Captain Marvel Captain Marvel costume thread

Make the yellow insignia/lines glow (like Tron), it needs to look alien and otherworldly.
Also no bathing suit please, we need to be able to take Carol seriously; she needs to be able to lead The Avengers if something happens to Cap, she has to look like a CAPTAIN.

I loved Dexter Soy's art. Carol's hair didn't look too crazy when he drew her with the helmet. I'm not a huge fan of crazy hair Carol, and by extension, the mask. She can still have normal straight blonde hair and still be a badass.

As far as Carol's costume, I have no idea why it's even a debate. The movie is called Captain Marvel. She needs a costume which reflects that. Her current costume is the perfect choice. It has the same colors as the original Captain Marvel and the star of Hala. The only question should be the details of the suit. Should there be low or gold lines? Should she wear a mask/helmet? Should her costume be brighter/duller? Is it a costume or a space suit? Please, no more talk about the leotard, or Carol just wearing a thong for fanboy fantasies. Enough with the nonsense.

Yeah, Dexter Soy's definitely been my favorite artist for her current costume.

I also really liked the cover Dodson did with her and Spidey
Thought she looked great on that, although the costume looked a bit more traditional-spandex than Soy's art, but it didn't have the mask or the faux-hawk

Some questions I want to ask about the costume.

Given how independent Carol is wouldn't it make sense for her to redesign the Captain Marvel costume to reflect her tastes and have symbols on it that mean something to her personally?

Carol is likely taking up the mantle of a man she is probably gonna meet for the first time. What kind of emotional attachment is she gonna realistically have to the star of Hala to wear it so prominently on her chest? Or even the color scheme.

It's different in the comics. Carol took up the mantle of Captain Marvel after Mar-Vell was dead for a long time. The emotional attachment was there for her. How much emotional attachment will Carol have to that legacy in the MCU right off the bat?

maybe the star will be some sort of mark or brand she gets from being near Mar-vell (or whatever Kree they use) during the explosion that gives her powers

or maybe her powers will be partly based on the suit itself, so without her Kree costume she has fewer abilities

or maybe her and Mar-vell have been friends for years, he's just been hiding his Kree identity

IDK exactly, but I'm sure a better writer than myself can think of something good

She is an independent person, but Marvel's been pushing her in the new costume, so I doubt they'll go back to the lightning bolt type ensignia

I like the mask, but I'm not a fan of the crazy hair. Short hair looks good, so long as it's not a dike cut. Anything is better though than Carol's Super Saiyan Goku look in Hickman's Avengers run.

Oh yeah, I hate the way she's drawn in the Avengers comics.

haven't seen it lately
that bad?

Well, I'm way behind on Avengers, too. I just know I hated how both Opena and Deodato drew her.

I agree about Dodson, though. He and Lopez (on her current run) both did a pretty good job, too, without the mask.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Deodato, his art all looks the same, all shadows and puffed out chests
and while I love Opena's art, the dude's been going overboard with the detailing on his costumes

and based on what we've gotten from the MCU so far, I don't think we have to worry about the mask being used, lol

Depending on what exactly the suit is she may not have the means to alter or customize it.

Someone at SDCC got a low res look at Captain Marvel's design in the Avengers cartoon next season.

The show primarily uses moviefied designs for characters that have them, so I'm wondering if perhaps they might be basing Carol's design off potential concept art for the movie.

After watching clips on the origins of the GOTG in the animated series, it will be interesting to see how they tell Carol's origin.

I like Anka's slightly updated Captain Marvel costume.

But I love Anka's art in general.

Not a fan of the boots, gloves, or the pouches on the stash. Not really a fan of the hair style either, really, but it's the least of my problems with that design.

This was the Ultron Revolution btw.

Would not be surprised if it's something similar.

This was the suit in one of the recent animated productions. I wonder if we'll get something along those lines.

Ideally, I think they should do what they've done with Black Panther and use CGI touch-ups. Give the suit a more alien vibe, without getting into fake-looking Green Lantern territory.

^ that one's a little too busy, imo
and the other Anka design a little too masculine, for my taste

it'd be nice if it was colored like the Anka one, but styled like the above
and it should be practical, but agreed they could use CG enhancements

You do realize the Anka one on Emily Blunt, Katee Sackhoff, whoever gets the role, will look less masculine, right? I have no issue with his drawing though. She looks great on the cover and on the design sheet. I think she should be more toned than the rest of the Avengers women too and not wearing heels or wedges.

Carol's character definitely doesn't make sense as the sexy-empowerment type, IMO
Certain characters I think it works for, like Emma Frost, Elektra, Psylocke, Those characters who have been show to use their sexuality as an advantage
it also works for those who have no connection to American beliefs on decency, like Storm (at first), Power Girl, Angela, etc.

but any sort of military character, like CM, Abigail Brand, Maria Hill or Star Sapphire
or any younger characters, like Kitty, Magik, or Starfire (after the teen titans cartoon made her a children's hero) those people it doesn't work for

It could work tho. The same way they play male jet pilots to be these stud-like guys, they could do that to Carol. Why can't she be like Black Canary or Huntress from those JLU cartoons (female characters who super independent, alpha-level characters, while also fun and confident in their sexuality at the same time)?

Often times people on the Internet act like it's either or. The real world doesn't work that way. I know many females who fill that shade of grey.

She def should be toned, but at the same time, Carol has always been portrayed as a curvy woman amongst the Avengers compared to other heroes like Wasp and Mockingbird. And with body image being something so talked about these days, I think Carol should remain that way.

And regarding the costume, I doubt the movie costume will look like that. I think they'll def go for some Kree power armor. If you've noticed, all MCU costumes have explanations for why they are the way they are. Everything has a in-universe purpose.

And Carol with long hair >>>>>> Carol with short hair.

Kree power armor? No thank you. I don't want Carol to be another Iron Man. Carol's power should come within. Short hair can look awesome, but I really don't like the butch look that Carol has going on now.

I mean Kree power armor that's there for aesthetic purposes. Of course the movie will set up her having powers and what not. It's that I don't see them going with just the comic design.

Well then I guess I'm in the minority regarding the hair because I love the short cut. I think it really helps giving her a unique look compared to the other superheroines. Heck, I'd even be fine with the mohawk. Let's give Storm some competition.

About the outfit, just give me the live-action rendition of this one. No randomly added pockets, belt, stripes etc. Just this one in all its glorious simplicity. I realize it's probably never going to happen, but you know, at least I'm allowed to hope.

Also, Anka's art rules.

Because it's really cliché stereotypical portrayal and it's never really been Carol, so we don't need to see it just because some fans need "sexiness" in their female heroes. That's essential I guess for some people.

And I doubt that Marvel will feel obligated to cast a "well-endowed" woman to play a seasoned military officer just because, well comic book artists are obsessed with trying to give their readers boners by drawing 95% of their female characters to look like supermodels.

And short hair>>>>>>>>>better than long hair for Carol, and it'd set her apart the other female Avengers to boot.
