Cartoons/Animes That Could Actually Be Successful in Live Action

Don't know know which American studio would want to adapt Gantz without toning it down by a substantial amount.

Great manga though. One my favorites.

I'm thinking Lionsgate...they love gore-porn.:o

I think an anime that could work well as an adaptation is Doraemon, which is easily one of the most popular anime/manga in history. It has a nice, simple storyline that could easily be adapted to suit most plots and open enough for sequels. It would firmly fall into the G-rated, comedy genre so I'm not sure how attractive it would be to the Hype's demographics.

That said, I think anyone familiar with the franchise would still be curious about it. And would probably burst out laughing if someone decided to make it darker and edgier. ;)

Another one I forgot about is Outlaw Star. I can't believe that slipped my mind. It would be pretty good to pull off, a little like Cowboy Bebop. I think that it could be like the Star Trek movie this year. Alot of action in space, except this time we have less characters to deal with.

The Pirates Of Darkwater.

This was a really cool cartoon that could be a movie easily sure not alot of episodes here but would make a good film.

The Legend Of Prince Valiant.

I watched this when i was young and totally forgot about until saw Prince Valiant was on dvd. This would be a great live action movie i think.

Outlaw Star.

This would make a great sci-fi movie and we need something new if ask me.

Dungeons and Dragons.

This was up there with he-man for me as a kid and feel D/D should have done a movie off this. Come on Venger a several headed dragon and dungeon master.

Witch Hunter Robin.

This was a great cartoon and would be an awesome live action movie.

Inuyasha.

Alot may disagree but in the right hands this could be done. Look The Last Airbender could open doorways saying this could be done if it is good. Dragonball Z shouldn't have been yes but Naruto and Inuyasha would be great live action films if done right.

Johnny Quest could be excellent if it was in the right hands. Don't put pop culture in it; make it timeless, like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Seconded x1000.

Zac Efron being Jonny makes me want to puke.

Any reason for the hate?

I watched "17 Again" to check out his acting since he's rumoured for the leading role in Death Note and quite honestly, being the 1st movie I've ever seen him in, he was pretty good.

I genuinely do not understand all the hate he's getting. Is it because he looks like the male version of Megan Fox?:o

Hopefully if Death Note gets a director like Fincher, it could very well be a good career move for Efron since he'll be playing against type.

I'll say it again.

A 100 % book-to-film translation of the AKIRA graphic novels. Hell the way everything is drawn makes you think you're looking at a storyboard

The reason for the hate is High School Musical. Most people have not seen these films, but hate them with a passion for no reason other than they are popular with an audience that they are not part of. It's like how I hate Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, etc without having ever seen them. The only difference is, I don't hate all those involved with the film and hold it against them for the rest of their careers.

Trigun is the one I want to see the most, hopefully they'd go with a different ending for Wolfwood though. :o

What about Record of Lodoss War? That seems like it could be a big time epic movie like the Lord of the Rings movies.

I forgot some...

Mighty Orbots

Dungeons & Dragons

Gargoyles

Johnny Quest

Hero High

Jackie Chan Adventures

Wolf's Rain
The Venture Brothers (only if McCulloch and Doc Hammer work on it)

Same here, I think it could be transitioned into Live Action easily enough without destroying what made it so awesome. I need to pull out my Trigun set, I wanna watch it.

Johnny Quest is a good one, I think. Kind of surprised they haven't jumped on that in some capacity yet, actually. If done correctly, it could be pretty successful.

Samurai Jack Anyone?

I think a few people have already suggested Samurai Jack. I'm familiar with the show, but I'm afraid I never watched it. Here's another one . . . Afro Samurai, starring Samuel L. Jackson.
