Capitalism and Ticket Scalping

..using a computer program to purchase tickets isnt illegal last time I checked

Apparently it is now...

I agree with Ticketmaster on this one. If a scalper wants to stand in line for hours or put up with overloaded servers like a regular ticket buyer, that's fine. But using a certain program to cut in front of other buyers and hack your way past quantity limitations should be illegal.

I'd just go with my cop friend to any NY venue and get the ticket for cost.

Went to see Social Distortion and needed a ticket. Scalper comes up to me, my friend flashes his badge and tells him to sell it to me for the price on the ticket.

I even paid less than my friends because they had a ticketmaster charge on it.

aren't you special........if I was the scalper, I would have walked away and sold it to someone else......If I buy a ticket, I feel I have the right to resell it at a profit

I did feel very special. I'll bring him to the next concert or sporting event I want to see.

I came across this story with no prior knowledge of the Disney cash cow known as "Hannah Montana". Apparently ticket brokers and scalpers have been snatching up tickets and reselling them at an average of $214 when the promoter capped the price at $64 dollars as to make the show affordable for families. Now suddenly because kids are sad and parents are involved, a couple Attorney Generals from various states are investigating these ticket brokers. Most of you that know me on here, know I am a huge fan of the free market, supply and demand, and capitalism. I just wanted to gauge everyone's feelings on the general practice of scalping....Have you bought scalped tickets? have you scalped tickets yourself? or any other thoughts you might have on the subject......
There is a difference between capitalism and price gouging. These folks are taking advantage of youn kids to make a quick buck. If the promoter capped the price, then the price is capped. The brokers and scalpers are doing basicaly the same thing as the folks who started charing $5.00+/gal for gas here in the US after Katrina.

The thing is, in a majority of the states, you don't have that right. And the promoters of the event also have rights to curb the scalping of tickets to their event.

But were they purchased, legally?

Regardless, when you sell them for more than what the company/group is selling them for, that IS illegal. They seriously need to crack down on these **** heads. If you buy a lot of them and sell them for same price(even though you wouldn't get a profit which doesn't make sense)that's fine. The moment you up the amount your trying to make profit off of something that isn't yours to make a profit off of.

Good for you. I used to go to concerts all the time but would always buy my tickets online or at the proper places. Hated seeing all the trash outside the arena trying to sell tickets for double or triple what there actually worth. I would always hope to be entertained while waiting outside in line sometimes, to see a cop bust one of those *****es.

That's awesome.

I don't mind someone scalping tickets, I tried getting tickets when the White Sox went to the World Series for the soul purpose of selling them on eBay. Also if a venue holds back a number of tickets to sell the day of the event that's cool too, but brokerage houses that buy up a huge number of tickets to sell at a large profit like this Hannah Montana crap is bs. I wouldn't even mind if they sold the tickets on eBay, if they started the bidding at face value, then however much the parents end up paying is fine with me, since they essentially set the price. I've done that with the last two Jimmy Buffett concerts I went to, I paid right around face value both times too. Brokerage houses just stack the chips against the normal consumer.
