Captain Marvel Captain Marvel costume thread

Dunno how I missed this but it's pretty darn cool.

Iron Man isn't different because it's armor. Cap's uniform in Avengers and AoU looks fracking boss. It's different because, like for those characters, it flows out of the story. The challenge with Captain Marvel is that there's not a costume that seems to naturally flow out of the story, unless you put Mahr Vehl in the ubergeneric jumpsuit.
IDA on Iron Man and Cap was easily the worst looking hero on the team in the first Avengers film. His costume design wasnt good at all and was much improved in TWS. Im not even sure I understand you on story bc I dont see what that has to do with anything. Im talking pure aesthetics. Good writing doesnt make a silly costume look any better than bad writing making a good one look worse.

You know what, I want. Put Carol in the Ultimate Mahr Vehl costume.

That would make me say, yes, she's totally badarse. A lot of these other repaints of a silver age costume don't actually improve on her current design, which is the optimum way to allude to Mar-Vell and keep bits of her 'iconic' Warbird costume with the sash and such.
No offense, but that would be worse than anything thrown around in this thread

If you put it in front of someone without a caption, people would still know it's WW.In the case of Ms Marvel, her eventual movie costume will likely be mistaken for BW,Mockingbird,Sif,or any of the other marvel women with generic jumpsuits.

Absolutely no comparison. Wonder Woman is an iconic comic character. In fact she is THE most iconic female superheroine to the mainstream public by far and I dont think anyone here will disagree with that. Who is Carol Danvers? Marvel's tried to push her in the last decade but she isnt a big name to the general public. Many comic fans who havent kept in touch with the line from the last couple of years wouldnt even know she's Captain Marvel now and not going by her Ms. Marvel persona which she's used for decades. Her CM look is rather recent and therefore isnt even her iconic look so just using that as basis for a film would cause confusion. Without a caption and knowing there's a movie on the way, people would struggle to figure out that is Carol Danvers, let alone Captain Marvel. WW doesnt have the same identity crisis issues and can easily be picked out in any form of media.

And its a stretch to think she'll be mistaken for BW, Mockingbird and Sif. Sif isnt in a generic jumpsuit so I dont see how one would confuse medieval gear for that. BW is a redhead and I would place bets on Carol not being one in the MCU. Maybe with Mockingbird, but as long as they placed some of her signature elements on the costume (sash, starburst or lightning), I think that would be enough to distinguish her.

There's only 1 viable option

- Boots much reach the knee

- Dark blue

- LINES!

- emphasis on shoulder pads, I think it looks better in gold than red

- NO MASK!! Unless they manage to make it look good.

I hate Carol and I'm bitter Monica will never get her chance to shine:cmad:, but I'm so happy for her movie. I'll be surprised if they manage to keep her hairstyle consistent :oldrazz:

Dang!:wow: This is AMAZING!

Of course it does. Cap 1's costume was silly, but because of the story, it not only made sense for the character, so that him being in, say, all black would have been even more silly, but in TWS when he puts it back on (or at least the Smithsonian version of it), it means something, it has emotional value. No one goes to movies for pure aesthetics, so if that's all you're talking about, then you're not really talking about a movie, but maybe a movie poster?

Worse aesthetically? Not really. But fanboys certainly would be in a tizzy.

No. Cap's first costume was the one seen in his first solo film. It looked decent there and I didnt find it silly. They changed it in Avengers 1 for the worst. Story had nothing to do with those changes. It looked especially bad next to everyone else as I found them to be decent and he stood out in a bad way. The one seen in AoU seems to be more inspired by that original suit in terms of the color scheme shades and elements like straps as opposed to the bright simplistic one in Avengers 1.

I never said I or anyone went to see these films for pure aesthetics. I don't think story or "emotional value" make silly costumes look non-silly. It may or may not explain why a hero is in one, but aesthetically if the thing looks bad, then it looks bad.

that costume is awesome! it has a similar approach to Cap and Ironman suits, so definetly fits Marvel movies and feels pretty modern too, instead of that kind of swimsuit of the comics.

