Shades of Blue is a complex police series that centers on Harlee McCord (Lopez), a single mother and detective recruited to work undercover for the FBI’s anti-corruption task force. Part of a close-knit unit known for its conviction record, Harlee has become compromised by her colleagues — all of whom also pitch in to help her raise her daughter — and finds herself faced with the moral dilemma of working against her cop brothers in order to redeem herself. Lopez and Seacrest executive produce with Nina Wass, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina for Universal Television, Nuyorican Productions, Ryan Seacrest Productions, EGTV and H’s Films. This marks NBCU-based reality powerhouse RSP’s first scripted series.

“Whether its producing, acting, singing or any of her other many entrepreneurial activities, Jennifer is an extraordinary talent and life force, and we’re delighted to be in business with her and Adi Hasak on this sophisticated show,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “We’re especially excited that Jennifer is returning to her acting roots from such great movies as Out of Sight, and we know that she will create this complicated character in a vivid way that will breathe new life into the cop show genre. Ryan Seacrest is part of the NBCU family and doing his first scripted drama series with us makes perfect sense.”

I hear Goldsmith-Thomas and Hasak originally set up the script at ABC. Once the network passed, Hasak brought it to RSP’s Wass, with whom he shares a lawyer. “Nina Wass loved the script from the moment she read it,” Seacrest said. “When Elaine, Adi and Benny approached us about working on it, we jumped at the chance to collaborate with such amazing partners. The script is so powerful and ambitious, we can’t wait to see Jennifer take on this remarkable role,” said Seacrest, who I hear was key in bringing Lopez and her manager Benny Medina to the project.

first episode ratings always have huge numbers before the expected second or third week drop in figures and viewers... it's that first episode attraction and curiosity...

Pilot Scoop: American Horror Story Vet Lily Rabe Joins ABC's Alien Drama The Visitors

Lily Rabe The VisitorsAmerican Horror Story‘s Lily Rabe is staying in the terror genre, joining ABC’s alien-themed drama pilot The Visitors, TVLine has learned.

Produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV, The Visitors chronicles a race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to destroy the world using our most precious resource against us.

Rabe will play Claire Bennigan, a dogged Child Specialist with the FBI investigating a string of strange cases involving children and their imaginary friend “Drill.” Her intuition — and compassion into the child’s mind – are her “superpowers.” But when she makes the devastating discovery that her own son is in the Enemy’s clutches, Claire’s confidence as a mother – and Agent – will be tested.

The cast also includes Revenge‘s Barry Sloane and Heroes‘ Milo Ventimiglia.

Under the Dome scribe Soo Hugh is penning the script and noted video director Mark Romanek is set to helm the pilot.

Big win for that pilot. I'm glad it's a pilot I'm actually semi-interested in and not some **** procedural we've already seen a million times before.

If it goes forward, though, I see no way it wouldn't affect her presence on AHS, which is too bad. She was one of that show's biggest assets. Lange may be the star, but Rabe was the most versatile IMO.

Jericho alum Skeet Ulrich is set for a lead role opposite Meagan Good in NBC drama pilot Babylon Fields, from Michael Cuesta, Gerald Cuesta and Michael Atkinson. The 20th TV-produced project, originally developed and piloted at CBS seven years ago, is about a town’s residents coming back from the dead. Ulrich, repped by UTA and Brillstein, will play the dual roles of Father Harries, a local priest, and his estranged identical twin brother Graham, a junkie who returns from the dead. This marks Ulrich’s return to NBC where he starred on Law & Order: LA. He will segue to Babylon Fiends after wrapping indie Lost in Austin and will next be seen in the indie 50 to 1.

Hope Davis & Margarita Levieva To Star In NBC Drama Pilot ‘Coercion’

Hope Davis and Margarita Levieva are set as the female leads opposite Gavin Stenhouse in the NBC drama pilot Coercion. Based on the Israeli format The Gordin Cell, the project hails from Universal Television and Keshet Media Group, which is behind the original series. Written-directed by George Nolfi, the high-octane thriller revolves around the O’Connor family and their extremely intelligent son, Alex (Stenhouse), a decorated American war hero and newly minted CIA analyst who is a true patriot and loves his country and family. Unbeknownst to him, his father, his mother (Davis) and his sister (Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Davis’ Katya is described as your average Brooklyn mother who, under the surface, is sexy, dangerous, tough, smart and ready to do anything to protect her family. Levieva’s Natalie is also described as sexy and tough, often too smart for her own good and a bit of a wild child. All O’Connors will speak some Russian, which will come natural to Levieva, who was born and grew up in the Russian part of Soviet Union before emigrating with her family to the U.S. at age 11 when, also appropriately for the show, they settled in Brooklyn, NY. Levieva, repped by UTA and Silver Lining, is coming off a two-year stint on ABC’s Revenge as faux Amanda Clarke and recently guest starred on NBC’s The Blacklist. UTA-repped Davis has been recurring on Aaron Sorkin’s HBO series The Newsroom.

