Cartoon Network to end Toonami

I remember only watching toonami for Sailor moon...good times! I have some good memories...

it's a good thing toonami is gone, it used to be awesome until it sold it's own soul for cheap shows. anyway the end of toonami will hopefully bring change. i really do hope that they'll bring back some good anime to CN because Cn is getting rid of all the anime which is pretty lame. but they seriously need some new good anime and not the cheap shows they have on now and re-runs....

Sad, Sad, Sad day, hopefully this will increase the quality of cartoons in general as they now have to compete much harder for the available time slots.

The issue with this is that, cartoon network has aired shows that appeal to mostly younger audiences or older.....more niche audiences. Shows such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Harvey Birdman have become the staple of Aduklt Swim. And shows like Ben10 have been the mainstay for the daytime programming.

It seems CN has been phasing out anime in many ways. If I were a netwrok producer or had the ability to revive anime on t.v. here in the USA, I would move more anime programs to either SPIKE or Sci-Fi. Spike is a channel tthat has a lot ofpotential but fails in many ways by only trying to appeal to "macho guys". They air shows like Married with Children which is completely irrelevant now a days, when the show jokes about the differences between BetaMax and VHS there is an issue. It is dated. But to spike it's crass and overly macho humor appeals to males 18-35. I disagree. If they aired perhaps more anime in the evening and took off shows like Wildest Police chases and Married with children, that they would have even better ratings. They showed Afro Samurai so that was a step in the right direction. If only they broadened their scopes beyond just lame overly stereotyped machos.

Sci-Fi has the animonday slot for anime but it is limited because it shows 2 episodes of the same show. If they added more shows and did only one episode it would give them more variety. I do know they will be showing the new Gundam 00 here pretty soon. For all we know they may replace CN as the anime access point in the USA.

Either way CN has pushed anime farther and farther off the table in recent years. However they faail to realize that shows like DBZ, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, and the Tenchi series (i.e. Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi in Tokyo) helped them get a solid fan base which they are now driving away. Personally if they stopped funding a channel like Boomerang which airs shows aimed at baby boomers originally, they would have more to fund anime programming. Boomerang may show more recent shows like the 90's Batman series and Pokemon, but the bulk of the programming are shows over3-4 decades old. Seems like a waste to me.

All in al the anime community in USA has died down a lot after the boom of the late 90's. I was an avid supporter and still am however companies make it harder when w can't even see it on tv much anymore, and shows like Bakugan and those kidy ones on FOX and CW don't count in my opinion.

that was a great post. i agree with pretty much everything you stated. i wish we could just get an anime channel that is accesible to all not just those with cable or those sattelite. a channel that people could get regardless if they have one or the other.

Sad, I liked Toonaami of old...:(
I just switch from Comcast to Verizon FIOS so far the only channel that they have for anime is the FUnimation Channel, but sadly, it lacks because they will play one show for hours on end instead of keeping a steady schedule.

Networks change formats and programming blocks all the time. It's not the first time for Cartoon Network. A while ago people cried foul when they got away from showing strictly classic cartoons.

People were getting annoyed and complaining when it seemed all channels wanted for animation was anime. When now Cartoon Network is pushing some more original shows again that are pretty decent like Alien Force and The Secret Saturdays (don't care much for Clone Wars).

Not sure what this does for One Piece and Naruto at this point. I think there would definitely be an audience for Shippuden here since Naruto is still a big seller.

Funimation, now that they are almost monopolizing anime distribution in the US, I hope they are ready to weather the current economic climate even though they seemed to have been having some decent sales numbers for a while.

When the market was flooded with anime, it was due to shows like Beyblade, and Bakugan, and shows that tried to be anime such as G.I.JOE Sigma Six.

anime shows like Gundam Blue Gender, Outlaw Star and rahxephon are shows that could have great success on channels like SPIKE and Sci-Fi, if SPIKE would stop airing irrelevant shows like Married with children and reruns of wildest police chase shows. Thay aired Afro Samrai after all.

Also one of the reasons Funimation has had so much sucess where otheranime compnaies have failed is due in large part to the constant evolution of the Dagonball Z line of products. They have recently released the show in season with approx 6 discs each uncut covering entire story arcs for around $30-$40 at places like Wa-Mart and Target that have mass appeal, unlike most anime where one disc alone usually costs $20-$30 and is usualy sold in speciaty stores or in malls.

If done right a regular anime programming block on certain channels would do well, however when Tonami started using Toonami as an outlet for more original programming and less anime, it had a huge impact on the anime culture because most people went there for their anime fix. Now all they have left is the however many-th time they have rerun Inuyasha on Adult Swim.

Shows like Witch Hunter Robin and Wolf's Rain would do well on t.v. especially with the growing interest in those kind of topics with Twilight and harry Potter proving that people and young people like to have a fresh idea in how people see the world.

they got an anime network on demand, seriously did wonders for me for a good year and a half, every week theyd add a new episode of a series and had about 12 series going on at once.