I hope they give Carol a mask.

I don't think its necessary but if they do I hope its inspired by her Ms. Marvel look and not that ugly helmet thing she currently wears with her Captain Marvel costume

I need her to have her current mask! Its too awesome! Her Ms. Marvel mask is ridiculous, at that point there is no reason for a mask.

I'm not a fan of any particular Captain Marvel masks, but I think it would make sense if she had one, specially since she flies in great speeds and go into space and stuff like that.

Am I the only user here that actually likes her prior "Ms. Marvel" look for her cinematic debut? Just because the film's gonna be called Captain Marvel it doesn't mean they can't pull a costume from her past.

I think she is far more striking and provacative with the above version. Maybe not in the black color but something similar. I can see Iron Man, Cap and the other boys being blinded by her beauty and then getting their asses handed to them by her brains and sheer strength.

However, I also like this too, especially for the splash of color:

We've never had a masked heroine in the Marvel universe...and I'd like to see Carol don one, honestly.

Nah, I love her Ms. Marvel look and persona and would rather her be that than Captain in her onscreen debut, but I get why they are doing it. Not sure how flying around in a bathing suit would work though as to be honest, while striking, its always been a bit impractical. I wonder how it would look if the flesh part of her legs was made into pants instead.

If she does use her CM suit (and she likely will), I hope the Ms. Marvel look at least makes a cameo in her solo.

You're not the only one. I like the Warbird costume too because it's classic, but I like the Ms Marvel version from the Bronze Age when it was blue rather than black. I'm honestly bored of black.

But I still prefer a variant of her original red costume which is similar to the one she wore in A:EMH and which Moonstone wore.

I do want a masked heroine too. I think it looks cool and can just be part of the look, and not necessarily to hide her identity, since it probably wouldn't anyway.

It's also possible though, that she might not become "Captain Marvel" until the conclusion of the film. Meaning that the vast majority of the movie she'd be the "Ms. Marvel" we all love. I must say...I was little dissapointed when Marvel announced that the film would be called Captain Marvel. Ms. Marvel sounds so much more...I dunno...interesting.

Maybe the sequel will be called "Captain Marvel: Warbird" and we'll get taken for a spin. :funny:

I've always preferred the name "Ms Marvel" as well. I feel it rolls off the tongue better (perhaps with the alliteration) and sounds less golden age goofy than Captain Marvel.

Marvel are probably using Captain Marvel though for trademark reasons to ensure that that name is continually in use, and perhaps also to stick it to DC/WB with their Shazam film.

But you can see her legs and stuff!:wow: No one will take her seriously.(Even with Wonder Woman kicking *** like that in BVS.) :o

I kinda want a mix between these two looks...not the super-straight laced, all-covered look that Captain America already possesses. There should be a clear visual distinction between Steve Rogers and Carol Danvers.

Yeah. And honestly it's gonna be confusing as hell to general audiences:

Captain America
Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)
Captain Marvel (Shazam version).

Too much darling...too much.

I'd take her very seriously...and I'm gay. :oldrazz::up:

Seriously though, I'm tired of every female Marvel hero being 100% covered up in leather. Storm, Black Widow, Jean Grey...they've got all of these gorgeous actresses and they're working so damn hard to play down their beauty. Since Natasha is obviously gonna be around, why not contrast her look with something more sexy and confident? Again, this is also about cultivating a new audience who is not really as acquainted Ms. Marvel. Male viewers would delight in a franchise led by an intelligent, sexy and powerful superheroine for once.

How about this? Its a variation of her Ms. Marvel costume with pants

they wouldn't need to do this in the MCU though bc they are already using it in the comics and have done so for decades

I'm sick of leather jumpsuits, and I'm sick of them always being coloured black. It is so dull. That's why I'd want something like her A:EMH look with its dominant red colour scheme because it's so different to anything we've had with every other black or navy coloured jumpsuit heroine on the big or small screen. As much as I like the Warbird costume, I feel that it wouldn't be different enough and would become forgettable eventually, blending in with every all the other women who've dressed in that colour before.
