Are there any cartoons (not based on superheros or comics)/animes that actually might be able to be translated into live action well?

Here are some of the top of my head

Zoids: New Century Zero.

It's an anime about a tournament of giant animal robots. I think that could definitely work. It wont be a deep film it just would be a bad ass blockbuster, but I think it could actually have a plot. I think the tone will be like Star Trek's, lots of humor, great action, but actaully have an interesting story and characters

Gundam Wing.

Its an anime with a main cast that are all different nationalities, which I think would be cool and its a huge actual characters and plot driven space epic. Even though it was primarily an action show, it had alot of deep themes such as loss of humanity/innocence and freedom. Also it has the best robot designs Ive seen

Samurai X (The OVAs)

If they were to do it they should make it indie because it seems that Hollywood has a problem casting asians in leads. Low budget samurai love story. Not much else to say.

Gargoyles

I mean so many people love the show. I think it could work really well in the right hands. And the Gargoyles dont even have to be CGI all the time they could be like Hellboy with makeup and prosthetics

So what do you think could work

Michael Bay's Pokemon

Ash Ketchum is a nomadic young recluse wandering the Kanto region and participating in underground Pokemon fights with his genetically altered Pikachu. While evading two mercenaries working for the Rocket Organization who will stop at nothing to retrieve his pet, he teams up a bikini-clad water-type trainer and a breeder with an insatiable lust for older women.

CloneHigh.jpg

A mockumentary in the style of "The Office" about a gated community where clones of historical figures have been raised for 16 years under the eyes of a shady government organization and are currently attending a high school run by a demented operative and his robotic manservant.

Cowboy Bebop is easily the first that comes to mind. It's probably the most live action transferable anime there is. Unfortunately I don't like the direction of having Keanu in it. He's just way too wooden. Spike had character to me. His sense of humor was dry, not dead like Keanu's.

Gungrave could really work too. God I love that show so much.

Baki the Grappler would be an amazing martial arts movie. It doesn't have to have a flashy CGI big budget. All it needs is some good choreography and direction. My concern would be that it would end up like the live action Fist of the North Star movie.:csad:

Gundam Wing would be so great, but I'd rather wait until after the Transformers craze to die down. Gundam Wing is not Transformers. You can't just make it some ridiculous "turn your brain off" movie. Like Blackman mentioned in the first post, it explored many themes about humanity. Hollywood is liable to make a Transformers clone with nothing but white stars in the mechs. That would rob the movie of it's international themes if it's white washed like that. The film needs to be about different parts of society, and their reactions to war.

Vampire Hunter D would be so excellent. D does some wicked things, but nothing that's impossible to pull off on film. The style could be a great thing to watch.

gundam wing would be amazing.

I actually would want a Gundam Wing movie in this Transformers craze because it proves that you can make a great giant robot movie without make it bats*** crazy and stupid

i would like to see Mazinger Z on the big screen, and im still waiting for Astroboy.

Cowboy Bebop, although I don't think Keanu is a good casting choice. Also, Ghost in the Shell.

How about Cardcaptor Sakura?
Do you guys think that's too much?..LOL

Do guys and gals really most of what you list will do good as live action? This like the 3rd thread about the subject and thos who start these trhreads do not really about the budget it takes to make these type of films and the studio that decides to do the films. Look at the past adaptions that failed: Dragonball: Evolution, Chun-Li, to name a few. There is a long list of anime adaptions that went straight to video as well cause I own most of them.

Crying Freeman: 2 versions were done
Fist of the North Star: Stared Gary Daniels and Chris Penn
Cutey Honey
Gundam - which G-saviour
Battle Royal
Flintstones
Rocky and Bullwinkle
Speed Racer
Inspector Gadget
Garfield
Casshern (robot fighter)

This is all can I think of at the moment for past movies. Do not forget that there some being done now like Blood: The last Vampire and The Last Airbender.

Evangelion

Absolutely.

If it ever does go back into production I really hope WETA (along with Peter Jacksons if he's available) decides to return and work on the films effects.

I doubt Peter Jackson will have time to be involved with it (and I'm not sure if he'd be interested), but Weta will probably handle the effects, Richard Taylor will likely still be a producer on it since last anyone heard, he said it's still his dream project (which he brought up himself in a completely unrelated interview). Hopefully the massive success of the Transformers films will leave studios open for different take on the whole "rock 'em sock 'em robots" craze.

Still got my fingers crossed.

Johnny Quest could be excellent if it was in the right hands. Don't put pop culture in it; make it timeless, like Raiders of the Lost Ark.
