Cartoon Network to become "Network"

I figured Nicktoons was created to air any animation that comes out of Nickelodeon studios, not just from a specific time period otherwise they wouldn't have original programming like Wolverine and Iron Man that just air on Nicktoons exclusively...I agree on the CN Real stuff...apparently its been received quite poorly and will probably not last the year

which is why there should be a channel dedicated to 90's Nick, i would gladly take out the crap Nick Toons and get a 90's Nick channel
there is a market and demographic for nostalgia kids shows,

what you think is crap are the favorite toons of a lot of kids...my nephew loves Danny Phantom, its just ok IMO, but he digs it....I think Cartoon Network is trying to fight with Nick and Disney for that audience and they see that Disneys live programming is successful and want a bit of that...doesn't seem to be working

The original intention of Nicktoons Network was as a counter attack to Cartoon Networks Boomerang which was created two years prior. Last I heard the only show from CN Real with serviceable ratings is Destroy Build Destroy which is why the advertising on it has picked up.

If CN is trying to compete with Nick & Disney, why do all these new shows look like they belong on Discovery kids?

I don't know...so it looks like they arent blatantly ripping off of Disney is my guess

They don't want to hire writers. the last time they did they got out of jimmys head.

all the good kiddie show writers work for Disney, the ones who got fired from Disney work for Nick

I don't watch Disney shows all that much, but most of their live action shows do well and last 4-6 seasons, they make good change on DVD sales as well...is there better kids shows on now to have a fair comparison??

They also don't like giving pay raises to their writers. It's the reason why all of their shows only last a few seasons.

Notice how they wrapped up Ben 10 only to start Ben 10: Alien Force they'll soon end it only to start Ben 10: Evolutions. They avoid keeping old writers around to avoid giving them mandatory bonuses.

So what are they going to do about Family Guy and The Clone Wars?
Oh they'll keep those they bring in the ratings and they don't have to pay as much as they do while making there own. Kind of like back in the day when they just used to air anime. Cheap and they didn't have to work.

There aren't any other kids show. Disney just has a wicked marketing team. Thats why they can get by with shoddy writing.

Family Guy is produced by Fox Television, not Cartoon Network, so they just pay Fox for airing licenses...Clone Wars is produced by Lucasfilm, so CN isn't out of pocket with them either

Clone Wars will be back in the fall and Family Guy is a product of Fox. As far as the syndicated episodes of Family Guy on Adult Swim they'll continue to keep airing them.

Syndicated episodes of Family Guy are a huge ratings cash cow for AS, they rank in about a million viewers...the highest of any show on Adult Swim.

it is a kids show, so how intricate do you expect the writing to be??...I have 2 nieces and a nephew, they like Wizards of Waverly Place, seen a couple episodes, seems ok to me for a kids show

It depends on how narrow the target is for the intended viewing audience for a certain show.

The Disney live-action shows are mostly about teenagers, but they are definitely not written for the average teenage audience. The simplistic plots, basic humor and overly-expressive acting are squarely aimed at elementary and middle-school kids, and they are pretty much they only ones who watch it.

However, some of Cartoon Network's animated programming aims at a larger target base that includes older viewers. For example, the imported Canadian cartoons like 6Teen, Total Drama Island and the new Stoked, contain some characters and dialog that are more along the lines of standard network sitcoms instead of kids' shows. Since these shows are cartoons and the main characters are teenagers, there is still interest from the middle-school-aged audience of course, but the humor and dialog are definitely more sophisticated and "adult" than what Disney Channel produces, so these CN shows attract an older viewing audience as well.

well Disney knows they are going to get the kids, so they cast out a net and if some adult viewers fall in there so be it...Cartoon Network doesn't have that luxury...the only things I watch on CN now are Venture Brothers, Metalocalypse, Batman: BATB, and Ben 10

I don't understand why CN is f***king all the fans like this. It isn't right.

You bring up an interesting situation there. Venture Brothers and Metalocalypse are both shown only during the Adult Swim block of programming of course, while Batman and Ben 10 are considered all-ages suitable.

Cartoon Network has gotten so used to sharply dividing their programming into what they consider "adult-oriented" or "kid-friendly" broadcasting blocks that they sometimes have problems with the stuff that falls in between.

For example, certain pre-existing episodes of 6Teen have yet to be shown on Cartoon Network, despite the fact that they're a couple years old. Most of these unaired episodes contain plot elements that aren't necessarily "kid friendly", but they're also not risque enough to end up on Adult Swim. Gags involving tampons getting stolen out of a girl's purse, a male character pretending to be gay to get a job at a women's lingerie store and an Assistant Manager's name tag that says "Ass Man" are all subjects that Cartoon Network apparently doesn't know how to deal with. So they just don't show those particular episodes.

Seems to me like all they would have to do is adjust the individual TV ratings for the episodes with more high-school oriented humor, but the network programmers at CN probably just don't want to have to deal with it.

June Bugs... I miss watching that for two days in the summer. "Network?" Just sounds horrible, but a friend and I were expecting this. We'd sit and complain about the live shows on a station called Cartoon Network. Nothing to watch on there now but adultswim if I'm not too tired.

Remember the mid-90s when they had the What a Cartoon! Show....those were aimed at everyone, not just kids, not just adults.

What A Cartoon! I think that's where Dexter and Cow and Chicken got its start as well as other CN originals.

Freakazoid! and Speed Racer on Cartoon Network, good times. :word:

anyone remember this, btw its one of the best intro ever imo
