In related news.... USA apparently had a show called Satisfaction. :o

Bad karma for USA continues since passing on Happy Endings. All the shows they've launched since 2013 have been ratings failures.

7 canceled shows
3 shows awaiting renewal but don't have ratings to deserve it
Mr. Robot has low ratings but has a second season order

That must be some TV record.

Well the wire didn't have great ratings but beacause of the quality it stayed on HBO and what a relief it did but mr robot is staying round for awhile

It's probably because USA has gone very serious.

They get the ratings when they have have a quirky gimmick in the show. Even if it starts out with a bit of comedy, and then becomes serious (like Suits).

Two years ago they also had a show called Rush? Even prior to 2013 things weren't going well with them launching new shows.

Fairly Legal (2011–2012)
Necessary Roughness (2011–2013)
Fairly Legal (2011–2012)
Common Law (2012)
Graceland (2013–2015)
Benched (2014)
Rush (2014)
Satisfaction (2014–2015)
Sirens (2014–2015)
Complications (2015)
Dig (2015)

Royal Pains have lost half their audience in 3 years, Suits has declined each season it has been on. I love Mr. Robot, they'll probably keep it just for awards season. Playing House somehow just got a third season despite less than 500,000 viewers an episode.

All those USA shows have a certain blandness to them (Deal with wealthy jerks or cops/ lawyers). Mr. Robot is the best thing they came out with in years because it goes outside the norms for the channel.

I think for a while, USA was the show where they were doing sort of quirky character dramas, all with a similar tone after Burn Notice became a hit, and then a bunch of shows started coming all with a similar style. A sort of bouncy humorous slightly serious style. Tonally, the shows are like watching a 1980s movie.

I think the problem is they started repeating that so much that all the shows started looking and sounding the same.

Piper Perabo to Star in ABC Drama Pilot 'Notorious'
Inspired by the true-life stories of famed criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos and cable news producer Wendy Walker, the project is a provocative look at the unique, sexy and dangerous interplay of criminal law and the media.

Perabo will take on the role of Julia and inspired by Walker. The character is the driven producer of the No. 1 TV news program in the country. She’s squeaky clean on paper, but fights in the mud when necessary. She not only controls the nation’s headlines, she owns them. She's attractive and strong, but also vulnerable.
How To Get Away With Murder and The People v OJ Simpson have given me a taste for defense attorneys doing shady s*** to win, so I'm interested.

Leighton Meester Snags Lead in Fox's Time Travel Comedy Making History
Meester, who despite being heavily wooed by all the major networks has remained off the TV grid since Gossip Girl ended in 2012, will play Deborah, a colonial woman with modern ideals trapped in a regressive time. She has contemporary beliefs of gender and racial equality which everyone scoffs at in 1775. She’s self-educated and incredibly motivated. Her routine skills of 1775 are amazing today — hunting, fishing, making clothes, serving 30 people dinner with like six potatoes. She also is a bit psychic; she has dreams about various people who need help in history which drives stories of where she, Dan (played by Pally) and Chris time travel.
Bah Gawd.

Oddly enough, I was sort of with it until the whole "bit psychic" thing.

Another series about revisionist history? I like it fine when they do it understated or in a low key concept but this series just sounds dumb.

same here... it seems like it might have had a good concept going, but they went a little too far with the psychic thingie and fooked it all up.... for ME, anyway...

Supernatural and TVD are long-running enough that the network won't end them without giving them the benefit of a final season from the get-go. The "Even ____" should be reserved for something like Reign or My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
