The Dark Knight Capes and Cowls - New Batsuit Discussion Thread

I find it interesting that on the BB suit feature on the DVD they talk about the previous suits being too "industrial" and how Nolan wanted to "take it back to the organic form of the figure..."

Kind of ironic now, isn't it?

Yes chain mail and shoulder padding is so organic. The shoulder pads reminds me of the outfits women used to wear in the '80.:whatever:

I honestly think on screen with different lighting the suit is going to look mostly fine. The smallness of the mouth-hole has been exaggerated by some due to close up's & press shots, it wasn't too big of a deal in BB I thought, and I think it'll be the same in DK.

HAHA Whats going on in The Capes & Cowls Thread? Or should I not even ask?

The suit is fantastic. In this day and age it's what ( this is just my opinion) he'd be wearing. I only wish his insignia on his chest armor was bigger and/or stood out a bit more.

Ive probably said this a million times so far, they should've made that chestplate dubbed "the bra" on here as the bat-symbol itself it woulda looked alot better and made the symbol itself alot bigger.

that seems to be a major problem with nolans realism take on the films that confuses people. there is a difference between realism and reality. realism is supposed to make the viewer have thoughts of it seeming more plausable in the real world. but there still needs to be that fantasy element in it. in the real world, a bank robbery like jokers could happen, but tell me what are the odds that that school bus would have actually hit the robber?
you need the fantasy element in there a bit, otherwise its just so dude in a bulletproof vest and cape jumping on rooftops.

So it's not Nolan's problem its the fact that most people here are idiots that's the problem.

agree 100000%

when i first saw the suit, i was thinking "wow alex ross HUGE logo" but then on closer inspection, i saw this itty bitty logo.

the costume would have been more agreeable to my eyes if the symbol was huge and dark (Like the bra lol)

WOW! ......will it ever end in this thread? I really dont think so!

HEY! I didn't say it, I was just translating.

it's true though, I've seen this place spend an entire evening arguing over the hors d'oeuvres being served at Wayne's Penthouse

In a way. People read one quote, and they ran all over with it. All Nolan is doing, is taking Batman, and putting him in a more realistic setting. It doesn't mean everything is/will be explained through real world-science.

Take Back to the Future for example. Its set in a real world. Its a movie, taking on a realistic tone/setting, although, I have yet to see a Delorean travel through time. Do you see what I'm getting at here folks?

At the end of the day, its just a friggin movie. Move on with life. :cwink:

I know right...lol I just think its funny whenever I come in here its the same thing, but I cant refrain from coming in, its where I get my daily SHH laughs for the day.

I agree as well.

If the bat-symbol was bigger, then I think the suit would be much more appealing to the eyes. Just my 2 cents.:cwink:

Dont you guys get it?

These changes were made so Bale could actually FIGHT in the Batsuit. Why do you think Nolan cut the fight scenes the way he did. Yeah he was going for a criminal perspective thing but even with the one on one with Raas at the end the cuts are quick and the shots are close up so as not to reveal how awkward it was for Bale to move in the batsuit. This new bat suit he can perform way more complex moves that we will actually be able to SEE because they wont look awkward. That my friends is worth the price of a different looking batsuit, but i love the new look anyway.

Just look at that clip in the Imax featurette when he says "You wanted me" "hear I am" when he delivers that line you can see his head moving slowly to the side. This subtle movement = Badass, Bale's is allowed to perform more in this suit as opposed to being a statue.

Look at the Iconic Shot of him on top of the sears tower as he slowly moves his head downward as he listens, impossible with the old suit.

All these nuances will make for an excellent performance while allowing for better fight scenes. The nay-sayers can now shut their mouths please!

After reading the L'Ecran Fantastique - Interviews with Christian Bale, Lindy Hemming and Chris Churchy, I've gained a new respect for the suit, now I can see why alot of the decisions were made. I never hated the suit, just how segmented it was, but now I understand the reasoning behind it. If ya haven't read it yet, you should.

I get it, and have "gotten it" since I saw the first released picture of the new suit, its quite obvious in fact, Im not sure how so many cant see the light shine so brightly right in their faces.

Yeah, subtle head movements are always "badass" (are you serious?) and Batman's "head bob" will really be something to watch.

He may have more side to side movement, but the looking up and down movements were not an issue in Begins.

You obviously know nothing about acting or performance if you cant agree that the freedom of head movement will give Bale a much more dynamic range of emotions/movements that will allow for a very AWESOME batman. I can already tell the suit allows him to act more naturally, he was uncomfortable and stiff in the Begins suit and still managed an amazing performance, now he has more freedom, can only get better man!

At first I hated the new suit but now I love it the more I've seen of it. I'd still in the the 3rd, like to see a smoother suit, less armor. More so like around the Bat, just nothing around it. but it is a sleeker suit.

I got my best look at it after buying the movie masters action figure.

My fave part of the new suit, is no more clasps on the cape, that was way too much like the Val/George Sonar suits, those had clasps and every time I see them that is all I can think of. I don't mind a smaller Bat it makes me think of bob Kane's first design but I miss the bigger one.

But it's all good, I love the new movies.

Glad to hear it Spider!

i think it looks like a life-size plastic action figure....
but thats me.

Kinda odd how much I never paid much attention to how little movement Keaton in Batman 89, like when he drops Jack in the chemicals at Axis and he had to turn his body completely just to look left and right before using a smoke pellet to escape, or how he had to lean back just to look up to Vicki in the alley fight scene. Fighting-wise he was also very restricted, but I think they compensated his lack of mobility by giving the feel he had very powerful punches/kicks. With this new "KFM" style fighting, I'm expecting to see more ninja-like fighting...which is what Batman should really fight like.

Agreed, it resembles the returns suit and cowl a great deal, which was my favorite.

Tell you what...since you felt the need to jump to conclusions about what I do and do not know...you tell me WHY those motions are important (specific, relevant reasons, mind you) and as a relatively experienced actor myself, I won't bother to explain to you why I think that it's ABSURD that you call something like that "badass".

Someone's going to have to explain to me how being able to move one's head equals "Awesome". I mean, could you be any more hyperbolic?