Jamie Lee Curtis To Star In CBS’ David Marshall Grant Drama Pilot

After years of trying, Jamie Lee Curtis has been lured to do a pilot. The True Lies and Halloween alumna is set to star in CBS’ untitled David Marshall Grant drama pilot, from CBS TV Studios and Timberman-Beverly. The soapy medical show, based on an Israeli format, revolves around quadruplets – three brothers and a sister – who grew up on a reality show. Curtis will play Caroline, the quadruplets’ mother, a dynamic and distinguished physician who now runs the Hospital. This marks Curtis’ first series regular role since 1989′s Anything But Love. It expands her relationship with CBS and CBS TV Studios where she recently did an arc on NCIS. CAA-repped Curtis was recently attached to a horror drama project at ABC Family with her Halloween H20 director Steve Miner. She also has been recurring on Fox’s New Girl. Grant penned the script for the CBS pilot, which he exec produces with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, the Israeli series creators Giyora Yahalom and Oren Jakobi as well as Yona Wiesenthal, Avi Armoza, Eilon Ratzkovsky, Tariq Jalil and David Garrett.

That's kind of too bad. Her ABC Family thing actually sounded good.

Matthew Perry’s ‘Odd Couple’ Comedy Reboot Gets CBS Pilot Order

Neil Simon’s classic The Odd Couple is getting closer to a primetime return with a pilot order by CBS to the multi-camera version starring, co-written and executive produced by Matthew Perry. The project, which had a script commitment with penalty, is a new take on two mismatched roommates — the messy Oscar Madison (Perry) and the neat freak Felix Unger. It was written by Perry and Frasier veteran Joe Keenan, the latter replacing original co-writer Danny Jacobson. The Odd Couple pilot hails from CBS TV Studios and two of its top pods, Timberman-Beverly and The Tannenbaum Co. It marks Friends alum Perry’s return to multi-camera comedy after two single-camera shows — ABC’s Mr. Sunshine, which he also co-created, and NBC’s Go On. Simon’s play The Odd Couple premiered on Broadway in 1965 with Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as Felix and spawned a successful 1968 movie in which Matthau reprised his role alongside Jack Lemmon as Felix, and the 1970 ABC/Paramount TV series in which Oscar was played by Jack Klugman and Felix by Tony Randall. It ran for five seasons.

For Perry, doing The Odd Couple has been a dream 34 years in the making. “Ever since seeing the movie The Odd Couple when I was 10 years old, it has been a dream for me to play Oscar Madison,” he said at the time the pitch was sold to CBS in December. “To be given the opportunity to develop a modern version of it for CBS has put a permanent smile across my face…. Plus, I think it’s time for me to be in front of a live audience again. I miss that. The search for Felix Ungar is on!”

Perry is executive producing with Carl Beverly & Sarah Timberman and Eric Tannenbaum & Kim Tannenbaum. In addition to the hit 1968 movie and the 1970 series, there was an Odd Couple movie sequel starring Matthau and Lemmon; a CBS Odd Couple reunion TV movie; a short-lived The New Odd Couple follow-up ABC series with black leads produced by Garry Marshall; an ABC cartoon; and The Female Odd Couple, a female version of the play by Simon.

Justin Long To Star In Fox Comedy Pilot ‘Sober Companion’ Which Changes Format From Multi- To Single-Camera

After a lengthy courtship, Justin Long has signed on as one of the two leads in Fox’s comedy pilot Sober Companion, originally developed and greenlighted as multi-camera. As part of getting Long to commit, Fox is converting CBS Studios-produced Sober Companion to single-camera, which is a format I hear Long was open to doing full-time. He has experience in both, doing a memorable arc on the first season of Fox’s single-camera comedy New Girl and an arc on CBS’ freshman sitcom Mom this past fall. The switch from multi- to single-camera impacts a couple of crew members who will have to be replaced, though director Don Scardino, who has helmed both multi- and single-camera comedy series, is staying put. Written/exec produced by David S. Rosenthal & Jennie Snyder Urman, Sober Companion centers on a charming, but self-destructive attorney who finds his world turned upside down when a court-appointed sober companion (Long) takes control of his life. Long’s Jeremy is a perennially upbeat, maddeningly eccentric sober companion who uses unconventional methods to keep clients clean. The actor, repped by ICM Partners and Intellectual Artists Management, recently wrapped features Tusk and Comet.
